Samuel Johnson lit a cigarette and leaned back on the couch. Ever since he had received the news, he hadn't shown much emotional change.
At last, he smiled and said, "Leukemia, huh? I thought I would get lung cancer first."
He had been smoking heavily over the years.
The doctor maintained his composure thanks to his good upbringing, snatched the cigarette from Samuel's hand, and said sternly, "No smoking is allowed in the office. And you shouldn't be smoking right now either."
Samuel was not annoyed when his cigarette was taken away. He looked out the window with his deep eyes. On the hospital pathway, a foreign mother and daughter walked by; the little girl, lively and cute with golden hair tied with a bow, wearing a floral dress, looked up as they passed underneath and caught his eye, then sweetly smiled.
Samuel smiled too.
