Jocelyn Griffin acted as if nothing had happened. She greeted everyone and then sat down next to Ann Chapman, who wore an expression of someone who was happily anticipating a spectacle, glancing at Jocelyn and then at Amelia Clarke and Owen Moreland.
Owen's expression was indifferent, as though he hadn't seen Jocelyn. Amelia's smile was quiet, and she called out, "Ms. Griffin," with a cool and distant air.
Seeing Amelia's nonchalant demeanor, Ann sighed.
If it had been any other girl, they certainly wouldn't have had a pleasant face to show Jocelyn, but Amelia, this young girl, actually managed to handle it so calmly, she was so sensible it was almost uninteresting.
Adam Wilson and Emily Williams arrived just in time. Upon seeing them, Ann immediately switched targets, teasing, "It's your own Charity Night, and you're actually late." She lifted her wrist to check the time, then pointed to her watch and told Adam, "Look for yourself, three seconds late."
