Saffron PoV
I sighed as I finished cleaning up the field. Uncle had to tell me and Jason off for using the field without permission. Although, in typical fashion, he made sure to go easy on me. He even laughed as soon as Jason had left and told me good job for standing up against the guy.
"Hey, Saffron!" a voice called out. I looked up from my papers and saw a white haired girl with bright green eyes.
"Mariah?" I said, surprised to see her here. She was an old childhood friend of mine. One of the only friends I ever had. Sadly, she had to move around a lot because of her dad's work in the army.
"Wow, it's been ages! I didn't think I'd see you here!" she exclaimed, her face lighting up with excitement.
"Yeah, it's been a while," I admitted, a smile breaking across my face. "What brings you here?"
"I was stationed here," she said.
"Wait, you joined the marines too?"
"Well, yeah. I wanted to join the armed forces like my dad."
"Why the marines and not the army."
