Chapter 20 - fifth match

"Ready... Begin!"

Alex rushed at Jackie Chun, throwing a left punch, then a right—both missed. He aimed a kick at Jackie's midsection, but the old man leaped backward, dodging effortlessly.

"Not bad," Jackie said, taking his stance. "But... you'll have to do better than that to get me going."

Alex smirked. "I was just testing the waters. Now I'm serious!"

This time, he charged in much faster than before. Jackie barely had time to react and blocked the punch with his left arm. BAM! The impact made him grit his teeth.

'This boy… How did he become so strong in such a short time? Give him a few years, and he might even catch up to the others,' Jackie thought.

"Not bad," Jackie admitted. "Making me block means you're pretty good."

The two fighters held their ground before simultaneously jumping back.

'Damn… I put everything into that punch, and he didn't even budge,' Alex thought, tightening his stance.

Before he could react, Jackie was already on him. The two clashed, exchanging flurries of attacks as they raced around the arena. Neither could land a decisive hit. They soon separated, landing in the middle of the arena, locking eyes.

Jackie smirked. "Let's see if you can handle this!"

Suddenly, Jackie's body split into multiple copies—eight identical versions of himself surrounded Alex, spinning rapidly around him.

'Which one is real? Think, Alex, think! There has to be a way to figure it out!' Alex thought, trying to focus.

Before he could react, Jackie's copies closed in, striking him with a barrage of punches and kicks from all directions. Alex could do nothing but endure the onslaught.

Jackie's clones suddenly pulled back, forming a wider circle. He prepared to attack again—but this time, Alex jumped high into the air.

'This is it! He can't fly—I can't waste this chance!' Alex cupped his hands together.

"KAME... HAME... HAAAA!"

A bright blue energy wave burst from Alex's palms, heading straight for Jackie.

'H-How?! W-When did he learn that?!' Jackie's mind raced. No time to be amazed—snap out of it, Roshi!

Acting quickly, he fired his own Kamehameha. The two blasts collided. BOOOM! The explosion sent Jackie flying backward.

Just before he crashed into the ring, he flipped midair, landing safely on his feet. But before he could react, Alex was already on top of him.

BAM!

Alex slammed both fists into Jackie's back, hammering him to the ground before jumping back.

Jackie struggled but pushed himself up, wiping some dirt off his face. "You're really something… It looks like I'll have to get serious."

Jackie removed his shirt and tossed it aside. He swung his arms in a strange motion, then suddenly stopped, powering up. His muscles expanded slightly as he took his stance.

Alex grinned. "Here I come!"

He rushed in again, throwing a punch. Jackie dodged and countered with a punch of his own.

Alex fell backward but quickly rolled to his feet and struck back. The two began exchanging blows, bruises forming on both fighters. Finally, their fists collided with each other's faces, and both collapsed.

Mellon shouted from the sidelines, "Come on, Alex! You can't let that old man win!"

"They're both fools, just standing there and taking hits," Baba scoffed. "Jackie, you better win this!"

Jackie slowly stood, smirking. "This ends here, boy."

Suddenly, he started acting strange, stumbling around as if he were drunk. Hic! "Hehehe… what?"

Alex hesitated. "H-Hey… are you okay?" He stepped closer, thinking he had hit the old man too hard.

Without warning, Jackie's fist shot out, striking Alex in the gut.

"Gah—!"

Jackie followed up with a swift kick to Alex's shin.

"Ouch! What the—? Wait a minute... This is Drunken Boxing!" Alex realized. "I totally fell for it!"

"You... I'll show you!" Alex swung a punch, but Jackie easily weaved around it and countered with a blow to Alex's face.

Jackie then started moving unpredictably, swaying and dancing as he continued his assault. Alex tried dodging, but Jackie's movements were too erratic.

As he attacked, Jackie started singing, "Clap, clap! Feels so good, doesn't it? Doesn't it?~"

'There's got to be a way around this... Wait! I got it!'

Alex jumped back, creating distance.

"Heh! Think you can get away?!" Jackie slurred, chasing after him.

Just as Jackie launched an attack, Alex vanished.

"You think you can fool me with an afterimage technique?" Jackie smirked and threw a punch behind him, expecting to hit Alex—only for his fist to pass through another illusion.

Alex's voice echoed from a distance. "Your Drunken Style relies on unpredictable movements, surprise attacks, and keeping your opponent close. But if I don't let you approach…"

Suddenly, afterimages of Alex appeared all over the arena.

Jackie frowned. "Heh… So what? You figured it out. That doesn't change anything!"

He began attacking each afterimage, but they kept vanishing. Frustration crept onto his face. Realizing his strategy wasn't working, Jackie abandoned Drunken Boxing and attacked at full speed. This time, Alex's afterimages couldn't keep up, forcing him into direct combat.

The two fighters clashed once again, their blows sending shockwaves throughout the arena.

Mellon and Baba watched in awe, unable to keep up with the speed of the battle.

BANG!

A massive shockwave erupted as their fists collided in the center of the ring, sending them both skidding backward.

Alex was breathing heavily, exhausted. This was the toughest fight he had ever been in. Jackie, while worn, was still in much better condition.

'I guess I have no choice… I'll have to use that technique. It's risky, but at his current strength, he should survive,' Jackie thought.

Straightening up, Jackie took a deep breath. "This is the end. I will win."

Alex tensed. "What is he planning…?"

Jackie continued, "There are only two people I've ever used this technique on. First, my student, Son Gohan. Second, my student, Son Goku. And both times… I was the victor."

He raised both hands, forming them into a triangle in front of his face. Electricity crackled between his palms.

Alex's eyes widened.

"Now… prepare for my Thunder Shock Surprise Attack!"
