"Have you seen a Lich? About this tall, wearing a black cloak."
"No."
"Have you seen a Lich? About this tall."
"No." The townspeople shook their heads one by one. More of them leaned on their windowsills on the second floor, looking down at the commotion.
"Hurry up and search! Quickly! Leave no corner unchecked!"
...
In a dark corner far away, the Black Cat quietly pulled its head back into the burlap.
"Where are you from?"
"Underground."
"Then I advise you to go back underground quickly, that's the realm of the undead. On the surface, you'll definitely be burned to death. Those Knights are frustrated because they have no one to show their bravery against. You're just in time. If you could kidnap a princess or two, that would be ideal."
"Kidnap a princess? What is a princess?" The Lich Gray was full of questions.
"A princess is the King's daughter... Alright, you probably don't know what a King is either. The King is a grand lord. And a daughter, damn it! A Lich who can't have descendants surely doesn't know what a daughter is... Speaking to you makes me want to die!"
"You are already dead."
"I, I mean that talking to you is... It's very frustrating for me! Oh god, what bad luck, how did I run into a Lich like you!" The Black Cat's fur stood on end.
"Why do you find it frustrating to talk to me?"
"Stop, stop! We're getting off-topic! I was just telling you to get back underground quickly."
"No." The Lich answered firmly.
"Why not?" The Black Cat had never heard of a Lich that didn't want to go underground; it was practically a paradise for them, even the church couldn't do anything about it.
"Because the Great Lich Bruto is hunting me everywhere, planning to capture me and make bone soup to feed his Hell Hound." The Lich Gray said helplessly.
"Hunting you? Why? Did you dig up his family's grave too? Oh, sorry, I forgot, Liches dig up their own graves, if they even remember where their family's graves are after becoming a Lich."
"I was hiding in his lab learning spells. You know, I only recently awakened as a Lich, it's unreasonable not to learn some spells."
"So you were stealing his skills... How long did you hide? Did it need the entire underground world to hunt you?"
"Uh... about a hundred and fifty years. I took the skeletons he used for decoration, and then I hung myself in front of his bookshelf." Gray pointed to the hook on his head.
The Black Cat couldn't help but laugh, "A hundred and fifty years... Can 'recently' even be used to describe that kind of time? I've really learned something new. You really have a way, who would have thought this pile of bones had a smart side. Didn't he sense your undead aura?"
"In the underground world, even cockroaches carry an undead aura. How could he differentiate who is who? And at first, my aura was very faint. Later, when it became stronger, I learned to control it."
"Then why were you discovered later?"
"Because he was going to turn me into a Skeleton Soldier. After casting the spell, he found out I was a Lich." It was an unbearable memory. Gray recalled the Great Lich Bruto's fury when he discovered him, the entire room shook. But fortunately, Bruto was relatively civilized for a Lich. He only had several Hell Knights beat Gray up and then threw him out the window of the underground castle.
But that was just the beginning. When he found out some other things, Bruto was no longer so "friendly" to Gray.
"Looks like you really are out of options." The Black Cat quietly retreated, turning around to sneak away.
"Where do you think you're going?" Flame rose on Gray's outstretched finger bones, gripping the Black Cat's scruff.
"Damn it, am I really stuck with you? How does the saying go? When you meet someone unlucky, either kick them or quietly walk away. Bad luck is contagious!" The Black Cat struggled hard, but ghosts couldn't overpower a Lich.
"I need a guide now."
"That's your problem!" The Black Cat refused firmly.
"Okay, I also need a fresh soul to make a new magic wand."
"Fine, being a guide is actually a nice job. I've loved being a guide since I was little." The Black Cat quickly changed his mind. "So, where do you plan to go now?"
...
The sound of hooves approached. In the distance, another group of cavalry entered the town.
"Damn it! They found us so quickly. How did they know the Lich was here? Did someone leak the information?" The leading Silver-armored Knight looked furious.
The surrounding subordinates were all dumbfounded.
In times of peace, well-fed and well-drunk Knights needed something to brag about to please the noble ladies. Burning a Lich? That would be enough to brag about for a lifetime. However, with Knights from all over the continent converging here, it's hard to say who would get to boast in the end.
The newly arrived cavalry squad walked slowly along the main road. When they got closer, the onlookers and the Silver-armored Knight were taken aback.
Leading them was a petite noble girl with long silver hair tied in a ponytail. Her delicate and beautiful face rode atop a tall horse, dressed in light armor with a sword at her waist.
She walked within about five meters of the Silver-armored Knight, glanced around, and gently raised her hand, signaling her attendants to stop.
Turning her face, she spoke to a Knight beside her. The Knight then rode forward, lifted his visor, and revealed a face full of a thick beard.
