Chapter 80 - Chapter 25

The next morning I came down to see a woman talking to Jasper. She was tall and slightly curvy and seems to like him very much but Jasper seemed bored to see her. The moment I walked into the living room she asked Jasper who i was. He introduced me as his wife. The woman stared at me for a moment before she asked him what he sees in me. Jasper was so pissed that he slammed the door in her face. I gave him a hug to calm him down. I remained as still as possible till he was calm. That didn't take long. Jasper saw that she had her nose pressed against the window so he shut the curtains.

We drove to the sleepy little town of Stone cliffs. He stopped at the diner and he carried me inside since he was in the mood to be romantic. The waitress saw him and blushed. When her eyes met mine her eyes felt cold and bitter. We sat on one of the stool near the counter and she leaned down. The woman began to drool. I asked her if she was ok. Jasper retorted that the woman has back issues so she likes to lean. He finds her to be as boring as dishwater. She gave us a glass and topped it with water. I asked for ice since it was a warm as bathwater. I could just add a tea bag and make tea. Jasper snickered as the woman came back with glass of ice. She took our food order but took so long getting it so I decided that I should just cook for Jasper. This amused him so we got up and left. As we walked across the street the woman called us to come back as our food was waiting for us.

I swore that she likes him as much she hates me so she may have spat in my food. This prompted him to politely ask her to pack everything since he said he was in the mood for a picnic. We gave the food to the nearest homeless person and walked to one of the street vendors to eat what they had to offer. They sold salmon cakes and crepes. We ate a few and walked till we saw a swing. I made a beeline straight towards it and I heard his merrily laugh that followed me. Some of his new friends were amused by my desire sit on it. I sat down to swing back and forth. I saw a little girl holding her friend as she walked as though she was her steady. If she lets go the girl will most likely to fall.

I closed my eyes and remembered the day the my uncle asked me why I sleep with the lights off. He was concerned that monsters would get me. I casually explained that monsters are afraid of me. I have a natural shield around me that repels them. He smiled at the extent of my imagination and walked off to answer his phone in private. Moments later he came back with a suspicious looking syringe. He winked at me as he injected the mystery substance into me. Whatever it was made the pain more tolerable. I was able to walk for a little while without the crutches. I was so pleased that I asked him if he had a crate of the stuff for me. He laughed merrily as he explained that it was an experimental drug so it is not made in huge amounts. The ingredients are scarce and not so easy to acquire. He promised that when it is made readily available he will give me as much as I need so I will be better. We shook hands to agree.

There was a scream and I felt annoyed as I had to open my eyes and get out 😔 f that memory but that feeling went away the moment I saw the zombies. I ran towards them and they parted ways to let me through. Jasper and the others were on top of a cliff and they watched as those things stepped aside for me. The munchers refused to even look at me. I felt Jasper mumble about how I had been able to guess what abilities I would possess when I was just a little girl. How my imagination had actually done exactly as I had said in that memory. The others started talking about mind over matter and other stuff that started to bore me. I brushed him off as I ran to find the source of the scream. It was a kid no older than five. Next to him was a little girl younger than him. When I approached to get them to safety the kid stepped in front of the other one as a shield. I waved to say I meant them no harm and scooped them both up to find a safe space. I tried to remove the link between me and Jasper as I tried to figure out what to do. I heard a few groans and calls of annoyance but it felt crowded in my head. I saw Jasper and the others so I dropped them off there before I managed to have the space between my ears to myself again. Then I did my legendary scream. The zombies started popping like balloons. The Arctic wolves started to laugh as they enjoyed the scenery. Jasper stared at me with fear. He waited till I was done to promise that he won't piss me off. The others wolves promised too. I waved them off before I turned to the kids. Their tear streaked faces were smiling with awe as they saw the monsters were gone. I picked both of them and walked towards the ledge to show them the row cars that were leaving the town.

I asked the kids where their mommy was and the boy pointed at one of the cars jammed on the only road out of there. I listened in and found out who the mom was as the authorities ordered the people to go back to their homes. I took them back their mommy and ran till I was safely hidden behind some trees. The woman hugged her children as their dad look at the dead zombies with disgusted. I had to make the kids promise not to tell their parents what I had done or it would be trouble. I ran to Jasper and he made me relink with him. I had to get used to seeing things from other people's eyes as well as their thoughts. I did however get out their heads if there was any need for privacy.

The others smiled as I went through memories of my childhood and one memory caught their attention. It was the memory of the washing machine. I was eating breakfast while watching cartoons when mom came with the laundry and an iron. She started to iron them slowly. I asked her why she was doing this and she said that the washing machine dries the clothes but it doesn't iron them. I was so pissed that I hobbled to the laundry room and kicked it a few times. Then proceeded to yell at it for being so mean. About how mom was overworked and yet it can't even help her by ironing the stupid clothes. Mom was by my side nodding her head looking vulnerable when Batou walked in with Pizza. He heard a few sentences and was trying to decide if he should laugh or just explain what is the purpose of a washing machine. I didn't get to that part because of that infernal honking from the neighboring car. I seriously wanted to rip their steering wheels off. Jasper smiled as he gave a hug to calm me down. We drove off into the sunset hoping it would be happily ever after.
