As for the discrepancies between his actual appearance and the way he's depicted in future generations' statues and paintings, that too can be understood. People honor those in high positions, so even if his face were covered in sores, who would dare to depict every single detail with a chisel?
Besides, the Immortal Venerable isn't some acne-ridden, speckled face, or a bizarre creature with a purple beard, green eyes, dragon's nose, and crocodile's mouth. Look closely; it's still a human face, just a bit of airbrushing, line smoothing, and chin sculpting has been done – round up and it's still the same features.
