Gabriel 'Gabe' Hills:
Moaning as I drag my feet into the kitchen, I toss my briefcase onto the counter. As I did, however, it opens and all the papers inside scatter everywhere.
"Aww man," I groan, my head falling onto the counter. Letting it rest there for a bit, I turn when I heard little footsteps enter the kitchen.
"Oh no," Allison says, poking my back. Not even getting so much as a laugh from me, she turns around.
"Mom," she yells, "It's happening again! Dad is sleeping on the kitchen's counter!"
Hearing some laughing and some more footsteps walking into the kitchen, I then feel a hand patting me on the back. Raising my head, I see my beautiful Rachel, her smooth caramel skin and long dark hairs sparking a bit of life back into my dead body.
"Hey honey," she starts, wrapping her arms around my neck. "Another tough day at work?"
"Yes," I reply, hugging her back. "A very tough day."
Chuckling, she asks what's wrong.
"Did Pierce hog all the doughnuts again? No, wait! Bram made you redo all the paperwork again? No, no, no, that's not it. Oh, did it finally happen? Did you accidentally spill coffee on Mr. Newman like you always fear?"
"No," I scream, stepping back. "No! No! None of that happened thank god! No, Mr. Newman is in Nevada I think. Something about an accident and a robbery over there. No, I didn't spill coffee on him. And no Pierce didn't hog all the doughnuts and no, Bram didn't make me redo all my paperwork either!"
"Hmm," Rachel smirks," Well, I'm out of guesses. So what is it that got you all worked up uh?"
"It's all of this," I answer, waving my hands all over the scattered papers. "This is literally never-ending! And I do mean never-ending! Ahh! I spent my whole day just filling out paperwork! I can't even feel my hands anymore."
Bringing both of them up, I stretch my fingers hoping to regain the 'touch sense' in them. Rachel ignoring them, walk past me.
"Hmm," she murmurs, looking over the papers. "What is all of this for?"
"Oh nothing much," I say, bending over to pick them up. "Just a bunch of boring stuff for this new experiment at work. Mainly having to order a few new things we didn't have before."
"A new experiment," Rach repeats. "Sounds interesting. What is it? What are you trying to do?"
"It's stupid," I say, picking up the last of the papers and straightening it out before putting them all back into my briefcase. "Get this. Apparently, Pierce, Bram, and I will be using radiation to increase or decrease the sizes of things so that--"
"Oh my god," Rach screams, cutting me off. "Sorry sweetie but I have to go now. It's almost 7'o clock and I promise Allison I would take her to the store to buy a new backpack after getting some groceries."
Giving me a quick kiss on the lip, she grabs my car key from the counter and turns away.
"Come on honey," she says to Allison, patting her away. "If we don't leave now, the lines at the register will also be never-ending. Hahaha."
Still laughing at her own jokes as she scoots Allison away, I smile at the two. Opening the fridge, I reach in and grab myself a brownie Rachel baked a few days earlier. About to take a bite, Rachel screams.
"No snacking," she yells, scaring me and almost knocking the brownie out of my hands. "I'm making my special chicken stew tonight!"
Letting out a sigh, I put the brownie back.
Rachel Hills:
Loading the last of the groceries into the trunk of our car, I slam it shut and push the shopping cart into the stalls.
"Are you ready honey," I ask, getting into the driver's seat and looking back at Allison as she stares at her new backpack. A basic backpack with two straps, what Allison loves the most about it is that it had a giant picture of a ladybug on it, sitting on a little leaf.
"Yes," she says, placing her backpack down beside her. "Are we going home now?"
"Yes, we are."
Turning the key and pulling the car into reverse, I pull out of the parking space. Switching over to drive, I slowly drive up to the curb and stop. Checking both ways for oncoming traffic, I step on the gas.
"Mom," Allison says.
"Yes sweetie," I ask, turning my head.
"Can I have some juice, please?"
"Unfortunately not. The juice is in the back and I can't---"
Hearing the sound of screeching tires and a honking car, I turn my head back in time to see a pair of headlights coming right at us!
