The flight back down to Tertium had to be done a bit more circumspectly in order to avoid the traitors blasting us to bits with the captured very potent defenses the Hive City had at its disposal.
And I didn't waste time as even on our way down back to the Hive City I was hard at work as I worked on the information I had on the Guardsman and Enforcers I was given command of. First was the actual numbers, in the grand scheme of things. three hundred soldiers wasn't shit compared to the untold literal millions of traitors living in the Hive City of Tertium which had a multi-billion population.
But still to myself, three hundred soldiers was a good deal of people and I was going to make the best use of them as I could... First, to start things off, I was going to have them help me secure another large work area in Lower Hive's geothermal plant so I had more power at my disposal, then I would work to enhance every single one of the Guardsmen with the Super Soldier Serum.
Then after they have been enhanced it would be time to arm them. And for arming hundreds of people I knew that Fallouts Power Armor would be the best thing for me to use along with some kinetic energy shields to block lasers and slug throwers.
"Adelieth, what is the likelihood of more Sister's of Battle entering my band?" I asked not looking up from my datapad.
And a moment later I heard Adeleith reply bluntly. "I was part of a contingent that followed Inquisitor Grendyl... That contingent only has a dozen survivors from our time trying to retake Tertium."
'Well that sucks.' I thought before I looked up and looked at that ugly ass chain sword and grimaced. "Why... I said the chain sword is inefficient and prone to getting caught on armor and the filth of the heretic."
Adelieth actually smiled as she said. "The roar of the holy chain sword will drown out the screams of the heretic and litanies of evil Jake."
My lips twitched at that and I just shook my head in dismay. Knowing the sister couldn't be dissuaded I shut up and opened up my datapad to read up on the information on the humans in my squadron.
'So three hundred guardsmen/surviving enforcers and within the three hundred is thirty Ogryns of various genders and... Yeah Grendyl definitely is fucking with me.' I thought as at the very end of the list of personnel was a fucking Felinid woman.
A Felinid was a brand of abhuman that had been genetically modified to live on a fucking stupidly hostile planet millennia ago and had evolved to take on cat-like features including being covered in fur, and having a tail/cat ears. All for helping to survive the almost constantly dark death world the race originated from.
'If I clear out the genetic fuckery of the Felinid would that leave her as a proper catgirl? Or would she revert to either a jacked scary as fuck cat or a pure human?' I thought before shaking the thought away as from the comms system the pilot spoke up. "Touch down in a couple of minutes. Prepare yourself."
Barghest's knee started bouncing anxiously and I could see the Custodian look at that bouncing knee and back up to Barghest's face before he looked away. "Alright, so the first thing we are going to do is get clear of our landing site and then we will push as quick as we can to this geothermal power vent. From there we can use the large storage area's in the area as our operating base." I spoke and even as I said that, I used my data slate to send said message to the squad leaders of the soldiers.
Adelith and Barghest didn't have anything to say in denial of my plans while the Custodian... He didn't say anything at all unless he wanted to, so I didn't seek out his opinion. As I knew his job was to simply to protect me and let me do what I wanted to naturally do which would supposedly fall into the Emperor's designs.
'I really fucking need to make some anti-scrying wards or something as well.' I thought with a grimace but then with a loud thudding noise the back of the ship unsealed itself and as our ship swung around for a quick hard landing we were already climbing out as the ships literally couldn't be sitting there for minutes at a time.
"Grab the supplies and move people!" I roared out as other ships landed in quick succession and in turn, the soldiers began carrying or dragging out crates of food, I saw trio of Ogryns being the bestest of boys as they were using oversized dolly's to wheel huge boxes down the ramps and onto the ground
With the men and supplies taken off the ships in great time, within not even three minutes of landing the ships had taken off back towards orbits with their engines screaming with the effort as they punched it to avoid spears of red light that were the anti-air defenses that the traitors had captured.
Taking a breath I ordered everyone to fall in and using the maps of the area I had I took our precession through more tight-knit corridors so that even if we got pincered with Barghest in the back of the procession the bulk of my soldiers would be fine but thankfully our prior the trip itself to the Geothermal plant was mostly quiet besides the odd Poxwalker zombie we ran into that was quickly put down by my Suros.
Once we reached said main facility I looked to the Custodes beside me as I could feel... Something off in the area. "I can feel evil within that power plant, probably a Deamonhost or a Chaos Spawn."
The Custodes looked at me for a moment and then his comms system came to life as his voice stated bluntly. "Deamonhost then. The area is too silent, if there was a mad chaos spawn there would be more heretics in the area... But even the heretics are well aware that staying anywhere near a pysker who had a daemon forced into their body is a terrible death sentence."
The surroundings were almost silent except for but the howling of the Hive's damp air refiners pumping in the air for people to survive in the area. The normal soldiers were left behind as the four of us in Adelith, Barghest, the Custodian and myself made our way into the Geothermal Power facility.
But as we walked into the core area that was dead to the world in silence which was not the norm at all as even the machine spirits of the great electric engines were deadly silent in fear of the Deamon in the area. We heard it.
Mad whispers clawing at our ears with despair and hate trying to worm their way into our mind. The sound of the Deamonhosts voice was twisted as it argued with the deamon within itself as it floated in the air glowing with otherworldly glowing energy while its form was actually being strangled as it hung in the air by barbed wire with its blood leaving a glowing green pool beneath its form.
What was once a human pysker was twisted into a malformed deamonhost with its limbs elongated longer than usual. Parts of its body was torn off and glowing with that otherworldy glowing green light as the deamon's energies leaked from the shell of the wounded pysker's body.
'What a foul creature.' I thought with a grimace as the mad pysker gibbered about not doing it. Not eating humans, not pouring filth into the water supply, refusing to give its body away to the demon completely.
While still pleading for mercy from the daemon bound inside its body, begging for power to take revenge, and of course to become powerful themselves.
As the Deamonhost floating form slowly spun around I got to look at its head and I shut down any thought of trying to purge the unclean with my Light as I saw that its head already was destroyed from probably slamming its head into walls, the floor or anything else as it was leaking so much daemon infused blood.
But more than that was the set of large horns on its head along with the insignia of Nurgle in a triangle with each point being a circle was carved into its forehead that was radiated a fell light that tinged agaisnt my Light.
There was no redemption for this Deamonhost, it was a mad pysker who needed to be put down for who knows what heretical secrets and horrible things the deamon had tormented the Pysker with. And the Deamon itself needed to be purged as well!
Calling upon my inner light I infused it within myself and with purpose and in my steps I walked towards the Deamonhost and as it spun around with its spike and chain-covered back pointed at me I pulled at my righteous fury at the monster before me.
A loud clanging noise rang out. As from my hand, I called upon my inner Light in a large hammer that formed in my hand as though made out of golden flames that burned with my righteous fury for the disgusting monster formed before me.
The Deamonhost feeling the flames behind screamed with my Crisis Suit shuddering before its internal systems locked down the signal interference with a small signal saying that such effects would be reduced in the future.
The pysker inside the Deamonhost mentally collapsed feeling the flames approaching its form allowing the daemon to shatter the chains and barbed wire holding its form together and as those long limbs reached for me. I greeted the demon with an exploding hammer to the face that I threw from my hands!
And feeling my inner light retreating as the abrupt use of the Hammer of Sol took a good deal of energy out of myself I was about to take out my energy sword as plasma fire from both Barghest and Adelith shot from over my shoulders into the Deamonhost.
But before I could re-engage the monster a golden blur shot in from the side and as the Deamonhost teleported right in front of me and was about to attack me with its huge clawed hands the golden blur grabbed the deamon on the head as it was dashing forward past me and I could hear his armor grind against the ground as the Custodes spun and did a move that slammed the Deamon into the ground while still being moved at a speed which dragged the daemons head against the ground by a good dozen meters.
The Custode's barely touched the ground before he shot up into the air with his Guardian Spear almost seemingly teleporting into his hands with how smoothly he took it off his back and with a series of popping noises the bolter like gun end on his spear shot blessed explosive rounds that pierced into the deamon's flesh before exploding making each bullet wound wider than my armored fist.
Even as I watched that, I wasn't standing there idly as the deamon even while being blasted tried again to slash the Custodian and then as I got closer with my energy sword it whipped around to swipe at me but I didn't react. Because just on my side came a thick shield made out of Vibranium and inlaid with the Emperor's holy sigils that rebounded the deamons claws as Barghest protected me as any good Ogryn would.
My energy sword slammed home into the demon's chest with my face a snarl as my form burned with golden flames as I burned the demon from the inside. I was a torch of seemingly holy flames that burned the dark whispers and cursed blood beneath my feet away.
And as both hands of the demon came together to slap my head between their clawed hands I just smiled through gritted teeth as that annoying ass roar of a chain sword cut the deamon host's head off as Barghest grabbed me by my armor and pulled me behind her shield as those clawed hands slammed into her shield again.
"Your flames... They are like his, but they do not have his power and age." The Custodian noted as he stomped the head of the demon into paste beneath his armored boot.
To his words, I took off my helmet so I could blow some blood out of my nose as my overuse of Sol flames had caused my body temperature to get too high along with bursting some blood vessels. So with my voice thick with mucas tinged with blood, I answered frankly. "Not without cost."
The Custodian was silent for a moment before he turned towards where we had left the soldiers behind in the previous room with several of them having come around the corner to watch the battle. And then the Custodian said bluntly. "They won't know that. And in seeing the Emperor's flame of righteous fury with their Anathama properties that can permanently end the deamon... Even the neverborn and their mortal ilk won't be able to tell the difference."
Adelith took upon the duty of consecration in burning away the sigils of heresy and destroying the Deamonhost's body remaining bodily mass within holy flames.
"Alright, Adelith, while you and the majority of the soldiers set up a FOB here, I will take a detachment to my old safehouse to collect my tech." I spoke.
The Sister of Battle frowned hearing my words and then said bluntly. "I refuse. The Emperor's-"
I cut her off as I tilted my head backwards to the golden warrior standing behind me. "The Emperor has already sent a guardian here to protect me. I need you here to keep the soldiers in order and busy fortifying the area. Also, secure a site where I can begin fabricating more arms and armor."
She nodded with that same frown but I didn't budge on that. So with that, I looked to Barghest and smiled saying. "Alright Barghest, let's go home and collect all my printers so the little uns here won't be so squishy and useless."
And Barghest gave a firm nod of agreement as she looked at her fellow Ogryns and humans with an aspiring eye before she said bluntly as she followed me. "They are lesser... Is this what the Astartes feel like boss?"
I could feel a hint of amusement at the thought of a proud Astartes hearing Barghest equate herself to them... Most would be beyond pissed at her for that. But I doubted that the best Astartes in the Salamanders would be angry. Either way, her words were actually correct.
In using the Super Soldier Serum from the Marvel universe, Barghest had all the worst parts of her Ogryn DNA removed while leaving her with the best parts. Her mind was as sharp as a genius human even if she didn't have the knowledge and wisdom to take advantage of her mind. And her body... Even with my Guardian enhancement atop my own Super Soldier enhancement.
She was still physically stronger than me owing to the fact that she was literally nine feet fucking tall and that mass in genetic perfection meant something indeed.
So in comparing a base guardsman to Barghest? Yeah, there's not much difference between comparing a base guardsman and an Astartes.
I gave Barghest a pat on the arm as I smiled wryly and said. "Yeah kinda... That and how long they live and the monsters they fight is why Astartes are so distant with normal humans."
I could feel Barghest's frown from under her helmet as her voice came out tinged with honest sadness. "Thats kinda sad boss..."
And that was the reality of Warhammer 40k. Nothing was supposed to have a happy ending as the god of fate was a fucking demon god and actively worked to piss in everyone's cheerios.
On the bright side, this world was being attacked by Nurgle which meant that via my genetic enhancements his base poxes and more insidious corruption could be dealt with. Compared to Tzeentch or Slaanesh being the ones on this world. If those two were here instead this world would be far more difficult for me to handle.
Our trip through the paths, roads, and hallways of the hive city back to our previous hab center wasn't an issue... As a Guardian in myself, a Custode's and a hulk-sized Ogryn made short work of the small crowds of Poxwalkers we came across along.
We otherwise didn't run into any Chaos Spawn, traitor guardsmen, or otherwise run into any other Nurgle entity.
Once we got back to our hab block and I disabled the traps so we could get in and begin loading the three dozen large printers up into a large flatbed that Barghest would pull. I decided to ask the Custodes for advice... As obviously he was millennia old and had maybe even fought during the fucking Horus Heresy for all I knew.
"Do you have any advice to go after the root cause of the heresy on this planet? Any tactical movements I should make to go after the leader of the Rot?" I asked frankly.
The Custode's ruby red gem-like eyes in his helmet met mine and for a long moment there was silence before the Custodes answered bluntly. "No. I have no advice. My shield company is only here to protect you Jake Bariss, not to guide or change the path you walk."
'Reee! Why do I need to make all the decisions!?' I thought with annoyance as I held in an explosive sigh at how fucking unhelpful everything was that I wasn't dealing with on my own.
"Alright, we got everything loaded up and we can remake the Super Soldier Processor back at the Geothermal plant. Let's get moving back to base." I announced as I rigged up some plasma grenades and other explosives to go off in a good five minutes.
But as I turned around I gave a small smile seeing Barghest grabbing the padded bedding I made for her and carefully tucking it along with her favorite blanket around the printers to make sure the printers didn't jostle around as much.
From there we backtracked our way back to the Geothermal plant with a dull rumbling slowing our steps slightly as my explosives wiped away all signs of our previous habitation.
And with our previous slaughter of the Poxwalkers, we didn't have the bad luck of running into more beyond a couple wandering small groups and a small squad of ten traitor Guardsmen that got mulched by energy sword and the Custodes spear before they could call for reinforcements.
So after the two hour something long trip back and forth as we reached the Geothermal plant I noticed that the entryways were already blocked off with metal plates welded over many entryways and Adelith had left only a single main entryway that was a killing zone with several Las turrets and even some smaller canons facing the long hallway leading into the main Geothermal Plan's entryway.
"The Commissar is back!" Guardsmen yelled who was on duty as we approached with Barghest and myself pulling along the cart carrying the printers.
The fortifications were moved aside allowing us to enter with a couple Ogryns in Guardsmen like flak armor coming over to help Barghest pull the heavy cart up the slopped incline leading into the Geothermal plant and seeing the three Ogryns pulling the cart up the metal and rockcrete ramp I wondered. 'How many horsepower is an Ogryn?'
But I shook the idle thought as I yelled at Barghest. "Barghest stay with the printers and don't let anyone mess with them. I am going to check with Adelith to see where she set aside an area."
Barghest snapped out a salute as I walked away with more than one Guardsmen looking shocked at the female 'Astartes' who loudly said happily. "Aye aye boss I will stay with these Ogryns and no one will touch your printers."

Considering that,Emprah would keep him alive...til he sacrifice him for his own goals.

An Ogryn spoke to Barghest as she stood protectively next bosses printers.
Barghest nodded and then took off her helmet with her fellow Ogryns looking at her in some suprise as she spoke clearly. "Yes, my boss has been good to me. He makes sure my belly is nice and warm when I go to sleep and the shredder and armor he made is just..."
She shifted and showed off her thick and strong power armor that had active shielding along with her fold-out Vibranium Shield that hung from her arm along with the plasma shotgun and gravity hammer that was on her back.
There was four Ogryns that she gathered up to protect bosses printers and they all rightfully looked filled with awe at the shiny but strong-looking weapons and armor she was wearing. "Dos you fink that the Commiesar will make us some better shredders and boom booms as well boss?" One of the four asked Barghest.
And Barghest smiled beautifully with her announcing firmly. "Aye of course! My boss wants the best for all his friends and subordinates. Especially with how the Emperor speaks to him and tells him how to build stuff like this!"
An Ogryn inhaled sharply and looked at her in wonder saying quickly in its sloppy voice that was filled with too much excitement. "He speaks with da Empawor!? Wowsa... I can't believes it. Is dat why the scary quisator sent us to help him krump the mean stinky boys down here?"
Without any hesitation Barghest nodded firmly with her saying strongly. "Yes! The emperor even sent his Custodes in that gold guy who will be protecting the boss. That Custodes even protects the emperor and the fact that the Emperor sent him to Boss means that he is the real deal!"
All four Ogryns and some people who heard Barghest's words lookened enlightened at the truth that Barghest was speaking.
But then a guardsmen walked up with a frown across his face as he came up to Barghest and said bluntly. "And what the fuck are ye? You ain't a space marine as they ain't got any tits."
Barghest tilted her head to the side in confusion at the hostile tone in the human guardsmen's voice and answered frankly. "I am not an Astartes? I was an Ogryn and Boss made me better with the Emperor's guidance."
There was a moment as the guardsmen stared at her and then his scarred face twisted in disgust and spat out. "Peh! An abhuman thinking they get to bear's the emperor's blessing? Its here-"
A loud grinding crunch rang out as one of the Ogryns reached over and grabbed the Guardsmen by the head in its large strong hands and the flak armor helmet groaned as his powerful hand squeezed the helmet with the Ogryn saying angrily. "Da Commiesar is not a smelly boy! He touched by da Empawor and even the pwetty Sisters follow him! You bad man!"
The Ogryn pushed the guardsmen away almost gently but in its anger in its initial gripping of the guardsmen's helmet... His head had been squashed like a can of beans that had been smashed open by a cinder block smashing into it.
The Ogryn snorted with his mucus filled nostrils making a racket but Barghest didn't respond and only had eyes for the clearly dead Guardsmen... And after a moment she snorted as well. As the only reason she didn't give the guardsmen a good wallop herself was she thought that it would make her boss mad at her.
But then a thought struck her. "You! Go throw the body away. I don't want the boss to think the guard tried to break his printers!" She ordered a different Ogryn and Barghest knew that the one she was ordering was another female Ogryn by her more smooth of a face.
"Uhh where do I put it?" It asked in confusion and Barghest's lips twitched at the instant question but she took a breath and knowing of her past abhuman races... Issues with things of any mental difficulty she gently explained to the Ogryns how to dismember the Guardsmen so he would properly fit into a smaller trash bag that could be thrown into a trash shute.
-
"Now this... This will do." I muttered with some giddiness building inside me. As the armory and RND section where I could begin fabricating a bunch of weapons and such was in the back of the Geothermal plant with plenty of electrical systems for me to tap into.
Adelieth who had obviously worked with some of the guardsmen to block off any small entry points like vents and the such smiled slighty at my praise while saying. "Also I had some men weld together a couple of storage crates to give you a small bedroom of sorts as our office deserves."
While taking in the surroundings I asked her in curiosity. "Good work on my quarters then. Where are you staying though?"
She with zero hesitation smiled and said frankly. "Of course I have my own bunk in your cabin to make sure that you aren't attacked by a demon as you sleep!"
I gave her a weird look before shaking my head in a lack of understanding the crazy sister of battle so I said. "Alright! That's wonderful thank you Adelieth. Now, let's go get my printers brought in here so I can begin making low-danger plasma weapons and some higher-grade laser-based weapons and armor for the guardsmen."
'Along with making the Super Soldier injection and treatment area... For all that Ogryns are loyal and obedient they are typically dumber than a bag of rocks.' I thought as Adelieth followed behind me as we headed back to the front of the Geothermal Plant to get my printers all moved in and put to work.
The installation of the printers went off without issue and I was busy with two plans right now. 'First was the manufacture of two dozen Zeta radiator tubes to make more super soldiers. Secondly is to have a couple different standard loadouts for the super soldiers I create.' I mused as I began working on my plans.
First was the armor the super soldiers were going to wear. Could I make armor that would be a match for Halo's Mjolnir armor or even the Custode's golden Auramite armor... Yes, I certainly could but the resources needed for such a thing were beyond the pale in terms of Glimmer's cost to create those elements. To say nothing of the computer systems embedded in higher-tier armor suits.
So in the name of a middle ground, I went down the tech tree to more simple but highly effective armor. The power armored of the early Fallout Series used microfusion cores and not the bigger bulkier fusion cores the later games used.
While wearing Power Armor made out of Saturnite no laser-based weapons could hurt them realistically. And its ability to isolate and carry high temperatures would allow it to burn away any Nurgle disease with its red-hot outer armor while keeping its occupant safe and cool. Hell if I had Saturnite's specs right, it was likely that a shot from a plasma gun if it hit on the thickest part of the chest could be survived for a super soldier.
Such armor I could mass produce with my printers making more printers and I could print out and make about fifty sets of the armor within a few days if my math was right.
But beyond the armor itself, i would be switching guardsmen Las-guns for Fallout Plasma Rifles that would have a lot more heat and kick to them, and for heavy engagements, they would have the Fallout Plasma Caster, and for emplacements or demonic entities a Spartan Laser should make short work of anything that isn't an actual demon of Nurgle.
'My presence here in this world has already brought about the ripples of fate in changing things. I cannot rely on the thought that Nurgle may decide to equally send a detachment of Chaos Space Marines in the Death Guard and their warbands. Or a Chaos Space Marine warband thats more on the Chaos Undivided side of things.' I mused with a frown.
I brushed a hand through my blond hair and then exhaled as I took in my singular oversized printer that was working to make Zeta Tubes that would perform the procedure to make the guardsmen into Super Soldiers.
"Jake, it is time for mid-day prayer," Adelieth spoke softly and I blinked hearing that before I nodded as I got up from my chair with a small humming noise as I walked over to her as she kneeled down with her hands on her knees while I sat down cross-legged in front of her.
"Jake... May we use your blessed rosary as well?" She asked with a flush entering her cheeks and I raised an eyebrow before I flexed my body making my Crysis's suits developing Ai... Not they knew my suit had its own growing Ai growing within it. Open my suit so my blessed rosary flopped off from where it was placed against my skin.
Her eyes locked onto the rosary and I gently took it off from my neck so our hands could come together around the charred holy cross that had a skull embedded in the center of it.
Knowing of the Empero's divinity and my inability to truly craft potent manners of mystical protection without actual mystical ingredients that couldn't be made out of Glimmer I did the best I could in making this rosary which literally did have a connection to the Emperor with the ritual I did well away from Barghest's eyes.
Adelith took a deep breath and then began chanting an Adeptus Soritas version of the holy prayer to the emperor while I dutifully kept my eyes closed and fed my holy flames of Sol to my burnt cross but my flames didn't burn Adelieth as her voice choked up and stuttered as her prayer was heard by a shard of the Emperor in the Warp.
"Blessed Emperor, our shield and our sword, Grant us thy strength of heart, we implore thee, O Lord. In the heart of battle, may our faith never waver, As we purge the heretic and the foul traitor.
Embrace us with thy holy fire and burn away the filth, Emperor divine, In thy name, may our righteousness shine. Grant us zeal to smite the enemies of the Throne, And to defend thy realm, unyielding as the throne you sit upon.
Guide our steps, O Emperor, in the darkest night, Illuminate our path with thy radiant light. In thy name, we march forth, undaunted and brave, To cleanse the galaxy of sin, to thy glory.
In the Emperor's name, we take up arms and fight, For the Imperium, for purity, with all our might. In thy service we stand, Ever vigilant, ever ready, at thy command to die in thy name.
Emperor protect us, now and forevermore, In thy name, we shall triumph, as we swore. By the faith of the Sisterhood and our fellow man, we shall never falter, For we are thy holy sons and daughters."
After a moment we both spoke out in unison. "Amen."
But her hands were still tightly around the Rosary with her icy blue eyes opening up with a hazy look in her eyes before she visibly swallowed and said slowly. "I felt his eyes upon me... With your mirror of his punishing flames pushing me from behind I was looked upon by his grace."
Adelith inhaled with a deep shuddering wracking her form. "It was... Just rapturous!"
I gave a wry smile as I realized that the ardent... Fanatical faith was tainting and filling my Rosary so it would likely become an actual magical artifact soon with the amount of fanatical worship she and Barghest regularly poured into it.
'Should I make a bunch of Rosary's and then when they get filled with enough faith I take all the Rosary's and tack them onto a mech to be a walking holy Blank to demons and tainted individuals?' I thought as Adelith gave me a look before she bit her lower lip and said. "Please excuse me... I have much to think about now."
And before I could react Adelith all but ran away making my face twitch as I wondered what was up with her. But then it hit me that she was probably confused as hell on how to treat me.
Does she venerate me in the same level as a Primarch with the obvious 'favor' I had with the Custodian guard I had along with my conjuration of the 'Emperor's Flames' Or does she instead hold me to some other standard.
Time passed by, and after a couple of days the ten Zeta-ray tubes were completed with the Custodes watching my actions with a particularly close eye.
And when they were done, I obviously put them to work with Barghest bringing my war-bands Ogryn's to them in order for them to be changed into neo-ogryns... Honestly I needed an actual name for the people who had gotten the super soldier treatment.
But for now, I didn't hide the process and even had the squad leaders of the guard watching the process to make sure they understood what was happening and allowing the enhanced Ogryns back into the squads in order for them to get used to their presence.
From there with the adorable smarter Ogryns put everyone at ease. I kept working to make better weapons for my newfound soldiers.
All in order to complete the mission that Grendyl gave me. In taking over the Leeman Russ factories that the traitors had taken.
three hundred guardsmen though was nothing as this city had a population in the billions and the Emperor knows how many of those humans were tainted in some way by the forces of Chaos. But regardless I kept working to turn the abhumans into super-solders....
Which included the singular Felinid guardsmen that I thought Grendyl had put into the force just to mess with me,
But regardless beyond more preparation, I began taking notes on my targets and their defenses as I didn't want to lose super soldiers to the forces of chaos if I could help it. I was in fact very well aware that my men could die. But I really didn't want to send someone to their death even if it was for the greater good.
"Boss!" One of the enhanced Ogryns called out excitedly as I was working on updating the Ai in my suit after Adelith left me alone for a bit.
The Ogryn walked over to me and then poked me on the shoulder and I saw the Custodes standing in the dark shadow of my workshop shift slightly. And I frowned at how the Ogryn just came up and poked me out of nowhere. "What?" I demanded.
The Ogryn in a surprising show of mental maturity looked a bit contrite at seeing my annoyance but snapped a salute to me as he reported. "Boss, Sister Adelieth has found a path into the Leemnan-Russ factory block through the ventilation tunnels!"
I slowly nodded as this was a bit sooner than I would have wanted... But then again even though Adelieth hadn't taken the super soldier serum she was patently superhuman by all metrics of the word.
So I stood up and with a mental flex I connected my suit to my comms unit and sent an order to the comms units of the two most augmented of my six squads of that equaled out to three hundred soldiers. [Mission Issued. Go to the armory and load up on new weapons for the mission in five minutes.]
'Fifty augmented humans, Ogryns, etc will be enough for now.' I thought before I realized there was something I was missing in my group. 'Crap... I should have made some snipers some stealth suites to go invisible and such.' I thought with some annoyance at having missed that strategic option before shaking off the thought as I walked to the front of the power plant with the Custodes walking behind me quietly as per usual with my full loadout ready.
-
By the time all the soldiers had collected the higher grade arms I had set out for them in Fallout Plasma Rifles for base infantry weapons and the likes of Plasma Casters for heavier fire and Spartan Lasers for Demolition and armor piercing, Adelieth stalked over from the armory with several micro fusion cells strapped to her waist that went into her plasma grenade launcher revolver.
"We are ready to push through the ventilation points." She spoke and I made a humming noise before asking.
"Expected resistance numbers?" I asked.
To which Adelieth answered quickly. "At least two thousand traitor guardsmen, up to ten thousand conscripted and mutated hive dwellers. And certainly, at least a dozen plague Ogryns that have been tainted by the fel demons of the warp."
I nodded as that was doable honestly... As the goal wasn't to slaughter them to the man, no that was impossible as we simply didn't have the ammo. No the goal was to push them out of the factories so we could secure it and then we could take the tanks being produced in the Leeman-Russ tank factory and start using them in the more open area's of Tertium.
I opened a chat window in my suit's display section and then I sent off a quick mission detail update to the demolitions and heavy gunners in the two squads that equaled a hundred soldiers following us. [Target mutated Ogryns and other aberrations while other combat units focus down other ranged enemies.]
Sending that off I let out a hum that escaped my suit and then I said. "Alright then let's get going. With the Leeman-Russ Factory taken over the path to taking Tertium back from the scum of Chaos will be ever close."
A loud thumping noise rang out and I looked over at Barghest who grinned while she hefted her large vibranium shield that had a large skull embossed rosary embossed onto the shield and even from half a dozen meters away from her. The burning void within the eyes of the golden skull on the shield niggled at my mind due to Barghest and the 'enlighted' Ogryns using the shield as a prayer mat/target of worship as they would all lay their hands upon the shield and do their prayers to the Emperor with their hands upon it.
'I am not sure... But I think that taking the super soldier serum also enhances the soul as well. As there is enough faith energy in that shield to block off some pysker bullshit.' I thought before shaking my head and calling out. "We march! We take back the weapons of this world freedom from the Heretic and we shall show no mercy!" I yelled out with several of the more zealous soldiers roaring in agreement.
One hundred soldiers or two of my squads. A bit more than half of them were augmented into super soldiers.
And that meant something, as being a supersoldier wasn't about just super strength and bashing some heretics' heads in. No, its main point was how each and every soldier had their minds, senses, and nerves tuned up so much.
Even if they weren't accomplished snipers before the serum? They were now.
And the equivalent of a dozen men with silence plasma rifles that were all but silent besides the sounds of people's helmets exploding when they shot their silenced energy weapons were the only signs of our movements.
We were a scalpel of surgical violence that killed off heretics from the back first and then when the main soldiers rolled up we would mop them up in an astounding explosion of violence as typically from the sides the super soldiers would shoot into the undefended middle sections.
And likewise the mundane soldiers protected by energy shields and scary-ass Ogryns with viburnum shields would act as the hammer to smash apart any resistance we came through.
"Commissar. A Plague Ogryn is around the corner." A voice hissed out quietly and my lips twitched as I looked at the short catgirl that had snuck around to my side as she was the expeditions scout with her uncanny ability to sneak through the shadows.
'Felinids actually do turn into catgirls... The dark age of technology did do something right I guess.' I thought as I gave a judging glance to Ecris's lithe form in her tight-fitting Vibranium suit that highlighted her petite figure and the lovely cat ears and tail that were exposed but besides that, all that could be seen from her was her face as the rest of her body was covered in the body glove.
"Good work Ecris, get into position with the Spartan Lance." I spoke as during the Spartan laser's production I had changed its design slightly so that way I could make variants and the lance was one that focused on a more compressed laser that would penetrate armor and hopefully deal with corrupted bullshittery.
The catgirl/former felinid saluted and then she leaped through the air and her stronger hands with claws on the vibranium claws on the end of her fingers caught the ductwork above us and within moments she disappeared into the dark shadows of the Hive City's pipe work.
"She has potential." The Custodian spoke bluntly.
My lips twerked up into a smile as I was in a rather good mood as no one had died due to everyone wearing a Vibranium undersuit and helmets so although some had some laser burns that made them need to camp down during our expedition no one, had come anywhere near fatally harmed.
But before I could proudly say anything the Custodian Guard continued with that same blunt tone. "With some battle stims, she would fit into the Eversor Temple."
I stilled at hearing that and I tilted my head to the side and asked frankly. "Should you be mentioning the assassin temples around me? Aren't they supposed to be top secret?"
And for a change, the Custodian actually answered me directly as he stated flatly. "You have an odd habit of knowing things you should not as a mere Hive Dweller."
To that... I had no answer so I just looked away while Barghest and Adelieth came over to my section as the convoy was reloading and allowing our energy weapons to cool down.
"Boss! I smashed a heretic Ogryn just a bit ago!" Barghest happily announced making me nod before Adelieth reported more normally.
"Commissar ahead is the Plague Ogryn but also several cultists keeping it calm and at least a good hundred or so traitor guardsmen."
I gave a slight hum at hearing that before ordering. "Hmm... Then I want to try something. We will kill the cultists and then retreat slightly to allow the Plague Ogryn to rage while our men here set up a killing field in the hall way in front of us."
Both Adelieth and Barghest shared a look before nodding and following along with me. But I could tell from Barghest as well, that she could hear Ecris the probably psychotic catgirl skittering across the duct work and maintenance tunnels above our heads.
Going around the corner the entry way into the Leeman Russ plant itself was a killing field as it was a huge open courtyard obviously for tanks be moved around and to allow materials to be moved to and from the facility with the huge main gate leading into the factor being firmly closed so I would need to hack into it to open it.
'At least, I can try once we clear out the courtyard.' I thought with a small frown as I took in the fortifications and hundreds of armor-wearing traitor guardsmen... And literally thousands of poxwalkers.
Then there was the Plague Ogryn. It was just sitting on its fat mutated ass with its disgusted cysts leaking its foul fluids everywhere as it was seemingly finger painting in a large puddle of what literally looked like its own diarrhea.
I gave Barghest a look and she grinned as she reached behind herself to the armored case she carried on her back and then after putting it down, she took out a large football that was seemingly made out of metal. That was a bomb.
A very heavy bomb that only Barghest and the other enhanced Ogryns could throw like a hand grenade as the larger American Football-designed bomb would slam into its targets and go off with an extremely powerful boom. As it was a fifty-kilogram bomb!
"Oi!" Barghest roared with her powerful voice cutting through the din of the traitors doing their filthy heretical dues. They seemingly looked on in confusion as Barghest pitched forward and after days of practicing throwing dummy metal versions of the football she yeeted that bomb straight into the back line of the traitor's fortifications and then we ran off turning around the corner as a massive "Boom!" Rang out behind us.
Hot air and debris hit our forms but we all had climate-sealed suits so we were unharmed and as the light and fire hit the turn I saw from behind me, perched within the ductwork/rafters was Ecris with her spartan laser and a silenced anti-material rifle beside her before I lost sight of her as we kept running back to the other guardsmen so when the traitors ran down this long hallway we would treat it like a killing field to prune their numbers.
