[X784, Phantom Lord guild Building]
— Natsu Dragneel —
Natsu took a whiff into the air and grinned as he picked up a familiar scent. His head whipped to the side as Happy flew beside him.
"I got you, you metal bastard!"
"Wait up, Natsu!" Gray called, but Natsu was already moving.
The two burst into a large, dimly lit room near the heart of the Phantom Lord guild building. Natsu stopped in his steps as he saw the two people standing across from him.
Gajeel's arms were crossed over his chest as crimson eyes narrowed as he caught Natsu's gaze.
Beside him stood a woman with long blue hair, her form wrapped in a dark cloak — Juvia, if Erza's and Lucy's descriptions were right. Her head turned toward Natsu, her eyes widening slightly as recognition flickered across her face.
Gajeel smiled wide, revealing a fanged grin. "I smelled you coming from miles away, Salamander. This has been a long time coming."
Natsu slammed his fist into his palm, matching Gajeel's fanged grin with his own. "Yeah it has, Gajeel! You and I got some personal business to settle!"
"Then I guess I'll fight the water mage," Gray said coolly, shrugging off his shirt. His breath fogged slightly as his magic stirred to life, taking a stance with one hand above his palm. "Happy, find some cover and hide!"
"Aye sir!" The blue cat affirmed as he flew high up into the rafters.
"Let's take 'em!" Natsu shot forward, flames trailing from his fist. "Fire Dragon's Iron Fist!"
Without missing a beat, Gajeel matched his attack with his own, his hand turning to solid steel.
"Iron Dragon's Hard Fist!"
Their punches collided in a deafening clang, sparks flying as fire met steel. A small shockwave rattled the room as dust rained from the ceiling.
Natsu twisted mid-air, flames flaring from his foot as he spun. "Fire Dragon's Talon!"
His burning kick slammed into Gajeel's cheek, sending the iron dragon stumbling back. But Gajeel grinned through the hit, his arm morphing into a jagged iron rod.
"Too slow, Iron Dragon's Hammer!" Gajeel roared, swinging his metal limb like a hammer.
Natsu barely had time to cross his arms before the rod struck his chest. He was rocketed backward, skidding across the floor as Gajeel rubbed his jaw with a crack of his neck.
"Damn it…" Natsu hissed, forcing himself upright just as Gray shouted.
"Ice-Make: Lance!"
A volley of ice spears shot toward Juvia, but she merely stayed put, her body turning to liquid as the ice passed harmlessly through her. She retaliated swiftly.
"Water Nebula!"
A powerful spiral of water shot toward Gray — but Gray sidestepped, and the torrent blasted Natsu instead.
"What the hell?!" Natsu sputtered, coughing up water as he staggered. "Watch where you're aiming!"
"Have some awareness, flame-brain! She wasn't aiming at you!" Gray snapped.
"I'll aim for both of you!" Gajeel cackled as his iron-coated fists punched through the air. Natsu managed to duck, only for Juvia's swirling water to surge around him, knocking him off balance.
"Argh!" Natsu growled, flames erupting from his body that instantly evaporated the water. "I've had enough of this!"
He took a deep breath as a guttural growl exited his mouth. "Fire Dragon's Roar!"
A searing blast of fire tore across the room. Juvia's water rushed forward to meet it, the two elements colliding in a cloud of steam that filled the space.
"Ice-Make: Shield!"
A wall of ice erupted in front of him, just in time to block an iron spike from Gajeel's arm that would have skewered Natsu.
"Stay sharp!" Gray shouted from behind the shield as he formed another set of ice lances and shot them towards Gajeel.
Gajeel's skin hardened into scales of iron, deflecting the ice as if they were pebbles. "You think that's gonna scratch me?" Gajeel claimed, charging forward.
"Fire Dragon's Sword Horn!"
Natsu erupted from the steam, his blazing head colliding with Gajeel's gut, sending the iron dragon sprawling across the floor.
"Got ya, bastard!"
"Water Lock!"
Natsu's moment of triumph was cut short as Juvia's magic engulfed him, trapping him in a swirling sphere of water. Natsu struggled for breath as he immediately heated up his body, the water around him bubbling as they started to boil.
"Hold on!" Gray shouted. "Ice-Make: Hammer!"
The massive hammer crashed into Juvia, whose body exploded into water as she reformed somewhere else. The distraction was enough for Natsu to burn and shatter the water sphere around him.
"Be faster next time!" Natsu gasped, shaking himself dry.
"Maybe if you weren't such a reckless idiot!" Gray shot back.
"You're the idiot!"
"Iron Dragon's Club!"
Gajeel's iron-coated arm lashed out again, but this time Gray intercepted as he caught the blow with an ice-formed bracer. The impact sent cracks splintering through the floor beneath them as Gray stumbled back.
Natsu jumped over Gray as his hand lit ablaze, swiping at Gajeel with a claw-like fist.
"Fire Dragon's Crushing Fang!"
Gajeel was hit straight in the chest, sending his feet skidding back. "Gihihi! You're never gonna get past my iron scales, Salamander! An Iron Dragon is vastly superior to a Fire Dragon!"
"Tch, dammit!"
"They're keeping us off balance." Gray gritted out. "They work too well together. We need to separate them!"
"Fine! How?" Natsu growled.
"I got an idea!" Gray slammed his hands to the ground.
"Ice-Make: Platform!"
The floor beneath Gray and Juvia rose suddenly, forming an angled ramp that shot upward through the ceiling.
"Wha—?!" Juvia yelped as the ice propelled her and Gray upward.
The platform punched through the ceiling with a thunderous crash, carrying Gray and Juvia out of the chamber and into the night sky above.
"Gray!" Natsu shouted.
Gray's voice echoed from above. "I'll take care of her! Don't die down there, Flame Brain!"
"Got it!" Natsu's flames crackled around his fists as he turned toward Gajeel, his eyes burning with renewed determination.
…
— Levy Mcgarden —
"Solid Script Combination: Bullets Barrage!" Levy screamed as a swarm of magical pellets made of pure ethernano were fired towards a cluster of Phantom Lord mages. Shouts of pain and surprise echoed across the battlefield as the opposing mages were knocked back, some crashing to the ground, others barely staying on their feet.
Levy crouched behind a jagged boulder, her chest heaving as sweat trickled down her temple. Solid Script Combination was the next level of her script magic, and using it continuously like this was quickly draining her reserves. She doesn't know how much longer she could last.
"Hold strong!" Mavis's clear, unwavering voice cut through the chaos. "Warren, communicate my orders! Get Wakaba and Macao to reinforce the left flank! Max and Nab are getting overwhelmed!"
Levy peeked out from behind her cover, surveying the field. The battle had already spiraled into full chaos. Magic of all kinds streaked through the air — bursts of elemental magics, flashes of light and thunder, shockwaves of all kinds emanating from different people. Shattered stone and singed earth littered the ground.
Despite being heavily outnumbered, Fairy Tail was holding strong. No, it was more than that. Despite the odds, they were pushing back.
Master Mavis continued spouting orders, standing on a high hill as she utilized the elevated position to get a good view of the battlefield. A single glance from her was all it took for their formations to switch, engaging the Phantom Lord mages with magics that would naturally counter theirs. Warren was beside her, using his Telepathy Magic to act as a liaison between Master Mavis and the rest of the members.
Dannis' wraiths acted as the first line of defense, taking the brunt of enemy forces as they moved with uncanny agility despite being shadow beings. In the years that he had unlocked his curse power, it seems Dannis didn't shy away in getting more souls into his employ.
Levy watched as a group of Lizardmen Wraiths coiled their long tails around enemy legs, dragging them down into the dirt. Giant spiders and werebears wove through the chaos, scattering Phantom Lord's formations and breaking their momentum. Swarms of shadow goblins and vulcans spread around the lake to support any Fairy Tail mage still fighting.
Nearby, Cana shot past Levy, tossing a fan of glittering cards into the air.
"Card Magic: Thunderbolts Fate!"
A dozen cards surged toward a squad of Phantom Lord mages. Bolts of lightning fell down that sent smoke and debris into the air, forcing them to scatter.
"Hey, Levy!" Cana grinned, skidding to a stop next to her, sweat glistening on her brow. "Don't let me have all the fun!"
"I'm trying!" Levy said breathlessly, forcing herself to stand. "But there's a lot of them!"
"Yeah, but we've got Mira." Cana's grin widened.
A small laugh came out of Levy's throat. True enough, her gaze darted toward the center of the battlefield — where Mirajane Strauss fought by her lonesome.
Even with Master Mavis acting as their strategist. Even with Dannis' wraiths wreaking havoc, the one true reason that they hadn't gotten overwhelmed was due to a single mage. It was simply because Mira was here.
The usually perpetually smiling barmaid was nowhere in sight as Mira proved to the world why she was called the She-Devil of Fairy Tail.
A single swipe of her hand had wiped clusters of Jose's shades as massive beams of magic were ejected from her hand. A second swipe and a massive column of violet energy burst from her fingertips, vaporizing a cluster of Phantom Lord mages in an instant. Screams of panic followed as survivors scrambled backward, only for Mira to flash-step directly in front of them.
"Going somewhere?" she purred.
Her palm met the ground.
"Force Palm!"
A wave of sound energy erupted from her hand, wrapping around the Phantom mages. They screamed as the wave passed through them, and then fell still.
"Mira's strong as always…" Levy whispered with a wistful sigh.
She had single handedly taken on the majority of Phantom Lord's most powerful mages, which consisted over fifty of their A-Class mages. And yet she didn't flinch as she met them head on.
Levy watched as Mira fought and fought, bringing them down a plenty. It was during this moment that she found herself surrounded by over twenty of them.
"Today's the day you die, She-Devil!"
Explosions of fire, wind, and darkness surged toward her in a deadly barrage as all twenty mages released their magic in unison. A deafening explosion rocked the battlefield as the combined spells collided, swallowing Mirajane in a cloud of smoke and dust.
"Mira-nee!" Lisanna's panicked scream shot through the battlefield.
Levy widened her eyes as she immediately activated her magic. "Solid Script: FLY!" A pair of golden wings made up of the words 'fly' appeared on her back as she shot into the air, racing towards the blast zone.
She could see Elfman rushing towards Mira in his humongous beast form, completely ignoring all attacks that merely bounced over his skin.
But before they could, a haunting melody appeared that echoed throughout the field. It sang an eerie lullaby, and Levy could feel the dread that encompassed it. Purple light pulsed through the smoke — three glowing points like the eyes of a demon.
The melody crescendoed — and the Phantom Lord mages surrounding the blast zone suddenly seized up. They convulsed once — then dropped unceremoniously to the ground.
When the smoke cleared, Mira was shown with a few scuff marks, but otherwise unharmed. The points of light, which originated from the three eyed crown on her head, dimmed as the melody disappeared.
Levy dropped to the ground beside Mira. "Was that..?"
"Yep. I mastered it enough to only affect people in a certain radius around me, and not everyone who hears the melody." She smiled. "I should be ready for all the tests you and Master Mavis want me to do."
"Damn." Levy looked at the bodies of the Phantom Lord mages. "That's scary."
Mira's smile widened. "I know."
"Mira-nee!" Elfman's large figure slammed down beside them, cracking the stone beneath his feet. "Are you okay?!"
"I'm fine, Elfman. Now focus, we're not done yet."
An earth-shaking BOOM shattered the moment.
Levy's head snapped up. On the far end of the battlefield, the high hill where Mavis had stood just moments ago was now gone — reduced to rubble. A massive crater smoldered where it once stood.
"MASTER MAVIS!" Macao's panicked voice echoed through the battlefield.
"Warren!" Loke, who held a Phantom mage by the shirt, screamed out.
"Levy, look!" Mira's sharp voice snapped her out of her daze.
Levy's eyes widened as she followed Mira's line of sight, her gaze darted toward the skyline. High above, beyond the ruined battlefield, she spotted a single figure standing in the air as if it was solid. His cloak billowed behind him as his face remained shrouded beneath a deep hood.
"Mystogan…" Levy whispered.
Beside him was Master Mavis' floating figure as Warren hung on his back like a bag, one hand holding his temple. 'That's right. Master Mavis is a spirit. She can't be hurt by unconventional means.'
A pulse of magic spread through the air. She saw Mystogan hold his staff high.
The battlefield fell quiet.
And then — Mystogan's staff descended.

AN: I always enjoyed team up battles. Natsu and Gray vs Gajeel and Juvia was pretty fun to write, though I'm unsure how good it ended up. At this point, Gajeel and Juvia had better chemistry and more experience working together since Natsu and Gray hadn't formed team Natsu yet.
Mira shows the first ability that the Lullaby transformation could give her, and before people ask, I already mentioned hundreds of chapters ago that I'm taking the no killing part of Fairy Tail away for this fic.
Consider it an AU if you want, but living in a world as dangerous as theirs, especially considering they're currently at war, no one would hesitate to kill others if it means protecting their comrades.
As they see it, Jose started it by threatening to kill the civilians of Magnolia with the Jupiter Cannon.
I hope you enjoyed the chapter.
Cheers lads.
