Chapter 113 - Melancholy Tree

Plant me a seed for my melancholy tree, let the tears drop on it free, let the roots cave into the ground. Let it never be found, in a forest lost in the bounds, let the fruit grow and rot.

Let the water make it pop, for within this tree lies the end to all my needs. Humanity is growing colder, and the decisions are getting bolder. Sympathy is a fictional myth, a magical mist, and an empathic wish.

Even when the river pours, no one will take a gesture for more, tearing a piece of their neighbor's flesh for a piece of green and pushing their sorrows deep into the trees. Hoping no one discovers the truth, for it isn't clean, wiping crimson off their dying bark. Knowing inside lies something dark, twisted by age and ripped by the page. The once thriving tree isn't filled with any more glee, bitten holes, and bugs ripping through the seams.

Patches and bandages for the deep wounds and gashes from the world as poison in the grass. I can't help but feel the need to fill the holes, but no matter how much water I pour, the cup is still empty. Plugging them won't help; the leakage has already been dealt with.

My wilted evergreen, filtered in this wicked money scheme, they use you for their gain, profiting off my pain. Oh, sorrow filled my doubt with the torture shooting out, my chest ripping apart from this molded spark.

Thoughts were spinning around and around, my tree tasting sour from all the sinful sounds. Oh, how would a taste of good do for me? How would a taste of sweetness grow true for me?

Melancholy tree, how you are itching to be, the best way you can see.

"Magnolia, why don't we spend the day together?"

I nearly choked on the remaining coffee in my cup, looking up at his big smile with confusion.

"The day?" "Yes, I figured since you're always busy, that we could take this day to spend some time together."

"But we're already spending time together..." I glanced at Lady Bellum, who had grown oddly quiet.

"Well, I suppose, technically, but why don't we spend the rest of the day here? The day passes by quickly, and I want another peak at your library and garden again. Is that okay with you?"

I bit my tongue and folded my hands together, "Of course, I will just check with my mother to see if that's alright, want to make sure there isn't anything else planned."

"Go ahead", Bellum stated, while tilting her head to the side and there was something unnerving about it.

I felt her silence was even more horrifying than her blunt remarks because at least then I knew what she was thinking. When she was quiet I could only assume the worst, imagining her delicate planning on my demise. Judging my posture and nervous, crooked smile, my avoidance of eye-contact and inexperience to know my full schedule.

Even, though I have practiced for years there is always room for improvement, room to surpass expectations, and do better than your birth-givers could ever comprehend.

Here is one of those instances where I feel like I am not doing my absolute best but simply surviving, not as if I'm being hunted but watched. Watched with the intent of alerting the predators that there is a meal to be consumed soon, but not yet time to strike.

Under this pressure, I know that staying calm is an absolute key essential so I make sure to sit straight and alert the server as soon as they come by.

"Excuse me", I raise my hand slightly and the server stops, "Can you let my mother know that the twins have requested an extension on today's meeting." They nod, "Of course, Lady. Victoria, is there anything else you need?"

I glance around one more time and shake my head, "We are almost done here, so that's all for now, soon it will be lunchtime so I will see you soon. Before you clean up here just let me know her answer."

"Of course, Lady. Victoria, I will take my leave now", they stated taking any empty dishes or cups that were left over.

"I am thrilled for this day, Magnolia! Where should we go first? The library or the garden?! The garden is sort of calling my name, I am sort of itching to see some orchids!" "Orchids?" "Yes, they are some of my favorites along now with Magnolias."

I was surprised Lady. Bellum didn't roll her eyes but I did in fact, knowing he only said that to impress me. "Really?"

"Yes, yes of course they are gorgeous, especially the pink ones, what made your parents name you after them." "Well, it was the middle name of one of my mother's friends, that and of course-"

"The month you were born in right?" Lady. Bellum chimed in and all I could do was blink. "What? Surprised I remember the month you were born in? I pay attention, Lady. Victoria, please do keep up."

I sighed with relief hearing Lady. Bellum's smart comment as she held out her hand, raising a brow, "Is something the matter, Lady Victoria?" "Your silence was a surprise to me, I find your words more reassuring when you speak, also I felt it was unlike you to be quiet."

"Unlike me?" There was a slight shock that I could hear in her voice but it didn't sound as if she was offended but just caught off guard.

Bertram cleared his throat, "I figured of course, but I still wanted to ask, anyway, do you mind telling us about your mother's friend?" "Of course, there isn't much I know about her, but her name was Charlotte, Charlotte Magnolia Adelaide. She was a childhood friend of my mother's and passed away shortly before I was born. She was with her before my mother married into my father's family."

"She must have cared for her dearly to name you after her", Bertram replied with, "If you don't mind me asking how did she..."

The server interrupted Bertram before he could finish, "Lady. Acres approved, you may continue with your day."
