The rain persisted as Richard returned to the laboratory.

Richard walked in, set down his dripping umbrella, glanced out the window, and it was already getting dark.
He turned around to light the room's oil lamp and candles, tossed the invitation onto the lab table carelessly, and took steps toward a huge culture cabinet against one wall.
Pulling out a large number of culture media from the cabinet, Richard observed them with his naked eye.
"Hmm, contaminated with bacteria?" Richard's eyes flickered as he added strong acid to the clearly substandard culture media, releasing a pungent smell as the colonies and contaminants quickly died off.
Next, Richard placed the culture dishes that couldn't be inspected with the naked eye under a microscope.
