Kevin Cliff watched as the bathroom door closed before him; it seemed he even heard the sound of a lock clicking. Was it really necessary to be so insistent on privacy? And with just a little kid at that?
The housekeeper had been thoroughly vetted; he was squeaky clean. The possibility that he might bully Chris was out of the question—it would be quite the achievement if he managed not to be bullied by Chris instead. Thus, Kevin could only interpret this door-locking behavior as a preoccupation with privacy.
After a dozen or so minutes, Chris came out wearing the little bathrobe that had been prepared for him earlier. Kevin Cliff put away his wallet and went over to pick him up, "Bedtime, right away!"
"Uh, wait a minute," the housekeeper timidly piped up again.
Kevin Cliff turned around, his expression once again that of 'you haven't left yet', this time tinged with impatience.
