"I'm sorry, I didn't expect things to turn out this way."
This was the first time Wayne Lane had lowered his head to apologize to someone.
Hannah was lying on the desk, not wanting to look at him.
The sun had set in the west, and there was no one in the classroom; everyone had gone to eat.
Wayne Lane sat in the seat in front of Hannah and turned around to look at her.
The afterglow of the setting sun fell on him, and that icy face which always kept people at a distance seemed to have signs of melting.
Tense and embarrassed.
"Hannah, I'm sorry."
He apologized again, bowing his head to try to see her expression.
Hannah turned her head away, looking at the wall instead of him.
The classroom was very quiet.
So quiet that Hannah felt Wayne Lane should say something like, "I've apologized already, what more do you want from me?" and then turn away and leave.
But he didn't.
He just sat very honestly on the chair.
Because he knew he had done something wrong.
