Everred had served the Gates family as their butler for over a million years; he had watched many members of the Gates family grow up, including Fath's father and Fath himself. He held a special affection for the Fath family.
He still vividly remembered, more than 1.8 million years ago, a youth around the same age as Fath had bought him from his slavemaster and told him, "From today onward, you'll follow me. Cultivate well, and when your strength is formidable enough that you won't be caught by those slave traders again, you are free to leave."
But he never left. Even hundreds of years later, when that young master's life span was exhausted and he died, he did not leave but continued to protect generation after generation of that young master's descendants.
Until one day, he finally made up his mind that he would not leave until after becoming a True God.
