Chapter 148 - Chapter 16

Bane came with a request from the people of Piedra de la Luna but unfortunately I had other plans. So I sent them my apologies. The council sat down to lay down their list of demands. Some were ridiculous but some were wonderful. In the end I had to ask them to amend their ideas since I was not in the mood for a war between the vampires and werewolves. Some of them had no clue that this would instigate a war so they said that they will review their idea and get back to me. Grandpa was grinning ear to ear as were the others. Batou and the babies gave me a few thumbs up. The guards were free to express their opinion. So they humbly applauded. I leaned the window and tried to center myself.

Oleg chuckled as he saw me clutch the key around my neck. He asked me teasingly, "Wait is that a key? Why do you have this around your neck? Is this going to open anything important? Is that the key that could activate the nuclear missiles to shoot up in the air and blow stuff up." I merrily laughed as did the others. I chuckled, "This key belonged to my mom's locker when she was a police officer. I kept the key as a reminder that every key fits a lock and every problem has a solution. I just need to persevere. The solution will present itself at the opportune moment." The council members were awed by my philosophy.

Aldridge came announcing the arrival of humans requesting an audience. I was placed in a veranda with a bulletproof glass as a barrier. The newcomers started to complain that I would talk to the people of Nocturnum without any sort of barrier but why I would approach the humans with every precaution possible. I smiled, "Past experiences dear child" To which one of the men retorted, "This coming from a child." I grinned, "My body may resemble that of a fifteen year old but I am six hundred years old. Some of the Nocturnum here are at least a thousand years old. We stopped aging the day we transformed."

The humans were surprised by this information but I brushed aside their expressions as I was told that the humans have a separate ruler now. I asked them why these people are here since their ruler is a human. The men said that they were hoping that I would extend my shield outside Central. To which the council laughed, "There is a limit to the shield extension." The man said, "Just show me the machine and I will recalibrate it so it protects us all as well. Or take it apart to figure out how to at least make a duplicate so I can protect my men." The entire audience started laughing. When the laugh subsided the man asked what was so funny. Kuze said casually, "The shield you speak of lives inside our Empress. She adjusts it according to her preference. It used to protect only her but because of her love for us she uses it to defend us. Because we are her only family."

The men stared in disbelief so I escorted them to a place that is still in renovation. I took off all forms of electronic devices off my body to show that there are no tricks. I wanted to prove that the shield lives inside of me. There was a pit filled with zombies mindlessly roaming back and forth. I retracted the shield and walked into the pit. Immediately the zombies made a path to let me walk. They were keeping the usual five foot distance as always. I looked up at the audience. Cain and my great grandfather were perplexed. The humans were shocked. I rolled my eyes with boredom before I lazily walked around for a minute before I closed my eyes and extended my shield. The nocturnals were laughing hysterically as the zombies stared to walk away from me like I had opened an invisible umbrella. The men stared in awe and anger. Cain and his wife gave a round of applause.

When I walked out of the pit I asked the guards to escort the humans back to human civilization. The men boarded their respective vehicle with the air of annoyance but were enlightened nevertheless. I chuckled, "I have a feeling it will be the same as it was in October during the final days of Soren's reign and the beginning of Abe's." Confused everyone stared at one another for answers. With the air of confusion Oleg asked politely, "What would that be my dear bride?" I shrugged, "Since the shield lives in me these people will attempt to kidnap me. Since population is scarce they are highly motivated to kidnap me and experiment on me as well." The Pretorian guards and my Alpha guards snarled in rage. The audience roared in anger. The nearest swore that they won't allow any sort of shinanigan. The council members sent their own personal security to quadruple the security.

The nocturnals began constructing a wall to block the humans. I reminded them of the tunnels to which I was told the previous emperor had sealed them shut. The first wave of humans attempting to kidnap me came a month after the construction commenced. Eight people came with equipment to sedate me but they only made it about ten feet before they were tased and sent back to human civilization. The next attempt was a week later. These were dragged kicking and screaming back to the bridge that connects nocturnals with humans. The nocturnals finally got bored and blew up the bridge. A month later a squadron of werewolves were sweeping the northern perimeters of Central. One of them stumbled on a make shift military style bridge was constructed. Soon after a small tank drove over it. This oddly built tin can was transporting heavily armed men and women. Cade tripped silent alarm. Jake flipped a switch which activated an EMP blast stopping the vehicle immediately. The men and women popped out and they were gassed. In no time these people were sent back to the human zone.

This went on for a year till the politicians sent their emissary asking that I visit the human zone. And as a peace offering he brought the man he says responsible for the zombie apocalypse. I chuckled, "Stop your lies. You sent a dud last time but I helped regardless but now I will only help when I have the actual culprit's head. Why are you defending him when he is killing your people?" The council snarled in anger and the man was escorted out. Oleg asked me nicely if I knew who the culprit was. I said his name was Edgar Brash. He is a scientist who got his hands on the original notes that make zombies. He was someone who hates anyone or anything that isn't human. To him they have to be eliminated." Oleg tilted his head, "How do you know this?" I cringed, "When they bought the alleged criminal's head. I dipped my finger in the blood pool in the bottom of the box and licked it. I saw the entire scenery." The vampires clapped their approval while the werewolves nodded their approval.

Finally the nocturnals had enough and decided to drive out the humans and claim the lands for nocturnals like they had always planned when we left October. The Native Americans will be left in peace but the others will be driven out of Tsar forever. The notice was sent and soon nocturnal forces spread out. They used an incapacitator to render the troublemakers unconscious. Then they were escorted to the outskirts of fortress Excalibur and Umbrella. Then construction began to rebuild Crepuscule and Pearl. Humans were approved to remain but the ones responsible for the zombie apocalypse were evicted. The humans remaining were the ones who approved of the nocturnal ruling so they were allowed to stay. Then the werewolves and vampires spread their colony and built the railways and other technological advances. Obviously I would go and help them with the construction of the cities and the destruction of zombies. The council would be screaming their disapproval of my behavior. The locals were grateful. A full year went by and finally Tsar was a safe haven again.
