A day after the wedding, before dinner, Madeline was summoned to her Father's study. Of course, she didn't know what it was that made him call for her.
Bowing to the man that was seated behind his desk, scribbling on a scroll, she spoke:
"I heard you called for me, Father."
"Have a seat." Lord Uriel nodded at the seat in front of him. He didn't take his eyes of his scroll, and the vibe he seemed to be giving off was distant.
Madeline sighed and took her seat. She crossed her hands on her chest while biting her lips. For some reason, she could tell that her father didn't call her for anything good.
Things had not been pleasant ever since her youngest cousin's coronation happened. It had been jinx upon jinx in her own life.
"How long do you intend to stay here with your husband?" Lord Uriel asked without taking his eyes off the scroll. He sounded nonchalant about the matter, but deep down he cared.
