DID I JUST ENROLL IN A MAGIC ACADEMY IN THE FIRST CHAPTER?

"Haaaa…." I sighed deeply.
"You've been sighing so much today… Are you still unsure about what you want to do?" Mother, the True Hero, Caroline Ascalon Ashborn, asked me.
I sat on a chair close to the kitchen counter, my legs swinging idly. My chin rested on my hands, lost in thought.
"I thought you'd know what I should do." I replied.
Mother let out a soft chuckle, a knowing smile touching her lips as she turned back to her work. "If you're worried this will bring up bad memories and keep my baby girl up all night, then I say scrap the idea altogether."
Mother then dipped both hands into a large bowl filled with a thick, black mass.
"―Can I." I jumped upon hearing her response, feeling a bit relieved. Maybe I didn't have to decide. I could just hold off the decision by coming up with a barely plausible get-me-out-of-trouble reason.
