"But if that isn't enough…?" I asked, my voice trailing off with uncertainty.
Chris sighs, glancing at me as if he was just about to ask the same thing.
Anne pauses, a serious look on her face. "If it comes to that, we can negotiate terms for his release to ensure he's closely supervised. This might include house arrest, strict probation, mandatory counselling, and, of course, restraining orders or protective orders for you, Chris."
"And would he have to… stay away?" Chris's voice is tight, but there's some hope there.
"Yes. With the right conditions, we can make sure he's not legally allowed near you or Audra. We can push for electronic monitoring, frequent check-ins, and anything else the board might be open to. They won't grant his parole lightly, especially not if we present a solid case."
All of this sounded good, but for some reason I could still feel the anxiety about this possibility.
Chris tensed, his jaw clenching. "But… would a restraining order even matter to him?"
