Chapter 01
Ding!
Goes the bell as I stood in front of the door waitingfor it to be opened. A young fully shaped and average height looking lady opened the door.
"Good day sir and how may I help you." she said.
"Are you mad!?, You stand there asking me how you can help me in my own house?... you must be kidding me" I said angrily.
"I'm sorry sir I didn't know." She said.
"Well now you do." I responded.
"Where is my son?" I added.
"I think he's playing up stairs, sir." She said
"You think!" I said angrily, glaring at her.
I went up the stairs to Mason's room and found lying on the door helplessly struggling with his breathing. I was in total shock to see Mason lying helplessly on the floor. I picked him up and I rushed straight to the car.
"Oh my… What happened sir?" The maid asked.
"Don't ask me stupid questions now, just get my car keys on the table!" I yelled.
I got the keys, layed Mason at the back seat and drove off as fast as I could.
"Don't worry, Ok, everything will be fine." I said, taking a quick glance at my son's head straight to the nearest hospital.
Fifteen minutes had passed and after a quick second we reached a traffic jam.
"No no no… not today!" I said in a sad expression.
What am I going to do now? The hospital is still half a mile from here." I said, honking and hitting my head on the steering wheel.
I looked around and found a road in the woods by the roadside, one that looked very familiar to the one I used to follow to school during my teen years.
"Maybe that road will get the tickets to the hospital quicker." I thought.
Without any hesitation I came out of the car and took Mason out also. Carrying him in my arms, I passed through the traffic jam to the woods.
I continued my journey to the hospital on foot as fast as I could see. Mason had already passed out minutes ago and so this got me scared to the core.
I ran and ran through the bushes until I finally saw the end part of the road as I sighed in exhaustion. Mason began to struggle again. I began to panic thinking the worst.
I continued to run until I saw the hospital gate, then I began to yell for the nurses. Three nurses came running with a bed as they took him from my arms and laid him on the bed pushing him to the patient warde.
I stood reminiscing about all that had happened and fear filled up my body.I began to pray that my son will be alright. After a while the doctor came. I was so glad he finally came out.
Doc, What happened to my son?.How's he now?, trust he's better now right?How soon can he be discharged?" I asked hastily.
"Calm down sir, according to the tests we ran on him we discovered that your son has chest cancer and he will need to undergo surgery immediately" the doctor said.
I felt my world crashing down as I heard the doctor's words.
"Ok then doctor Carry on doing the surgery." I said in tears.
"Unfortunately I can't do that,'' the doctor responded.
"Why doctor..?" I asked.
"His treatment costs $300,000 but a down payment of at least $150,000 before I can perform any kind of treatment on your son".
I stood speechless, thinking of what to do, then it hit me, my savings had reached $350,000 already meaning I could pay the hospital bills.
"Doctor, start the operation please. I beg you, I'm going home right now to get the payment in full." I said as I hurriedly ran back home.
On Reaching home I rushed straight to my room scattering through the cupboard.
I remembered I had kept it in the wardrobe. I searched and found the envelope in which the money was empty. Heading down stairs I saw my wife Celine she was about saying something when I asked.
"Where is the money!?" I yelled.
"Calm down daddy…" she said.
"I said, where is the money Celine?! I yelled in anger.
I could tell she got a little frightened from the tune of my voice but I couldn't care less, all I could think of was my son and getting the money for his treatment.
"I know I didn't tell you but my car needed some upgrading and so I used the money to get a new car.
isn't she beautiful…" she said, looking at the car and smiling.
"You used $350,000 to buy a car!" I said furiously and without thinking, I gave her a very tight slap and angry tears began to roll down from my eyes.
"You used $350,000 to buy a car,Celine…your son is in the hospital fighting for his life and you just used the money I was going to use to get a car" I said crying profusely.
"Edward, you slapped me," She said, holding her left cheek. I turned the other way without altering a word.
"What will I do now, what can I do"I thought
"I want a divorce" Celine said.
I responded saying "Celine I don't have time for your dramas so please" said walking away.
"Doctor, have you started the operation??"
I asked.
"Where is your son's down payment sir?" the doctor asked.
"Doctor, I will bring it so just start his operation already!" I said in tears.
"That's against our hospital policy which I had told you earlier you said you were going to get the full amount so what now?!" the doctor asked.
"Doctor I couldn't get the money but please help me doctor please!" I went on my knees crying to him.
"Am sorry sir but it's not in my power to do so and like I said before it's against the hospital policy" doctor said.
Chapter 02
The emergency lights begin to flash and Nurses running towards the room my son was laid in. Doctor what's happening to my son I asked as I followed the doctor hurrying to Mason's room.
He shut the door from the inside so I couldn't get in. From a small space in the door I watched as my son fought for his life gasping for air and all I could do was tear up and watch.
As time passed I felt as though I was about to lose something precious but wasn't going to die. As I continued to look through the door space, a large explosion occurred which led to total black out in the hospital.
