Eva raised her face too slowly, her movements tentative, her trembling eyes searching for his, though the hesitation in her gaze spoke volumes.
"I-I am... sorry," she stammered, her voice barely audible, the weight of her guilt pulling her down. "I didn't mean to..."
Xylon's fingers tensed where they rested, and his shoulders heaved with a sharp inhale.
For a moment, he didn't respond, his jaw tightening as if holding back another storm of words.
When he finally looked at her, his expression was filled with frustration .
"You didn't mean to," he repeated, his voice low but carrying an edge, like a blade dulled from overuse.
"You never mean to, Eva. But it doesn't fucking change the fact that it happens anyway."
He leaned forward, his elbows on his knees, hands rubbing his face again as if trying to wipe away his anger.
