Chapter 1 - Prologue

In the Northern continent, monsters and magical beasts ran rampant, making it difficult for human life to prosper. Thankfully, the rise of [Adepts] over the past couple thousands of years made it possible.

Gifted with the talent to manipulate adept elemental particles, Adepts were beings capable of casting spells, modify their body past their natural limits, and, of course, capable of defeating foes that were previously thought impossible to beat in normal circumstances. Driven by the thirst of knowledge, many Adept families and organizations rose and fell.

The [Steelguard] Adept family was one such family. With a single Adept leading the family under the position of [Supreme Elder], the Steelguards were well-implemented in the North of the Northern Continent. With more than 26 noble territories in the Phuinem Empire, it was ranked 236th in the Northern Continent Ranking of Adept organizations.

Its long-lasting history allowed its members to have access to an incredible stove of knowledge, stored within its ancestral Adept Fortress. With runic walls towering the ground from dozens of meteres and adept towers that possessed arrays to summon adept-level titans, its ancestral adept fortress was known to be impregnable.

In one of the many meditation rooms offered to its members, a young acolyte was training his spiritual powers.

Indeed, becoming an adept required immense training and talent, as well as resources. Before becoming adepts, the people walking the path of magic would all without an exception become acolytes first. Although they possessed much lower strength, it was all part of the process to reach the well-renowned realm of adept.

Greem Steelguard was one such acolyte. A beginner-rank acolyte, even. Though it was the lowest rank for acolytes, he was well-respected as an heir. As the 3rd grandson of Elder Nocturne, he possessed backing. He had grade 3 talent as well, which was well above-average. Given ample training and resources, he had hopes of becoming a pseudo-adept, or even an adept.
