Chapter 110 - Blood and Regret

She lay her head on his shoulder, his midnight hair caressing her neck, and she felt warmth and comfort. Her hand squeezed his tight as she took a long, deep breath in, "This is nice, Leo."

"Really?" He questioned as she nodded, "Yes, I haven't got to relax like this in a while, it's always potions, medicine, and herbs." She shook her head, balling her hand into a fist and making a circle motion, "Mix, mix, mix, you know? All day with little care about me, in fact they wouldn't even visit me, if they weren't injured." "Are you serious? Sounds like a parasitic relationship to me."

She raised her brows, "You think so?" "Yeah, I mean, do you think I just come back to you for food or to be healed?" "Sometimes-" "No, I might get injured a lot, but I care for you, Gigi, why do I have to keep reiterating this?"

She squeezed his hand tighter, "I'm sorry, I just need some reassurance, I know you would never leave me but sometimes things get in my head-" "You need to trust me, Regina, stop doubting. Stop letting those parasites in your head, they only want to use you, they see you as a monster just as I. They don't care, they don't want you..."

Regina blinked back, eyes burning as she dug her nails into his skin, "Even so, just please don't leave me." "Regina." "ALL I AM ASKING IS FOR ONE THING, IF YOU ARE SO COGNIZANT TO WHAT THE VILLAGE IS DOING THEN PROVE ME WRONG. PROVE ME WRONG."

"Prove me wrong", she muttered to herself as blood dripped down her nose and onto the ground. The iron-smelling liquid taking over her nostrils as it filled the surrounding area, her face puffy and eyes watery, as she bit down on her lip. "I never wanted it to end like this", she looked around at the remaining villagers. "I never wanted to hurt anyone, I swear, I just wanted you all to see, to appreciate me for once."

"Monster!" One called out, "Just go! We never should have trusted you!"

"No, no, I did good, I helped you all when you needed me even when I didn't want to-I. I was there for you all! But you weren't there for me!"

"There for you? You're a healer, what do you think you were meant for? This isn't some equal transaction, you forget your place, what you were born to do."

"Born to do?" She laughed, "I was never born to help, I chose to, I chose to pick you out of all the times he told me it was a mistake. Every time you did something heinous I excused it because I wanted someone to care for me, to love me for who I was." Her eyes stung as liquid poured once more, "Is it so hard to care for something that's not human? That's a little different from you? You know, before Leo was cursed he was human, a good one, better than the likes of all of you!"

Her nails pierced her hand and she felt the acrid liquid drip down her fingers, "I wish I could have met him before all of this, maybe things would have been better. Maybe we could have been together."

Regina looked toward the ground and then back up, quickly dodging a sharp knife blade that was aimed toward her.

"WE WON'T TELL YOU AGAIN WITCH! ENOUGH WITH THE SOB STORY! LEAVE OR FACE US ALL!"!

"You still threaten me even with blood on my hands? None of you valued me at all, did you?!"

She sighed, rushing out of the village before anyone else could retaliate, something internally bursting through her chest making her fall to her knees.

The same pattern, the same pain she couldn't run away from, people she tried to please leaving her for dead and her brain hurting worse than the blood on her side.

Her eyes couldn't stop leaking waterfalls and she felt like everything else was pointless, that love had no meaning to it. That no one now could understand her or comfort her when she needed them the most.

Two creatures trying to prove their worth in this wicked curse of a world only to nearly destroy each other in the end.

This unbearable feeling made her wish that the Wolf would have struck from the beginning instead of holding back. Instead of making her believe that there was hope for change, for something better. Truly the little things don't matter if the big will always win, if the troubles always come back and if the wine is only temporary.

The drugs are no better because they give you a numbing sensation, trying to force you to push on in this unforgivable standpoint. Everyone is too busy for their good that loneliness becomes the thing that circles back and embraces you.

Just like for Regina, loneliness was what she was always doomed for, despite all the work she filled herself with and all the schooling she engrossed in. The blackhole never left her heart and it only tripled when Leo and the village abandoned her. Her home destroyed and what's left probably soon going to become ashes.

No coin nor meal could put a smile on her face in this situation and nothing probably ever will. For despair was the face of this tale and it would be for the rest of her days.

The town will face a curse that will plague generations and the Wolf won't make it long on foot, for the wound the witch tore in his face will slowly rip him apart. From the inside out, it will fester and bleed, something that will never heal nor flee.

It will bring him the utmost pain even if he wasn't the only one to blame and he will feel the sorrow she felt, never forgetting what he's done or left her. He will have a haunted mind, even worse than his cursed spirit, and he's going to wish death wouldn't have left him.
