“I don’t know when she will wake up… but it will happen when she’s ready.”
That voice. It isn’t one that I recognize, but as I slowly open my eyes, I find that the sights I last remember aren’t the same ones I’m faced with now. The white walls around me cause me to blink back the light invading the room I’m in. My fingers brush against the scratchy fabric of a blanket that covers me as I groan from the pain radiating through me as I try to move.
The last thing I remember is Elenon’s face, burning—turning to ash before me as my vision began to shift and darkness overtook me. Other than that… I don’t remember a thing.
“She’s waking up!” Faeryn calls out, her bright, concerned face coming into view as she rushes to my side. “Oh my god, you had me so worried. How could you do that? You could have gotten yourself killed.”
“Faeryn… that’s enough,” my aunt’s voice calls out as she and my mother rush to my side. Tear stains stream down my mother’s face as she stares down at me.
