Chapter 2 - Burning Desire

Midoriya Izuku sits on his bed, his whole body aching terribly. Though the pain can't dim his excitement, he has a legitimate Pro Hero training him, who believes that he, useless Deku, can become a Hero despite being Quirkless.

He looks over his training regime, The Aim to Dream; Hero Plan. It's super comprehensive and just like Toshinori said it seemed hard but reasonable to accomplish in the time frame he was given.

…but if Izuku wanted to be a Hero, the first Quirkless Pro Hero, then he needed to train twice, no thrice as hard as anyone else.

Right?

Standing up, he hobbles over to his computer and powers it on before he begins researching. He needs to maximize his training, while he had plenty of time before he was old enough to join a Hero Academy he couldn't become complacent. Izuku's been given a chance and he needs to take full advantage.

Izuku's sure if he could clean the beach sooner than the eighteen month deadline then Toshinori would take an even greater interest in him, teaching him even more about Heroics.

He spent hours upon hours researching exercises, muscle growth and recovery, development for children his age, and so much more. When the next day came a revised version of the Aim to Dream regime was in his hands.

Before it had three categories; Aerobic exercises, trash cleaning which he categorized as strength training, and Basic physical fitness. Not including his sleep schedule or meal prep.

Now it has seven.

Mobility training, flexibility training, balance training, agility training, aerobic training, trash cleaning which again was strength training, and finally calisthenics.

While many of them overlapped, each category was meant to improve aspects of his body to create a whole much greater than its parts.

It was perfect, meant to drive him beyond all his limits, using every second of the day to improve.

That included his sleep.

With his new regime Izuku needed more hours in the day which is where the dymaxion sleep schedule came in; he would take a thirty minute nap every six hours totalling two hours of sleep a day. While the reduction of sleep could cause some health problems and more importantly stall recovery time, there were methods to lower those chances and even increase the rate of recuperation.

It would be Hell but Toshinori believed in him and no way would he let the man down.

Not now.

Like most kids of Izuku's age he received a weekly allowance. It wasn't anything special but he hardly ever used any of it as the only things he ever wanted was All Might related merchandise and his mother never failed to buy them for him.

So he saved up quite a bit.

He thought he would never get a chance to use any of it but well–

"AGhhh!~" Izuku's scream turns into a moan of relief as he submerges himself in his bathtub filled with ice, empty bags littering the floor.

A week has passed since he started training, each day bringing more pain and misery than the last. He felt his whole body beg him to stop putting it through the torture that was exercising and it was only thanks to his desire to improve as fast as humanly possible that kept him on his path.

He could barely walk, barely move, struggling to even stay awake. Izuku constantly caught himself dozing off.

School certainly didn't help with teachers that ignored him and students who took every opportunity to make him feel as small as possible; either mentally or physically.

Though he found himself caring less and less about their antics, either because he was dead tired all the time or because he finally found a person that believed in him.

After a couple minutes he stands up from his ice bath and steps out, he removes his soaking clothes before grabbing a towel. Drying himself off quickly, he steps out of the bathroom and enters his room closing the door behind him.

Izuku hurriedly puts on a brown long sleeve thermal shirt, a pair of yellow sweats, and gray wool socks he usually only wore during December.

Before leaving his room he grabs his phone from his bed and the ninth version of his Hero Analysis for the Future notebook. He then heads towards the kitchen, throwing his journal on the table before he starts brewing himself a cup of black tea to warm himself up further.

As the kettle boils, Izuku sits down and takes his phone out of his pocket. The boy hums as he searches through Hero news sites where you can stay up to date with Pro's.

He of course starts in Japan watching clips of Hero fights, he recognizes a few and makes quick notes on anything he finds to update past entries at a later date but finds a couple he didn't.

After that, he goes on a witch hunt on everything he could find about them, analyzing their Quirks, fighting styles, Hero persona, support items, and a few other things.

After a while he decides to switch gears and looks into American Hero sites, first searching for anything on Stars and Stripes; All Might's second sidekick after David Shield and America's Number One Hero, the world's strongest women.

She was an amazing Hero, one of the best with a Quirk that seemed to be made for Heroics.

It literally allowed her to bend reality to her will with a simple touch and command. A broken Quirk if he ever heard one.

"Weeeee!"

Izuku looks away from the screen and towards the kettle, "Oh!" Getting up, he begins making his tea.

After he pours himself a cup he sits down searching for America's Number Two Hero; Homelander.

"Good, Young Midoriya!" Yagi Toshinori pumps his fist as Izuku carries a car tire above his head, the boy climbs up the stairs before jogging to the end of the beach where a twenty yard dumpster is placed.

The boy chucks the tire in easily and goes back to work.

"You're making great time, Midoriya!" The man encourages, "Two months in and I'm seeing massive improvements."

Izuku flashes a smile and pushes himself harder.

Toshinori's eyes follow the boy as he runs up the stairs with several rusted rodes under his arm, as he leaves his sight the smile slips off his face.

The boy was making amazing progress, he was fitter, faster. The beach was getting cleaner at a pace well beyond his expectations with about a fifth being cleared out already.

At first he just assumed he underestimated how fit the boy actually was but… no. Izuku was increasing his workload and by a lot if he had to guess.

Toshinori kept an eye out for severe exhaustion, mood swings, flashes of pain, loss of weight, a sickly complexion but nothing.

The only sign that he seemed to not be getting much sleep is the light eyebags but besides that… he was the picture of health.

The man scratches his sharp chin in thought and wonders how he could bring it up without discouraging the boy. He took any criticism as an attack of character, feeling as if he failed in an unforgivable way. Though it didn't take the child long to gather himself and put in twice the amount of work to correct the mistake.

He sees Izuku running back into view and puts a smile back on. Looking at his watch he saw their time together was coming to an end.

Three hours and the boy only took three ten minute breaks. Before Izuku could pick up anything else, Toshinori called him over.

"My boy, why don't you take another break?"

Izuku pauses and turns to him, "I can keep going, Yagi-Sensei!" He smiles brightly before returning to his task.

Toshinori presses his lips together before opening his mouth again, "I have no doubt about it, Midoriya… to be honest I'm getting a little bored and would like to starve it off." He chuckles embarrassingly.

Izuku's eyes widen and he rushes over, "Yeah, I would love to talk with you Toshinori-Sensei!"

The man laughs and pats his protégé's head which gets a bright blush from him, "Thank you." He sits down and pats beside him.

The boy follows the silent command.

"So, you've been following the regime I gave you right?"

Guilt flashes on Izuku's face, very briefly and Toshinori has his fears confirmed.

"Ye..yeah!" He looks away and scratches the back of his head, "I me.. mean you… you said it yourself right? I've been improving and… and… I'm doing good right?" Fear clouds his face and panic was clear in his voice. "Right?!"

The semi retired Pro waves his hands frantically, "Yes! Yes! Splendidly, you've exceeded all of my expectations for you."

Relief washes over the Quirkless boy, he clutches his chest, "Good, good."

Toshinori rubs the other's back, "I'm sorry for worrying you."

Izuku waves his own hands, his cheeks heating up, "It's fine! Ioverreactedsorry." He mumbles.

The man huffs, "Anyway. I…" He struggles to find something to talk about now that his light provocation backfired so spectacularly. "Do… you have any questions for me?"

The boy lights up and stands up rushing to his backpack, he takes out a notebook and thumps back down, "You Quirk, its Muscle Enhancer isn't it?"

Toshinori raises a brow and nods.

"Is it an Emitter, Transformation, or a Mutation? Does it just affect your skeletal muscles or does it also affect smooth and cardiac muscles? What about the nerves in the muscles?"

The sickly man opens and closes his mouth several times, "I… um it's a Mutation and affects all my muscle types, including the nerves in them, I think?"

Izuku nods and writes it down.

"Are your muscles denser? If so, by how much? Does it make you heavier? If so, by how much? Are you in any way more limited because of your Quirk, like a reduction in mobility?"

"Mmm, yes… My muscles are denser, about eight times denser than an ordinary person, so that does make me heavier than I look. I'm over two hundred pounds, my mobility has in no way been impaired."

Izuku gives an affirmative sound, "Do you have joint pain? An increased metabolism? Were your muscles always eight times denser or did they become denser through training? Do you have to maintain your strength or does it remain static?"

Toshinori hums, "No, I don't have any joint pain, I do have to consume more calories to maintain my health, and my muscles have gotten denser through training and require consistent training to maintain."

The amature analysis nods rapidly, his pencil practically a blur.

The man leans to the side and reads Izuku's work.

Mr. Incredible

His Quirk; Muscle Enhancer is a Mutation type power, enhancing his muscular system. All muscle types are improved along with the nerve types that interact with those muscles. It most likely increases his strength, speed, and durability.

Mr. Incredible's muscles most likely store oxygen much more efficiently allowing for greater tissue health, better blood circulation, and energy production, allowing him to work harder for longer and require less rest for recovery. It most likely takes a great deal of physical activity to build any type of muscle which explains his skeletal appearance though its obvious not only that, he most likely experience some kind of injury and if I had to guess around his stomach since he constantly touches his side almost protectively, his liver may also be injured as black sclera are a byproduct of severe liver damage, his lungs may also be damaged as his constantly coughs out blood. If his stomach, liver, and lungs are injured he's most likely not getting the nutrients or oxygen needed to maintain a healthy physique. Any nutrients he is getting is most likely not being stored or metabolized properly especially if he maintains a Pro Hero lifestyle.

Supplements may be needed to encourage muscle health such as; calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium. An increase in electrolyte and glucose intake may also be needed. Increasing electrolytes is pretty easy, even with a stomach injury, glucose is a bit harder. Easily digestible ways to increase glucose are glucose gels, tablets, a tablespoon of sugar, honey, or corn syrup.

Since all muscles are enhanced that includes the muscles around his lungs such as the diaphragm, intercostal, and abdominal. Well the lungs themselves are damaged the muscles around the area are probably not, breathing exercises that focus on these muscles may increase oxygen intake.

Using an elevation mask could also help train his lungs though depending on the level of damage that could be ill advised.

Mr. Incredible has stated his muscles are eight times denser than a normal humans which means he should be eight times stronger, faster and more durable than an ordinary man which puts his strength at four to eight ton range his speed at two-hundred and twenty-four to three-hundred and twenty miles, and his durability at forty to seventy-two G-Force.

Within these parameters Mr. Incredible could easily perform many impressive feats; to run vertically up surfaces you need to reach thirty miles per hour which would increase his mobility in terrain areas like Musutafu. Though he would need to maintain such speed, sudden decrease in velocity can cause him to lose friction and fall, too large of an increase and the structure may break under him.

Acquiring a speedometer would help Mr. Incredible keep track of his speed.

Tornado creation could also become a viable tool in his arsenal, the average speed of a tornado is ten to twenty miles, speeds easily achievable for Mr. Incredible. Such a skill could be used in a variety of ways like disorienting criminals such as running around them and creating a tornado that knocks them around before it disapitates. It could also be used to starve fire by quickly moving around a building on fire and snuffing out the heat.

The more Toshinori read the more awe filled him up. He figured out the location of his injury, the extent of it, possible ways to combat it and new ways to express the dredges of his weakened power in his emaciated form that he never even thought of.

If he wasn't sure about the boy before, he is now.

He continues to watch as he writes more and more ideas on his 'Quirk' before he begins drawing him.

It was a flattering drawing, making him look much more heroic than he knew he actually looked like.

Toshinori needed to nurture his analysis, keep his inquisitive mind sharp. It would be invaluable in the field.

"Midoriya–" Before he could continue the boy let out a loud eep and cowered, covering his notebook with his body, almost protectively.

The man almost let out a growl of anger, not at the boy but whoever instilled such a response in him.

The ash blonde boy flashes in his mind, he wonders if he could get a real name from his protégé so he could talk with his parents but he doubts it. He tried already after all.

All he could do was show young Izuku he could count on him.

"Your analysis is re–"

"I know! I know, it's really creepy, I'm sorry." He cries out, "I'll stop but pl–"

This time Toshinori interrupts him, "No." He says sternly, freezing the boy. "It's really good, you got everything pretty much right and your ideas on moves are completely viable for me. This is exactly the kinda thinking a Hero needs, analyzing an opponent and figuring out their weaknesses along with their possible strengths. We need to nurture this." He says plainly.

Izuku's head snaps up to him, his eyes impossibly wide and wet, "Re..really?"

He nods seriously, "I think we need to add another facute of your training." He starts and the boy nods slowly. "I think… yes… I think every week I'll assign you a villain to analyze, a rogue villain so you can't just look them up, and you will turn in a report on them to me the following week. It will allow you to sharpen your skills with far less information than you would normally have, sounds good?"

"So like… like, I would be given real case files on them?" Izuku asks, excitement coating his tone.

"Hm." Toshinori nods with some amusement, glad to see him act like a real child.

"So I… I would be helping, then? Like a real Hero?!" Awe explodes from the child, getting a laugh from the other.

"Yes, I suppose so, though you're already helping people by cleaning this beach, just because it's not as glamorous doesn't mean it's not just as important. Please remember that." Toshinori ruffles the boy's head.

"Right!" He nods seriously only to suddenly become subdued, "Do you really think… really think that my analysis is that good?"

"Yes." The sickly Hero nods seriously, "I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it, my boy." He sets a palm on his head, ruffling his hair for the third time. "I wish I had such a skill, it would make my job much easier."

Izuku giggles a little deliriously before he bites his lip, "Can… can I ask… um… ho- nevermind!" He shakes his head. "It's none of my business!" He stands up quickly but before he can get far a firm hand on his wrist stops him.

"I think I know what you were going to ask." Toshinori speaks softly. He lets the boy's wrist go and grabs the helm of the overly large shirt which hangs off him almost like a dress and raises it up.

The boy drops his notebook and covers his mouth.

Covering the man's left side is a hideous purple scar. The skin around his side was puckered inward and seemed to reverberate out with long deep gashes.

"Ho..how?"

Toshinori sighs and drops his shirt, "A villian. He was… God Midoriya, he was like the devil given human form. He was powerful, so powerful I can't even describe it, whatever I say won't do it justice." He stares at the boy with hard eyes. "We fought and I put up one Hell of a fight but… at the last stretch, I grew overconfident, let my guard down and he blew a hole through me."

Izuku blinks rapidly and grabs his stomach, almost trying to reassure himself he's still whole.

"This job Izuku, it's dangerous. More dangerous than anyone gives it credit for, I used to be so much stronger, like you wouldn't believe or actually-" Toshinori pauses for a moment, thinking, "In my prime my muscles were about twenty four times denser than a regular man's."

The boy's breath hitches, his mind immediately doing the calculations.

"I…" He struggles to find the words, "I try to do good and this," A hand gestures to all him. "Is my reward but the thing is if I could do it all over again, if I could start over I wouldn't change a thing. I would still become a Hero, I would still face that 'monster' and live with my wrecked body because I love what I do."

"Yagi-Sensei…" Izuku mutters.

The All Might look a like presses his lips together and a hint of guilt enters his eyes, "I have to ask you Midori–"

"You can call me Izuku." He interrupts before he clicks his mouth shut embarrassingly.

The man laughs airly, "I have to ask you Izuku, knowing what you know now, do you still want to be a He–"

"Yes!" Izuku resolutely answers, fire burning in his eyes, "I know, 'I know' its going to be hard, harder than anything I will ever do, downright impossible but I want to be a Pro Hero! I want to save people, as many as I can, as many as I can reach my hands out to! And I know I probably won't live long because of it but… but…" He clenches his chest, right where his heart is. "But I want to follow my dreams! I want to serve my country like you, like All Might, like all Pro Heroes. They're laying down their lives and I have no right to do any less!"

Toshinori stares and smiles, he stands up and walks over, slowly he brings his arms around the boy and hugs him, "I'm so glad I met you, Izuku. So, so glad."

Izuku's hands lay limply at his side but just as the man pulls away he closes his arms around him.

"You're going to be great my boy, the greatest." He mummers softly, "By the way, please call me Toshinori."
