The morning air was crisp, carrying the scent of fresh spices and warm food as the shop prepared to open its doors for the very first time. Excitement buzzed in the air, a mixture of nervous energy and hope. Everyone had come together to ensure that this day would be a success.
Jay, Chahat, Tiya, and even Prachi had arrived early to help with the final preparations. Ramprasad Uncle, known for his excellent tea and coffee-making skills, had set up his station, ensuring that every cup he served would have just the right blend of warmth and flavor. In one corner, a cook was carefully steaming soft Mallige Idlis, the fluffy texture and delicate aroma filling the space. Veer had taken charge of the sandwich counter, meticulously grilling bread, melting cheese to perfection, and layering fresh vegetables with care.
As the clock struck opening time, the first customers walked in, their expressions curious yet eager. The comforting aroma of masala chai, the sizzling of garlic toast, and the gentle clatter of plates and cups created a welcoming atmosphere.
"Two cups of ginger lemon honey tea and a plate of soft idlis with coconut chutney, please," an elderly couple ordered, settling into a cozy corner.
Not long after, a group of college students stepped in, scanning the menu with excitement.
"Can we get three masala chais, one plate of grilled cheese sandwiches, and some hot Maggie noodles?" one of them asked, rubbing their hands together to fight off the cold.
Jay and Chahat quickly handed the plates to the serving counter, where the fresh food was swiftly delivered. Tiya moved efficiently, making sure every order was placed in the right hands. Meanwhile, Prachi handled the cash counter, smoothly collecting payments while keeping an eye on the flow of orders.
By mid-morning, the shop was bustling. Customers came and went, some enjoying a leisurely meal, while others grabbed a quick bite before heading off to work or college. A traveler who had stopped by on his way further up the hills ordered a cup of hot chocolate and a plate of steamed sprouts with light seasoning, relishing the warmth in the chilly weather.
Veer, focused on his sandwich counter, heard a new order.
"One veg club sandwich and a bun maska with tea," someone called out, their voice blending with the hum of conversations around them.
The day continued at a steady pace, with people appreciating the simple yet comforting menu. The pahadi momos and bread pakoras quickly became a favorite among the younger crowd, while the older customers kept returning for refills of ginger tea and soft idlis.
As the evening approached, the team decided to close the shop by 7 PM. It had been a fulfilling day—exhausting, yet rewarding. There was still much to improve, but the joy on the customers' faces and the warmth in their appreciation made it all worthwhile.

Before leaving for the day, Chahat turned to Uncle and Veer and shared an update.
"From tomorrow, one more helper will be joining It'll make things easier."
Uncle and Veer nodded in acknowledgment. With only them the cook, and another helper managing the shop on a regular basis, an extra pair of hands would surely be helpful. As they had their college commitments, but they had assured him that they would come to help whenever they were free.
Everyone nodded in agreement, already looking forward to another busy yet satisfying day. With hopeful hearts and tired smiles, they locked up the shop.
