Chapter 112 - Dumpster Diving

What began next was a list of all the people who could not get a job through Manpower's current connections and it was a long list. These people came out with low grades, or some of them were perfectly good, in my opinion, but pissed someone off and would have someone hanging over your head because you hired them. One of the interesting ones was something Kelly brought up, and she sighed as she began.

"This is one of the not trash, trash. There are not as many of these as you think there might be, but we do have some. We do not buckle to pressure from outside sources or politicians, but that does not mean the companies that would hire these people won't, which we have to disclose as part of our, might be a problem clause you signed with us." Kelly told us, "We do not want you hiring someone only to never come back because the person you got pissed off some son of a Multi-sector weapons manufacturer that is hell-bent on destroying someone's life and you walk into the crosshairs without knowing," Kelly smiled wryly, "So, This is one of the candidates that I would like to show you."

Without further prompting, Kelly put the face of a tired-looking human woman who had large breasts in the picture. She looked almost done with life at this point, just from the picture, and I looked at the school scores. "This is a Robotics Engineer with amazing grades, and just so happened to have gone to one of the sector's best schools for Engineering. She was third in her grade and also, permanently, disfigured the son of a local politician in the Federation Government stationed on the planet." Kelly said with a sigh, "If you can find a way to get this girl off the planet, then she will become a huge asset to any organization that can gather her. Unfortunately, the Federation politician here is part of Immigration and Emigration services and continues to ensure that any planet movement or company that she works in is never able to get their goods or her off planet." Kelly stared at us deadpanned, "Every time I see people like you, looking for people they can be cheap with," She glared at me, "I show them this woman. Get her off the planet; this is one of the best from the trash bin. Understood?" Kelly finished.

The level of obvious corruption regarding this woman was startling, but this was also in the corporation, and we were also signed to an NDA for anything we learned here. We were dealing with people's very personal details, and the fine for leaking this was harsh, to say the least. "I think we can arrange an Interview, but we would like that to hold your highest level of privacy possible," Ura said.

"Absolutely, we have a room for that, and it is free to those who hire more than ten people. Otherwise, there is an additional fee."

"Okay," I replied, "Put her on the list to see. But I do not want our names showing up with her name around it, understood?" I finished, and Kelly nodded.

"Obviously, we have been doing that for anyone in unique circumstances like this," Kelly finished. "Now, onto the next." Some of the names Kelly brought up were unacceptable. One was unhirable because of the rape allegations from dozens and dozens of women that she had to disclose, with just not enough evidence to convict the man. The man was not that competent, though, for all those borderline convictions. So we moved on, so many names, and we started to get to those with lower grades as we listened.

"This is a Beast woman of the Rabbit Lineage," Kelly said, bringing up a Bunny girl with large ears and a rabbit-like face. If I saw a woman like this in real life,, I would call them a furry without question as she was clearly a humanoid Bunny, instead of a human with Bunny ears like the Cat girls I have seen or myself. She had two cute little buck teeth, but her resume was chemical engineer, "She got mid marks but graduated with a double major in propellants and combustible chemicals. She is in the trash bin because she has rejected a few too many offers till now," Kelly sighed, "She did not have the grades to turn down all the job offers she got and then kind of ended up as unhirable because she punched one of the interviewers that had a" Kelly paused and sighed, "He definitely had a fetish for Beast people. And well, the manager dealing with her at the time put her at the bottom of the pile. She is smart, but she might say no to you; she is also temperamental, and I am unsure if she will sign something for the cheap like you want." Kelly finished.

"Line up an interview if she is interested. If not," I shrugged. "It is what it is. Show us the next name. We have been at this for hours." I yawned, and Ura nodded.

"How many do you want to interview?" Kelly asked.

"Keep going through the list of Engineers of various majors, and we will see. Also, you were not wrong; a lot of these do really come up as trash people that you wouldn't want to talk to."

"If you truly want to create a contract to sift through our trash candidates, you will need a strong Labor resources department ready to deal with complaints and investigations. Some of them here should probably have a bounty on their head."

Both Ura and I nodded in agreement but continued going down the list.

"This is a Hextar, but you don't want to see them, so moving on. Now, this is a guy who has some personality issues, but that is because of how closed off they are. I mean, seriously bad at interviews," Kelly said, bringing up a picture of a really young green man, "A Goblin, with the stereotypical explosive engineering mindset. I could not get that much out of him. Grades are average across the board, but he has failed all the interviews into the trash bin," Kelly finished.

"Give him an interview," I noted, and we continued.

We went down the list and started to get to people with just shit marks that got past, but I thought they could make good assistants for the better ones. We started to pick a couple of names and put them up for the interview, but we also started to get tired. After hours and hours of looking at names, we finally came up with a list of two captains, Seven engineers I was thinking of for research and development, and fourteen we think could be used as assistants.

This brought us to various people to manage the logistics department, something that Ura and I needed to be particular about. If we picked a good one, these people would be running our supplies in the future. And the list was quite short, to my surprise.

"Logistics in this galaxy is one of the things that there will never be enough people doing. Things always need to be moved around, and the increasing demands on the shipping industry make Logistics personnel prized. So there are always schools teaching more, and companies snatching them up. So the people who fall through the cracks in this list are," Kelly paused, "Not great or there for a much better reason than bad at interviewing," Kelly sighed.

"First meet, this Orc, one of the few yellow-skinned orcs born and raised here," Kelly said, showing a large man, "He," She paused and sighed, "I don't know if he is any good at it," Kelly said with a sigh, "No one has given this Orc a chance because he is an Orc, and people think a lot of them are stupid. The tusks on their face and the way they talk do not help that fact. They make great mercenaries, but this guy is a trained Logistics manager from a local college. His grades are middle of the road and low on some points, but," She shrugged, "You are looking at the trash tier."

Both Ura and I nodded, and I shrugged, "He doesn't seem bad. Line up an interview. He probably would be the loyal type if we take him in. Let's talk to him and see if I am correct." I finished, and Kelly nodded.

"Then we have a little Beast people from the Fox decent," Kelly said, showing me another Furry Beast girl with seven tails coming out of her back and a happy smile on her snout. She was a beast humanoid once again, and I looked at her record and noticed a long notes section on the side. "This is one of the people that keeps coming back to our hands. Employers say she is a little too much and prone to accidents, like seriously so," Kelly said, "the notes section is filled with incidents like her accidentally demolishing a massive load of supplies for a grocery chain. It was a hazardous mishap for a lab; the investigations all say that they are faults that would have happened sooner or later, but she just seems to trigger them for unknown reasons. Honestly, great girl, in my opinion; I have personally talked to her; poor girl just needs a break."

"How many jobs has she gone through?" I asked bluntly.

"Thirty-four since she graduated; lost them all before probation was over," Kelly replied, and I sighed.

"I am not sure," I said slowly. "We are going to be dealing with various chemical compounds and weapons."

"Why not make her a health and safety person?" Ura said, silencing the room. I turned to her along with Kelly. "She makes things happen around her that were inevitable?" Ura continued slowly. "Let's have her set up our shipping health and Safety teams and help whomever we put in charge of the logistics. We might even put them at the same level," Ura finished.

I opened my mouth to reject the idea, but then I remembered that I had no idea if NPCs are permanent in the main universe. If they are not, how stupid would it be to lose valuable people and supplies to mishaps? That thought made me pause even more, and I closed my eyes. "Set up an interview," I said and looked at Kelly, "I am unsure if we need it, but it is not a bad idea to talk to her and see what she thinks. In fact, do you mind telling her that we are not thinking of her for a Logistics manager position but a Health and Safety person in charge of a Logistics center?" I asked.

"Absolutely; that way, we can also find out if she is interested."

"She will have to sell us on picking her up, though," I said, ensuring that I was not backing down from this position, "I am unsure if we will even need this position and for now, I am thinking no, so if she sells me that she can not only do this position but set it all up with that in mind," I grinned, "Then she will make it past probation, and if she continues after the first contract, I hope we can offer much, much better contracts."

"Okay, I will put that in my notes as I send her the interview offer by message right now," Kelly said, typing it into her console.

It took her a minute, and Kelly frowned for a moment but then smiled, "It seems that I am starting to get some replies to interview requests, and they are all accepting them at this time. Shall we continue?" Kelly asked.

I yawned and nodded, thinking about how boring this day had been, and we continued.

We continued to watch, talk, and convince each other, and we came up with a list of people for logistics, research, and development centered around automated weaponry, although I wasn't sure if I could convince them of that. We got a couple of people from the trash heap for labor resources, and then we moved on to bounty hunters.

People looking to become bounty hunters in Manpower were the people looking to get trained and join a company that had experience. "So, Here at Manpower, our 'bounty hunters' are wannabe bounty hunters OR very trained bounty hunters looking to leave the field; which do you want?"

"The first," I said decisively, "Although if you have a trash heap of the latter, I would love to look at them."

"I, in fact, do have one," Kelly said, "A trash heap of a person, and a person I-" Kelly paused and sighed, "You know what, let's just look at the record," Kelly said cutting herself off and suddenly a scared woman was on the screen. This was a woman that looked like she had seen some shit. One eye was clearly gouged out from her face with an eyepatch over it. The scar around her face was jagged, and her two dog ears were ripped partially apart. They looked like they had been wolf ears, but the damage done was immense. The dozens of scars visible told of numerous combat feats, at the least, and Kelly sighed as I then noticed the details and gasped.

Dozens of dropped assault charges on employers, but also commendations from those same for the times that she saved their lives. The Bounty Hunter Association gave her a raving recommendation letter but had a warning at the end not to piss her off. This woman had a rap sheet too and did time for murder for three years as it was considered accidental, and Kelly sighed. "This Wolf-kin woman has seen some shit," Kelly began, "She is gruff, to say the least, but she is fucking good at her job; don't let anyone tell you differently. She will kick ass, and the reason for her being in the trash heap is," She paused as if to fill the room with anticipation, but I already knew.

"She doesn't take a shit, and someone gave her shit enough that she kicked the wrong person's ass." And Kelly smiled.

"Exactly, She kicked in the teeth and busted the testicles of a boy from the current Federation representative that, God rest that boy's soul for whatever the fuck he was thinking, Tried to rape her," Kelly said, and both Ura and I looked at her dumbstruck.

"What?"

I wasn't sure who asked it, but I was shocked at that statement, and Kelly nodded. "Yup, they thought that their daddy would be enough that she would sit back and take it," Kelly chuckled. "She clearly wasn't about to let that happen, and she destroyed him in seconds. The only reason she is not in jail is because the Federation representative knew that it would be much more public if he did make something of it. He also paid her off to take a vacation, but then also paid us to ensure that she is in the trash heap and that she will not leave the planet to try and mess with her." Kelly shrugged, "Credits do a lot, but at the same time, to use this woman properly, you will need to take her off the planet."

"Set up an interview," I said decisively, "I want to talk to her regardless of whether she joins us or not," I said, and Kelly smiled but got to work.

Then I thought about it. I wasn't sure if it was because of all the recommendations, but I thought she was trying to sell us on this woman instead of the opposite. I would look out for her in the future and maybe have a background check to see deeper.

"Perfect, how about I start showing you some of the other dumpster picks?" Kelly asked. Ura and I nodded with a sigh and leaned back. We started to see some really bland wannabes, to the point we had to start putting in some restrictions when she told us the number was in the tens of thousands. We put in Physical requirements, which offloaded so many that it came down to a hundred names, which we started to sift through and pick out.

By the time we walked out, noting to Kelly that we would see her in two days, we were done.

The moment Ura's head hit the bed, she was out, and I logged out because I needed something more exciting than a massive meeting. My mind felt numb.
