Boss Zeng's older brother lived in the family members' yard, not in some remote area. The assault took place at an intersection and was witnessed by quite a few people, although it was at night and most people coming and going from work were afraid of getting involved. Only some people secretly called the police from a distance, and later someone helped by calling an ambulance.
These bystanders didn't know the identity of the parties involved in the fight, nor did they hear what the assailant said—they all watched from afar. There were three individuals involved, and Boss Zeng and his bodyguard appeared to have the physical advantage, so even though they were constantly getting beaten, others still perceived it as a fight, not an assault as Boss Zeng had claimed.
