I soon found this Baroness Stylevenna among people. She was standing by the refreshments. All the people in this room were wearing masks apart from the maids and servants of lords and ladies. So if I walked over to her right now, she could see my looks. "I suppose that is a good way of getting her to recognise you," uttered Scarlett. "Would you stop reading my mind?" I asked annoyedly. "I can't help it," she mumbled.
I walked over to the refreshments on the pretext that I was gonna get Miss Lily-Anne some drinks or food. As I got closer to the Baroess I noticed she was leaning against a wall with a wine glass in front of her, she was swirling the wine glass before drinking it all. Beside her, I also noticed many empty glasses. The smell of wine and beer was triggering memories in me. Memories I didn't want to remember. "Relax, it will be ok. She will soon stop drinking right after she adopts you. Your presence will help her to stop drinking," Scarlett explained patting me on the shoulder.
I slowly walked past her, making eye contact, smiling then looking away. And right on cue, Baroness Stylevanna pulled onto my hand. Yes, it's working, I initially thought. She pulled me into a hug saying "Avery I miss you so much,". I struggled to get out of her embrace. She must have felt shocked because she let me go quite quickly. I curtsied and muttered, "Ma'am, I don't know who you are,". "Avery, I know it's you. Why are you calling me ma'am. Are you still mad at me? Mother knows it's my fault, please don't leave me," she began to cry hysterically as I was frozen on the spot. What am I meant to do? I'm not very good at comforting people.
I gently patted her on the back as she continued to hysterically cry. People were starting to look at us. Maybe this was not the best idea. I noticed that Miss Lily-Anne was looking over here as well. "Ma'am I'm not sure who you think I am but my name is Eveline," I explained. "No your not your my Avery. Avery, I'm sorry it's all my fault. Please come back to me," she began to shout. I could hear people around us whispering things like "Isn't Avery her daughter's name?" and things like "Who is this girl?".
At this moment a brunette man came up to console the Baroness. "Juliet, what's wrong?" I heard him say. "That's the Baron Antony Brewer Stylevenna, your soon-to-be adopted father," Scarlett explained as I nodded. "Antony, Avery," she stammered whilst pointing to me. "Juilet, Avery's gone. She's dead Juilet," stated Baron Stylevenna. Oof, not the best way to go about this to a grieving mother. "No, she's not," Juilet screamed whilst launching at me. She hugged me tighter whilst I patted her on the back.
"Ma'am I'm really not Avery nor do I know who Avery is," I announced whilst patting on her back. "What's wrong?" Princess Camilla asked as the crowd parted ways for her. The Baron stood up and bowed before explaining that the lady was his wife. Camilla gestured for him to help his wife up. "Eveline are you ok?" Miss Lily-Anne asked as I nodded. The Baron had gotten someone to stable his wife before turning to look at me. He too looked quite shocked as well.
"Miss I'm terribly sorry about what just happened. My wife is a little drunk you see. She must have mistaken you for our late daughter Avery Kylie Stylevanna," he apologised whilst bowing. "Why would she mistake me for her daughter," I asked "Because you look exactly like her," he announced. Wow seriously? "I've told you before, you look like her," Scarlett announced.
"Since there's nothing wrong now, disperse and continue enjoying the party," Princess Camilla ordered as everyone curtsied and went back to enjoying the party. The music began to play again and the hall was filled with people dancing once again. "You ok?" Miss Lily-Anne asked as I nodded. I looked in the direction of the leaving couple and then turned to follow Miss Lily-Anne.
