The dawn of the day still had it's misty dew, as the young fox had closed the front door of his parent's cabin.
The young boy had a bit of excitement for this dawning day. His lightly Amber fur had felt softer than usual. The rising sun enveloped the sun in the most beautiful and glorious way, bleeding orange and gold into the clouds that passed by the horizon.
Miles was his name. Miles Tails Prower. His adorable blue eyes seemed to be fascinated by everything he seemed to pass by in his small town on the south island. The trees, the grass, the sand growing the grass, the hand made fences wrapping the cabins of the neighbors' homes. It all was so fun, brilliant and complex to Miles.
The very young boy knew he probably should not be outside without his parent's permission, however the dawning sun and the beauty, the chill in the air, the misty cold scent of the woods. It was all too fascinating for him to ignore. He woke up early just to see this. He was not going to miss it.
Miles whiskers flickered and twitched from the cold air as he started to run. Miles was trying to get a better view of the horizon before it would lose its beauty. He would leave his small town at the east end. He knew it was the east end because the sun rises east. Miles found himself in a long and grassy field. The angle to see the horizon was almost perfect, yet there was a hill on this field blocking the bottom end of the view. Miles' two tails straightened out, annoyed of this hill and knew he needs to reach the too soon. There was no path to follow. For a kid as young as him and as well behaved. For him to break the many rules he has already broken. This was a bit jarring for him, but he can't stop now. Not when he is so close to seeing something so heavenly.
The hill was sharp and steep, rising at a seventy-two-degree angle. He dug his clawed fingers into the dirt and grass and kicked his red shoes onto the ground and started climbing up this hill. He felt so weak for something like this but he was a strong and dedicated fox. He kept going, feeling the muscles in his arms and legs strain and burn from the intense push he has almost never done before. He could see the top getting closer and he was so excited. He could not stand missing this sun give its shining sight. He wanted to see it bad.
He could see it slowly being revealed to him. The light of this heavenly glow being unveiled by the top in reaching distance. The moment the light had hit Miles he had to squint to readjust to the sun's glorious shine.
The top was reached. Miles was on his knees panting. The moment his breath was caught he sat back and glanced over to the horizon. It was perfect! A true sight of glowing red, orange and gold all bleeding together, staining the clouds in its harsh hue, with all of it getting brighter the closer the horizon was to the ground. A ball of glowing. Hot gas. The size of immeasurable vast space, all representing its kind warmth onto the skin of Mobius. Miles would stare to the sky and eventually shift into a lovely blue, far around the horizon.
An odd feeling started to overwhelm Miles. A feeling of achievement; whatever he could and would do in the future would never top this goal that he had just reached. It almost had grown knot in his throat but chose to take this feeling of achievement with pride. The young fox stood up, puffed up his chest, and smiles at the sun. Truly happy with what he had accomplished.
Miles closed his eyes and took a deep breath, taking the feeling in as long as he could. It was all so surreal. The wind blew past him with ease and he stood there like a flag. His two tails wagging joyously. This was something he would never forget. Pride in reaching a goal with no help at all from anyone. Not because anyone did not want to help, but because he did not need it.
The wind then blew in the opposite direction, hitting him from behind. The force was so strong it nearly knocked Miles off of his feet, but easily catches himself. Miles's feeling was kind of ruined but found how easy the feeling was lost, funny. He laughs at himself, finding the lack of feeling so suddenly, amusing.
The ground had then smacked upwards, slamming Miles onto the ground. He then lost balanced and rolled down the hill, smacking the ground as the ground shook violently. Tumbling and turning, thrashing about as he rotated downhill. His speed in rolling down the hill suddenly lost its inertia. Miles's rolling had ended as he had reached the bottom. The earthquake shaking soon ended. Miles was baffled and unsure as he helped himself up, patting the dry cold dirt off of himself. He looked at the hill, unsure of what had even happened.
He turned to see his small town. Miles felt a pit in his chest. Confusion, fear, genuine life-altering distress as he saw his whole hometown in ruins. Another set of homes different in design, shape, and form fused and spread out inside the now ruined cabins. Miles was sickened and in shock. There was no way to react properly for a kid like him for a situation this sudden and confusing.
His feet started to walk on there own, closer to the ravaged debris. He had to know if everyone was alive and safe.
"Woah.. What happened here?!" Said a voice next to Miles. Miles looks over at the person who had seemingly came out of nowhere. It was a hedgehog. A blue one. Looked to be a year or so older than Miles. The blue hedgehog had quills all slicked back and sharp small ears, unlike Miles' which were somewhat large and fluffy. The hedgehog had a bit of a cocky grin as he looked over to Miles. The voice that had slipped out of the hedgehog had a small amount of grime leaving an odd cocky tone.
Miles stood there, staring at the blue boy, befuddled to his sudden question. He felt a knot well up when he had thought about an answer to the older boy's question, "....My..."
"What's that?" He says quickly and curiously, placing his hand behind his ear. Leaning in towards Miles, still with that grin.
"My.. My mom and dad are in there.." Miles's tone was confused and hesitant. He did not want to say those words. Feel so weak and unsure. The concept of being without his kind-hearted mother and brilliant father was implausible
The hedgehog's grin slowly faded. The look on his face had gradually drained and looked at Miles. An expression of guilt and sorrow filling his face, as if he had already assumed their death for Miles. He gave a solid and calm stare at Miles as he spoke, "can you stay right here?. I'll look for them and bring them to you.."
Miles gave a soft sniff before nodding silently unsure if he can even react properly to what was happening before him. This hedgehog was just randomly going out of his way to help Miles. Help see if his parents were alive and ok. It was inconceivable for someone to be so randomly kind.
"Ok.." The hedgehog said softly "I'm Sonic. What's your name?" He asked as Sonic was starting to walk to the remaining rubble.
Miles was even more confused. This kid just gave him his name just to help calm Miles, making Miles more confused and skeptical. He chose to respond with a name a bully had once called him. Giving this strange hedgehog his real name had not really felt like a risk but he wanted to be safe, just in case "My... My name is Tails".
Sonic's head gave a tilt of curiosity but then noticed the two fluffy tails from behind Miles and nods, "ahh... I get it. Well, stay here Tails, I'll do what I can to help. I'll return in a moment", and with that, he was gone with a gust of wind. Literally in a blur, sonic's body had zipped into the remains of Miles's ruined and destroyed hometown.
Miles was shocked. A lot was to take in, so many questions, so many problems hurled into his young and simple life. Who was this blue hedgehog? Where did he come from? Why does he care to help? What happened to his small village? Were his parents and neighbors ok and alive? What would happen to Miles if they are not ok? Is it ok to be scared?
Too many questions and no answers. Miles chose to answer the questions he can control first. It's not ok to be scared. His father taught him to be brave and his mom taught him to think logically over every situation. So Miles chose what will happen to him if they are not ok.
His first choice for himself was simple.
