Chapter 251 - The final date

Clive and Gwen are walking hand in hand down the street. They are going towards the south gate. But it isn't them. Their bodies are currently on loan.

"Did Gwen make a fuss about you taking over her body?" (Death)

"No. She just said that I shouldn't do anything too weird as she is fairly known to army. It's not unexpected as she did live in the castle and train with the army." (Life)

Everything is the same as before except their souls. Their souls are currently hibernating. The ones in control are their predecessors. The previous harbingers of life and death couple are on a date in their bodies.

"Still, shouldn't we go somewhere fancy? We are going outside of the town for a date." (Death)

He asks. It was her request that they spend their last moments in peace and quiet without any one around.

"I just wanted to spend a leisurely time together. We never got to go on a quiet and relaxing date, did we?" (Life)

"Yeah. Every time we were on a date, someone interrupted us. Most of the time, it was the harbinger of order. That man was a stickler for rules." (Death)

She laughs at that. They pass through the gate as the guards know the both of them. At least Clive and Gwen.

"It's a good place." (Life)

"Yeah. We didn't die in vain. Our death started a genesis. That has led everything here." (Death)

They keep walking. It's a sunny day with moderate temperature. A perfect day for a date.

"This place is always sunny. It doesn't rain much, does it?" (Death)

"It does. Not long ago, it was raining cats and dogs. I guess Clive doesn't notice stuff like that easily. Being a harbinger in a human world is hard." (Life)

She exclaims. It's true that Clive rarely pays much attention to those specific stuff. As long as he is fine, it doesn't bother him.

"Look, it's that lake, isn't it?" (Death)

He points towards the lake which Clive had saved from the curse. He met Doris here.

"This lake, it has some of that black stuff mixed in, doesn't it?" (Death)

"Hmm…it does. Where did it come from?" (Life)

Both of them are surprised. Because the black stuff they are talking about is otherworldly filth.

"Did any of those otherworldly pests invade this planet?" (Life)

"No. I think Clive has the answer. I checked through his memories. One of the fallen creators was hiding a fragment in this lake which another creator retrieved." (Death)

This is a shocking reveal but they decide to ignore the fact.

"We aren't on duty. We are on a date. Let's focus on the date for now. Clive and Gwen can deal with it." (Life)

She dragged him from that place and headed further south.

The southern end of the continent is just a cliff that meets the sea. The scenery is picturesque.

It's not too far from their current location. So they move at their fastest speed possible.

"His body is certainly easy to use." (Death)

"Her's too. They both are training freaks. They won't admit it but they are hardworking." (Life)

Clive and Gwen sit at the edge of the cliff. Sea waves are crashing at the bottom of the cliff. It feels like the ground has come to an end. There is no land beyond.

"If it was evening, we could have enjoyed a sunset." (Life)

"Yeah. But this isn't too bad in itself. Do you remember our last moments?" (Death)

He asks. She looks at him.

"I do. It wasn't a good end. We weren't able to be together in our last moments." (Life)

"That still fills me with regret. I wasn't able to save you." (Death)

"Don't. Our demise was unavoidable. It was set in stone. Besides, our demise created this entire new world. We became the progenitors of this world. But it saddens me that those parasites are leeching off of this world as well." (Life)

Silence flowed. They both don't speak for a moment. They are just savoring the moment and trying to spend as much time as possible.

"Our date ended up becoming a date for old people." (Death)

"Aren't we old too?" (Life)

"You have grown. You couldn't even tolerate hearing that. But now you are just accepting it." (Death)

"It's no use denying the truth. We may have been harbingers but that doesn't mean we are anything special. After all, harbingers are just people with some special powers. We aren't unique like THEM." (Life)

They get up and stare at the horizon.

"Shall we leave then?" (Death)

"Let us. We wanted to spend our last moments together. That wish has been granted. Let us pass on. We shouldn't bother our successors too often." (Life)

And so, they both left. This time for good. They will never return again.

Clive and Gwen are back in their bodies.

"That was unexpected. I didn't think they would conclude their date so soon." (Clive)

"It's all about what they want to do. They wanted to finish early. So they left. How about we head back as well." (Gwen)

"Yeah. I hope they were happy in the end." (Clive)

"I am sure they were. I felt her emotions. She was happy. She didn't have any regrets." (Gwen)

And the date concluded. Clive and Gwen walked back to the town and it took them a while. No one was angry or anything but they were bombarded with questions.

Still, it means that another story has come to a close. Next is the human demon cooperative display Clive had proposed a while ago.
