The Intergalactic Federation has a remote village where residents like to hibernate every other year.
Upon the Federation's completion of its first full year, they hibernated; by that time, more than half of the over three thousand members had become mid-level extraordinaries, they built two portals to the big cities, and had just constructed smooth roads between each settlement.
Every household had bicycles, tricycles, and simple magic-driven cars made from special materials, as well as air-conditioned washing machines; they felt their lives were like a dream.
After waking up from a year of hibernation, they found the world had changed.
Looking up at the sky, they could see a huge celestial body, faintly discernible were its mountains, canyons, and a city web-like. There was a space fleet flying back and forth between this celestial body and the ground below.
