Chapter 31 - The Moment of Salvation

Wei Jia's body trembled uncontrollably, the aftershocks of the electric torture still coursing through her veins. Every muscle in her body screamed in protest as she shifted her position slightly on the cold, unforgiving ground. The rope that bound her wrists and ankles dug deeper into her skin, making her wince with each movement. She could still feel the sting of Fang Bi Gan's cruelty, the laughter that echoed in her ears long after he had left. He had made sure she knew her place in his world: insignificant, disposable.

She couldn't help but feel a wave of anger rising within her. Why did he do this to me? She had been nothing more than a pawn in his world, a prize to flaunt, an object to use. But more than that, she felt the sting of betrayal—the betrayal of a man who had never loved her, who had never seen her as anything more than a tool for his ambition.

The memories of her past flooded her mind like an overwhelming tide—how she had hoped for love in their arranged marriage, how she had once believed that he might change, that the coldness in his eyes would warm up. But it never did. It was all a façade, a cruel game, and she had been the one to lose.

Her hand subconsciously moved to her stomach, the slight roundness of her belly reminding her that she wasn't alone in this world. I have to survive for this baby. The child growing inside her was the only reason she still fought, still held on. Her child, a symbol of everything that could be beautiful, everything that could be different.

And then, a sound broke through her thoughts—the creak of the basement door. Her breath hitched, her heart raced. Was it him again? Was it Fang Bi Gan, here to torment her further? But no, this was different. There was a sense of purpose in the footsteps, something confident, something resolute. She looked up, her vision blurry, but her heart leapt in recognition.

It was Fu Caishen.

He entered the room, his dark eyes scanning the space before they landed on her. He took in her disheveled state, the bruises, the cuts, the marks from the ropes. His face hardened, his jaw clenching in anger as he strode toward her without hesitation.

"Wei Jia," he said softly, yet with undeniable authority. "Hold on. I'm getting you out of here."

Tears welled up in Wei Jia's eyes, but she refused to let them fall. She couldn't break down now—not when she had the chance to escape. She tried to speak, but her throat was raw from screaming, her voice barely a whisper. "Caishen... I… I don't deserve this."

Fu Caishen knelt beside her, his eyes softening as he placed a hand on her trembling one. "You don't deserve any of this, Wei Jia. No one does. You've been through hell, but it's over now. I promise you, it's over."

He signaled to his men, who were waiting just outside the door. They quickly entered, cutting the ropes that bound her to the bed, their hands gentle but efficient. Wei Jia's limbs were weak, and she could barely sit up on her own, but Fu Caishen was there, his strong arms supporting her as he helped her to her feet.

"I'm sorry," she whispered, tears finally spilling down her cheeks. "I'm sorry you have to see me like this."

Fu Caishen's gaze softened as he cupped her face in his hands, wiping away her tears with his thumbs. "You don't have to apologize. You've been through so much, and I should have been here sooner. I should have never let this happen to you." His voice was thick with regret, but beneath it, there was a fierce determination. "But you're safe now. I won't let anyone hurt you again."

As he helped her out of the cold, damp basement, Wei Jia felt a sense of relief she hadn't known in weeks. The oppressive weight of Fang Bi Gan's cruelty, the suffocating darkness of the basement, and the fear of being alone—she could finally breathe again. She was free.

But the road ahead wasn't going to be easy. She knew that. Fang Bi Gan wouldn't just let her go without a fight. He would want to reclaim her, to assert his control over her life again. But this time, Wei Jia wasn't alone. She had Fu Caishen, and that gave her a new kind of strength.

Her voice steadier now. "I won't let him control me anymore."

Fu Caishen looked at her with unshakable conviction. "And you never will again. I'll make sure of that." He pulled her close, his warmth enveloping her, offering comfort, protection, and a promise. "You and the baby are my responsibility now. No one will ever hurt you again. I'll make sure you both have the life you deserve."

Wei Jia let herself rest in his embrace, feeling the warmth of his words seep into her soul. For the first time in a long time, she felt a glimmer of hope—a hope for herself, for her baby, and for a future where she was not bound by the chains of her past.

And as Fu Caishen held her close, she knew one thing for certain: the nightmare was over. It was time for her to live again
