Chapter 5 - Last Mission Went Wrong

*********

He wanted to roll his eyes because of the system's obliviousness. This system differs from others because for some reason, this one is a sentient with an ego, that often times would be mistaken as a person because of its uniqueness.

Although this system speaks in a more robotic voice like those in Roodle, he can tell that this system can perceive human emotions, although it's just a bit dense sometimes.

As for this current world, it's clear that the plot had already collapsed and was no longer bound by the world's control because of his interference, as a dimensional traveler and outside of this plane.

Also, this is normal for him to encounter some problems during his world-hopping journey.

At first, when he started as a novice dimensional traveler, he panicked at the moment when he received his task for the first time, and he didn't understand anything about this whole world-hopping journey.

However, he was, at least, thankful to his system companion who guided him on his first task and also, the system that was assigned to him was considerate to place him in a tutorial world for him to be familiarized from everything step by step.

He thought from before that he might have accidentally made a deal with a demon and that he would regret it because, back in his original world, he was a very cautious individual and never trusted anyone because of his traumatic experiences.

His thoughts were cut off when he noticed the presence of someone approaching his direction and heard the system's robotic voice once more.

« Esteemed host, he's here. Please be careful as this system notices something is different from him… »

He sighed and groaned in annoyance; 'For the millennium times, SILVER, addressed me by my name and no need to be so formal!'

When he noticed before that the [system] who was guiding him is a sentient one compared to the other normal [systems] back at the Main House System, he felt guilty for just addressing this fellow as [system] so, he gave his [system] a name at least.

« But esteemed host, Silver couldn't do that, as Silver needs to maintain a level of professionalism for someone as esteemed as the host… »

He almost spurt out blood from his mouth at the amount of nonsense his system companion was saying right now.

'Level of professionalism, my a**! Just where the heck did Silver learn that phrase, anyway?!'

He groaned because no matter what he did, Silver wouldn't back down on its own principles, and sometimes he couldn't help but chuckled because of this.

How he wished that his system companion would materialize as a human and, for sure, Silver would be the only person he would place his trust in because he knew that Silver won't betray him.

But that was only his wishful thinking, and he knew that it won't happen.

« Esteemed host, prepare yourself to confront the protagonist. Please be careful. Call Silver if you need further assistance… »

Silver's warning about the protagonist caught his attention, as he encountered many protagonists during his world-hopping journey, and some weren't as described in Silver's system archive.

He didn't move from where he sat and wait for the appearance of the protagonist and after a minute had passed, a familiar presence appeared behind his back but still, didn't move from where he seated as he waited for the protagonist to make a move or trying to sense his surroundings using his third insight.

"This lowly mortal, Xiao Zixin, greets the Immortal Master Shen Haoran."

Upon being addressed by the youth, the Immortal Master finally opened his eyes, stood up and faced the youth who addressed him with such reverence.

He observed how the young man respectfully bowed in front of him with both hands clasped together.

He didn't speak for a minute as he observed the youth in front of him and he didn't need to use his other special skills to check what was wrong with this protagonist because, with one look, he could tell already.

'Now what?'

According to the system's plot that was provided for this worldline, the story centers on the usual family drama, conspiracy, political intrigues and, of course, revenge.

The setting of the world is the usual ancient era with the elements of [xianxia] but he find it odd because the center of the story landed on a secular world but there are mentions of immortality and immortal masters that roam around within the secular world.

'Another troublesome plot, it seems.'

This is not the first time that he encountered a complicated plot, and he bet that this world has a hidden plot as well. Which gives him a headache for it.

'Not that I have a choice to complain here… Argh!'

As for the worldline's protagonist, Xiao Zixin, who came from a prominent Prime Minister Xiao Household of the Imperial Capital of the Northern Xia Empire.

Xiao Zixin was born as the second son of the principal wife, Madam Xiao, and became the second young master of the household.

"No need to bow. Rise."

With his permission, Xiao Zixin stood up straight and looked up at Shen Haoran with a smile on his face, as if he was delighted to see the Immortal Master he respected.

However, in Shen Haoran's mind, that is not the case then.

This protagonist, Xiao Zixin, differs from the other protagonists that he had encountered during his world-hopping journey.

'Yes. Way too different. That makes me to be wary for some reason that I couldn't understand where to start at first.'

When he first transmigrated to this body and took over the identity of Shen Haoran, he didn't receive the original owner's memories immediately and this is the first time in his life as a dimensional traveler this happened.
