I arrived first into the field along with Rin and another boy with greenish skin. The two of them changed clothes fast and I wondered whether it had something to do with being a martial artist in Rin's case.
There reason why we arrived first had something to do with the somewhat awkward air we left behind in the changing room, with some of the boys being surprised I was a guy --Didn't they notice that I was wearing the boy's uniform?-- and was weirded out by it. Though I did enjoy their reactions.
Some of the girls were also surprised when I told them about it when they asked where I was when they changed. I also enjoyed their reactions.
Honestly, the only people that weren't surprised was Manga and Shishida, the latter apparently knowing the difference in scent between sexes.
Kan-sensei waited for all the other students to arrive before he addressed us. "Now, as I've mentioned earlier, we are going to have a quirk assessment test. It is similar to a physical assessment test during your middle school years with the only difference is that you will be using your quirks in tandem with it."
"Are we going to be marked for it?" Some asked with their hand raised.
"No. You aren't." Kan-sensei denied. "This test is simply to see where you all stand. The entrance exams you took where good, but it helps immensely to have a more thorough look through a series of uniform tests." His expression turned serious. "However, do not take this lightly. This is an important step and is much a part of your training as any other. But to ensure that you all do your absolute best, whoever scores the overall lowest will be on cleaning duty till the end of the week. Is that clear?"
"Yes, Kan-sensei!" They chorused.
"Good. Now let's start on the 50m dash."
Everyone was called up in pairs to participate. The fastest person to complete it was Tokage, who took off her upper half in tiny pieces and flying them ahead off of each other like a rocket lauch. The boy with pitch-black skin that talked to me last night hitched a ride on Pony's shadow, who appeared to be a bit inexperienced with flying on her own horns.
Other outliners include the boy with no lips deciding to swim on land rather than running, which I inwardly questioned why because running would have been faster as air offers less resistance than soft land. And Monoma, who not only copied Tokage's quirk but also her strategy, although albeit clumsily due to lack of experience with it andwas a bit rude, considering he didn't ask for permission to do any of that but maybe he was going after the shock value or something? He's already laughing together with Tokage so maybe it's alright?
When it was my turn, I debated on flying and just be done with it. That's when I figured that it was a good chance as any to see on how fast my body actually is.
The result was that it took me about four and a half seconds to cross the distance.
The next ordeal was a grip strength test, to which I floundered. I admit that I wasn't the physically strongest but my results were undoubtedly on the lower half of the class spectrum.
Notable instances were Shishida, who appeared to be the physically strongest in class, only having secured fourth place. Honenuki used his quirk to turn the device into a puddle and proceeded to break it, putting him at the top spot along with Monoma who did the same thing with the only difference this time was that he did ask for permission. Second place goes to another girl who turned the device's handle bigger and using her entire boy to weight it down. Third place goes to the Christian girl who wrapped the device in multiple vines and slowly crushed it.
Up next was the standing long jump. Still a bit embarrassed by my previous result, I decided to just fly straight to the other side of the sand pit. Tokage also flew, as well as Monoma again though still clumsy. The only other outliners this time was a guy who created platforms of air and ran across as well as Yanagi who appeared to be straining to carry herself using her quirk but ultimately made it as well. Though, the Christian girl tried to throw herself using her vines, since it's still her hair, they just weighed her down and she was fast enough to cut it off and keep the momentum.
Repeated side steps was a bit disorientating so I removed myself from my body about halfway through. I didn't break any records since it was timed, but I was glad that I kept up a steady pace.
Not many people could have outdone Tokage, who admitted she took inspiration from me and detached her hands and feet and repeatedly had them go side to side while the rest of her torso and limbs are just chilling.
Monoma didn't copy her quirk this time, or anyone else's. He instead opted to simply do it himself.
Then came the ball throw where plenty of people did well.
Tokage separated her hand and from her body --That is a really versatile quirk-- and sent it flying as far as she could before throwing it. The Christian girl threw her by using her vines similar to an old slingshot. Yanagi copied Tokage by flying it out first before throwing it. Shishida and Kendo did well using pure physical might. Pony got a decent distance by balancing the ball on her horns before it fell off by accident. Another boy also did well by spinning his arm really fast and throwing it like some mini catapult. And Manga got pretty far by yelling out explosions or sonic booms before the distance got too much. Let's not mention Monoma, I wasn't paying attention when he came up but he probably just copied someone again anyway.
As for me, I just sent a few heads on a game of hot potato over the distance. The potato being the ball and they throw it using lasers.
Distance run was where plenty of people tapped out early. Although there were those that had decent stamina, --mainly Pony-- the only ones who made it until the end of the five kilometres (3.1miles) were Shishida, Tetsutetsu, Kendo, Rin, Tokage and me. Although, me and Tokage technically cheated by flying when we got tired of running.
Seated toe-touch, I guess being flexible was expected of me since my battle focus was not getting hit in the first place. No one really bothered to use their quirks here except for Tokage, not even Monoma bothered to copy anyone else's quirk to do it.
There were a few other miscellaneous tests but I was already on autopilot and stopped bothering with noticing most of it.

"I'm proud of all of you." Declared Vlad King Proudly as he held up the hologram. "Now, for those that who did not perform as well as they expected, remember that this is only an assessment test. This is only the very beginning of your path towards becoming a hero and that you shouldn't let today's results dishearten you." He slowly panned his glance over the entire class. "You should take today as an incentive to become stronger. To become better than you are now. And as for those that performed well, I say the same to all of you. Remember that just because you did well today doesn't mean you can slack off, otherwise you will find yourself overtaken. Do all of you understand?"
A chorus of "Yes-sensei!" Rang out.
"Good." Vlad King nodded in approval. "Alright, class dismissed. Go change back and have your lunch, after that you will be having your orientation with your other classes before you can retire for the day. Remember to eat a good meal for dinner because tomorrow is your first heroics class just after 1-A!"
With their teacher now gone, the class splintered off into small groups as they headed for the same direction.
Kizuki speedwalked ahead of everyone, still on autopilot.
Tokage walked closer to Monoma and asked "So, is my quirk your favourite or what?" This caused the others near her to perk their ears, listening in.
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"Well, you've copied my quirk for the most part of the tests even though the other guys have stronger quirks. Like Red- I mean, Shuzenji for example."
"True, your words hold weight." He agreed. "Your quirk is versatile, you see, and you seem friendly enough to let me borrow it. And as for the redhead... He gives off an air that is hard to approach, I suppose?"
"Who? Red? Nah, I'm telling ya, the guy's a softie... Probably." She averted her gaze, unsure of her own words.
"Are you kidding? He looks just about ready to kick the next guy that talks to him. Have you seen those eyes?!" A boy with a bandana, Awase, interjected. "I saw him the other day and I swear he was glaring at us from the kitchen." The boy's gaze reminded him of his own mother, switching between stern and a cold fury.
"You shouldn't be speaking ill of our fellow classmate." A somewhat deep and polite voice made Awase Jump in suprise. Shishida continued speaking. "Even if you are frightened by his expressions, it is unbecoming of an hero student to talk behind other's back."
"I get that you have a point, but it doesn't change the fact that he looks like an inch away from killing someone!" The first time he felt Kizuki's eyes, a shiver went down his spine, not like he'll tell anyone that part.
"You say that now but you were the one that ate thirds whenever he cooked." Teased Tokage, remembering how the Awase has briefly forgotten the barest decency and ate like a pig.
Awase mentally blue screened from that Information. He had initially thought that it was one of the cute girls that made it from how good it was and he is now having difficulty connecting the delicious meals with the image of Kizuki.
"I think I broke him..." Tokage waved a hand Infront of his face before she shrugged and continued walking.
"Well, you all certainly made him sound like quite a character." Said Monoma, who's now curious about the boy. "Are there anything else I should be aware of?"
"Well, I know he was holding out during the assessment." Said Tokage as she mentally compared Kizuki's speed to the one in her memory. "He was flying really fast in the recommendation exams, nothing like what he showed today."
Shishida raised his hand, not letting his inner discomfort show, and added. "He also drinks alcohol." The fact irked him, but after their conversation, he has looked up the legitimacy of his paperwork. Much to his disbelief, they were genuine.
This surprised the other two, Awase who just caught up, and anyone else that was eavesdropping.
"Wait, what the f- but isn't that illegal?!" Exclaimed Awase.
"It is." Shishida nodded. "However, apparently there is a sort of permit that granted him legal right to do so, along with a licence to create his own brew."
"That's a thing?" Tokage was skeptical about that claim since she never heard about something like that before.
"Of course it's a thing, moron." One of those eavesdropping, Kamakiri, butted in. "I got one of them permits too. You need three referrals to vouch for ya, as well as a good reason why." The mantis-like teen was a member of a sake-brewing family from his maternal side, and as one of the heirs, he been tasting alcohol since he started middle school.
He knows how difficult it is to get a permit to drink before coming of age, let alone a licence to make alcohol. But rather than elaborate further, he simply walked ahead while mentally taking note of Kizuki, debating on whether he can be a good drinking buddy.
The people that heard what he said were left behind to process his words. When he was already far ahead, Tokage snapped back. "Wait, what do- drat. He's already gone. Why is it always the quiet ones with the most obscure lore." She turned to the pale-silver haired girl, Yanagi, who was just a little to her side. "So, got any secrets we should know about?"
The single eye peeking out of her hair glanced at Tokage with a dull, half-lidden gaze. "...Yes." She said with a dry tone.
"..." Tokage waited, expecting a continuation. When she was met with silence, she asked; "Okay...? And what is it?"
Yanagi, not even bothering to look at her, simply replied with "...A secret."
Someone snorted at the pallid girl's response.
"You walked right into that one, Tokage." Awase patted the girl at the back.
"I did, didn't I?"
Yui, the eavesdropper that snorted back a laugh, is closely following behind Yanagi. She has a feeling that she'll get along with the girl.
Shortly afterwards, they arrived at the changing rooms and returned back to their uniforms.
