Chapter 4 - Chapter 04

[General Pov]

It was early morning when a woman woke up to a strange noise coming from the ground of her house. She was going to ask her husband to go see what was happening, but he was not at home at the moment, as he was a famous lawyer who often stayed away from home for a few days.

Thinking about it, she got up from bed and went to see what could be. She walked towards the location of the sound, which was the kitchen. Silently, she went down the stairs, passed through the hallways of the house, went through the back doors of the kitchen, and peeked through the half-opened door.

What she saw left her comforted because it wasn't a thief or anything like that, but still, what she saw left her heart racing with anger and concern. She saw her son, a young man of only 14 years old, who showed himself to be an exceptional genius in almost everything he tried, but who had a serious addiction to adrenaline and fights.

Her son was there, all dirty with dirt and blood, holding a knife and apparently about to start cutting pieces of raw meat. He had hunted a deer in the forest during the night, and she knew he had gone alone. Seeing the situation, she felt immense anger, but also great concern. She knew he was capable of taking care of himself, but couldn't help worrying about the things that could happen or go wrong during his nocturnal hunts. The diurnal hunts are already dangerous, imagine the nocturnal ones, she thought as she spoke.

"What are you doing?" she asked firmly, opening the door with force. "You could have gotten hurt or even died out there in the forest. I don't want you to do this again." The woman spoke these words firmly, without leaving room for dialogue.

Her son looked at her with a slightly mischievous smile, his face dirty, and said, "I know what I'm doing, mom. I can take care of myself." After listening to what he had said, the woman swallowed hard and spoke:

"I know you're strong and capable of taking care of yourself," she replied, trying to calm herself down, "but I still worry about you. I don't want you to get hurt because of this." She thought for a moment and had an idea. "Promise me you won't do this again, at least not alone."

Upon hearing what she said, her son hesitated for a moment, but eventually gave in to his mother's concern. "Okay, I promise. I won't do this alone again." Even though he said that, she knew he wouldn't keep his promise. He's really stubborn.

[Elizabteh Pov]

I look at my son in this situation and think, what can I do with him? I know he will never keep his promises. Since he was little, he has been addicted to physical training and fighting, and that scares me. There is a monstrous and bloody war happening in Europe, and I am afraid he will participate in it. The situation in Europe is not good and it is getting worse. If our country enters the war, I fear for our safety.

Enough with Edward's desire to go to war and fight for the country, or rather, kill and die like a fool for the country. My father fought in the Indigenous War of 1890, and I volunteered in the Spanish-American War of 1899. I can only say that they were horrible moments in my life.

I look at my son, who had dirt and a little bit of blood that dripped from the deer on his body, and say:

"I love you, son. And I want you to always stay safe." I go to him and hug him tightly. He returns my embrace, and we stay like that for a few seconds until I tell him to go take a shower and go to bed because it's late.

[Main Pov]

After receiving a little scolding from my mother, I take my deer and go cut it to store, as years of hunger and suffering prevent me from wasting any type of food. Funny thing is, this is something that happens frequently, as I'm not the best at following orders. Plus, I'm pretty sure nothing bad will happen, but hunting at night in a world with vampires isn't very smart.

Maybe I should really stop hunting at night, as I don't want to be killed by a vampire or, even worse, become one. I have nothing against vampires, but shining in the sun is not for me, and the paleness is too uncomfortable.

Anyway, I never liked the idea of being a vampire. I'm happy with my life, and if necessary, I can somehow manage to transform myself. While I was thinking about it, I prepared the deer meat for human consumption - a beautiful meat that vampires can't enjoy.

After finishing the meat, I take a shower as my mother instructed and go to my room, but before sleeping, I practice some meditation. I feel my body and try to relax it - the training I went through taught me to have control over both my body and mind. A strong mind is synonymous with a strong body. While meditating calmly, the fatigue of the hunt begins to affect me, making my body heavy, and slowly I surrender to sleep.

[General Pov]

Every day of the week, exactly at 5:00 a.m., a young man wakes up, takes a shower and goes out for a run. He has a toned body, defined muscles, bronze-colored hair and green eyes, and appears to be 17 years old. He is 5'9'' tall. He runs around his mansion, dodging and doing parkour on some nearby obstacles as part of his morning training.

He runs a total of 10km, then does 100 push-ups and 100 squats, finishing the entire process at exactly 6:00 a.m. From there, he starts training martial arts, varying between boxing, karate and a little bit of Kung Fu.

Finally, he finishes his training at 8:00 a.m. with his clothes soaked in sweat, sits down for a bit and takes another shower before going to have breakfast with his family.

Arriving at the mansion's dining table, he sees that two people were already sitting there: a woman with beautiful golden-copper hair and green eyes, and a child who was identical to him, but a little smaller, measuring 5'6'' in height and with a very thin body compared to his. Although they seemed like twins, one looked like a 14-year-old and the other like a young adult of at least 17 years old, a truly surreal difference. The young man sits at the table and talks to the people present.

"Hi mom, good morning! How was your night? And you, little brother?" The young man says this with a big smile on his face, as if he's joking with them. The woman notices the young man's words and steps forward to speak, but is interrupted by the child next to her, who speaks in an irritated manner.

"Bruce! How many times do I have to tell you to stop calling me little brother? I'm only a few minutes younger than you, it's not like you're years older."

The young man's words confirm suspicions that they are twin brothers, showing even more the difference between the two. The woman looks at the commonplace scene, gives a smile, but quickly closes her face again. She remembers what the young man did last night and the dangers of his attitude, and reinforces her tough look as she responds to him.

"Bruce, we need to have a serious talk..."
