Cerian.
I didn't want to wake up, I didn't even want to go to church. It's not that I hated church,I was just tired because I stayed up all night watching Ben 10 besides kids at Sunday school are mean. I just wanted to sleep.
Sadly being a five year old kid in my household means you have no say in what you want or don't want to do most especially when you hear your mother screaming your name from downstairs telling you to get up and get ready.
I grumpily slid out of bed, still wrapped in my blanket like a buritto and shuffled my way to the bathroom. My eyes were still shut so just imagine how loud I screamed when I stubbed my toe on a wall. Actually , it wasn't a loud scream because I muffled it with my hand. Screaming like girl will land me in trouble with my dad.
"Be a man !" He says, " Men don't cry!" He says.
The pain disappears just as fast as I felt it and when I felt better, I dropped my blanket along with my clothes and got under the shower head. Time for my usual morning hot shower. I squinted a generous amount of shampoo on my hair, loving the smell of pine. gentle scrub gentle scrub, rinse hair move onto conditioner. It also smelled like pine. After my hair came my body.
If you haven't noticed yet, I love my hair, it is wavy dark brown ,a bit too long for my dad's liking. He's going to remind me to get it cut today. He always does that almost every morning.
I was done and already dressed just in time when my mum started yelling at me to get downstairs. The guy in the mirror said I looked good, giving a thumbs up comment on my black khakis, mint shirt and slacks.
Breakfast was a little he'll on its own, because I had to deal with my elder sister Grace, messing up my beautifully styled hair. That not being enough.
"Could you stop it," I groaned ,shoving her hand away from me. "Muuumm..!" Just a few minutes ago, I thought I was all grown up. Sam bothers me a bit and I'm crying out to my mother for help.
"Grace stop teasing your brother ," Mum said, from the kitchen.
She didn't be of much help because she had to deal with my two younger sisters, Rose and Sam. Each with a different problem. Rose needed help fixing the pink bow on her hair, Samantha couldn't find her pink doll shoes. It was just chaos, both girls screaming mum this mum that.
Dad came downstairs later...well he too had a problem of his own, asking my mother if she'd seen his Bible and hymn book. "I checked everywhere. I left it on the beside table."
"Honey it's on the table in the living room. Your tie is loose," She stated then turned back to the two little girls. "Sam, shoes under your bed, go get them. Rose stand still let mummy fix your bow. Cerian - Samantha stop messing around. "
Mum's magic worked on everyone, dad got his holy books, Samantha found her shoes and Rose finally had a nice bow fixed on her head. Samantha wasn't messing with my hair anymore and I was finally done with breakfast. When 8 rolled in,we were on our way to church listening to Amazing Grace playing on repeat. Till we finally pulled up in church.
The church was an old building, that looked like a castle. It had a garden for people to relax and a section of the garden set aside for Sunday school. There was a also a playground with a swing set ,slides and monkey bars. everything a child my age would love. That's the main reason why I always look forward to church on Sundays. The swings. my sister's too though Sam wouldn't verbally agreed to it.
" Okay you children behave. Samantha you are in charge," Mother said as we stepped out of Blue Betty.
Oh lemme introduce you to Blue Betty, shes dad's beat up Ford truck. Dad loved his truck so much he named it Blue Betty. He actually made the thing from scratch as it was an abandoned piece of junk in the junkyard.
"Here's your offering," Dad handed each of us a twenty then sent a hard glare at me, " It's offering ,I don't want a repeat of last Sunday."
What happened last Sunday? Well I sort'a used my offering money to buy sweets and a stupid money printer. Don't blame me, I thought it would work, turns out it was a fake. Unfortunately Samantha ratted me out to my dad, well he threw away the stupid printer and pinched my ears.
Now that I'm thinking about it, my ears still hurt from dad's pinch.
" Cerian, I'm taking you to the barber after church, your hair is really long." Dad said.
"Told you," Samantha smacked my arm, "Makes you look like a girl."
"Can we just go or we'll be late."
Mum gave each of us a see you soon kiss and asked us to hold hands as we walked towards Sunday school. Trust me, I didn't want to do as told but Rose was quick to grab my hand but I just couldn't tell the poor girl no and risk her screaming her lungs out to the whole congregation.
