"I mean it," Allen continued, his gaze steady but not overwhelming. "I planned this to give you a proper date. To cheer you up. So don't overthink it, alright?"
Her chest tightened, and she bit her lip, nodding slowly. "Alright," she managed to say, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Good," Allen said, leaning back with a satisfied smirk. "Now stop looking like I've thrown you into a boss fight unprepared."
Zoe couldn't help but laugh at that, the tension in her chest loosening. "Well, it felt like one," she admitted, finally meeting his eyes again.
"Not my fault you're dramatic," Allen teased, picking up his drink and taking a sip.
"I am not dramatic," Zoe shot back, though her smile betrayed her. She glanced at the bracelet on her wrist again, the wave charm catching the light. Every time she looked at it, her heart swelled a little more. "But seriously… Thank you. For everything. You didn't have to go all out like this."
