Grace couldn’t sleep.
She changed sides. She hugged the blanket tighter. She even counted backwards from one hundred.
But her brain was just too awake.
Every time she closed her eyes, she saw Samuel’s face. His intense gaze, the way his breath hit her ears, the way he asked that question.
“Do you feel it too?”
She covered her face with the blanket.
“Why would he say something like that?” she muttered.
Her heart sped up again just thinking about it.
It was strange. In her old world, she never even talked to men much. Her days were all about work and sleep. Nothing else.
But now, things were different. Too different.
She was lying in a luxurious bed, in a hidden family’s estate, sharing the same house with Samuel Bryant. And worst of all, her feelings weren’t staying where they should.
Grace turned again.
The room was dark, but not completely. The moonlight came through the curtains, falling on the floor like a soft glow.
