Chapter 2 - Zombies
'Zombies!' He thought as he stared into the distance to see two green humanoid figures walking towards him.
Not only were there zombies there's also a vein of iron near them.
"I'll need that iron, so let's dance!" He said, the stone sword quickly materialized into his hand.
'Zombies weren't fast, they're pretty slow and easy to kill, in the game at least. Though I barely have any combat experience outside of a controlled environment so I doubt I could as easily dispatch them.' He thought, he calmed himself down to launch the first strike.
A quick horizontal slash went across the first zombie's face and it began to glow red for a second.
'Oh, the same as the game, when damaged most entities would glow red for a while before returning to normal.' He thought as he carefully watched his own steps to avoid falling to his death.
While he was dancing around the clumsy zombies that bumped into each other, he managed to strike the final blow on the first zombie.
The zombie's body began to glow red and fall flat on the ground lifeless, and it began to disappear into a white smoke.
'Two more left.' He thought, his hand tightened around the sword.
He launched a sweeping attack that damaged both of the remaining zombies.
In no time, he managed to kill the zombies with minimal effort and was unharmed.
'I won and it seems that the Herobrine skin was purely aesthetic.' He thought as he felt a hint of disappointment as a strange noise echoed inside his head.
[Ding!]
[You have killed a hostile mob, [Zombie]: +10 Points +1 Kill Points.]
[You have killed a hostile mob, [Zombie]: +10 Points +1 Kill Points.]
[You have killed a hostile mob, [Zombie]: +10 Points +1 Kill Points.]
'What does this mean? Points? Kill Points? It seems that something is going on, am I forgetting something important?' He thought as another noise echoed in his mind.
[Ding!]
[Taming progress for the mob, [Zombie]: 3/1,000.]
'Taming? Is it the same concept as taming a wolf or a cat? And it seems to increase through killing them.' He thought as he was quite surprised at this revelation.
It seems that there's something more to his situation than he initially thought.
[Ding!]
[Detected that a Minecraft World has been taken control and used as a game, Host had been given authorization to enter and leave the World freely.]
[New Feature Confirmed—Acquiring the [Instant Travel] feature.]
[New Destination Confirmed—Registered the [Minecraft: New World] as a new destination.]
"This is…" He was speechless.
At first he thought it was a simple transmigration into the world of Minecraft but then at this moment everything shattered and reformed into a new vision.
Vincent had always been fond of challenges in games, though this has become his new reality, he couldn't help but feel excited as if a new feature that he has been waiting for in his favorite game, finally dropped.
'A game… doesn't that mean there's other players? Well, I don't think I count as a player anymore, I'm more of an NPC now. No, I am literally an NPC, right?' He thought as he began to observe his surroundings and found no mobs which was a relief.
He materialized his stone pickaxe into his hand and began to mine the iron vein.
He managed to get 9 raw iron.
'I'm thinking about having the 5 iron ingot used to create Blast Furnace to make smelting ores faster, the leftover 4 iron should probably be used for a bucket, I'm not that confident in traversing this cave without taking significant fall damage, so a water bucket will probably save my life.' He thought as he lit up the area he was fighting at.
He placed a furnace and a crafting table next to each other and then he calmly sat down.
While waiting for his iron to finish smelting, he grabbed a piece of delicious cooked mutton.
It was a tender and flavorful cut of meat, its rich and roasted surface was packed with the smoky and savory goodness.
He finally took a bite, it was juicy and filled him with satisfaction, with its deep, hearty taste that fills his body with warmth that soothes the tiredness of his soul.
'Amazing, I wonder what other food tastes like if the cooked mutton and beef already taste like a step towards heaven?' He thought as he savored all the taste of the meat.
He had already finished eating and quickly checked the furnace.
All the raw iron was smelted.
He quickly goes to his crafting table.
The crafting table was a 3x3 crafting grid.
He placed 3 iron ingots on all slots of the top row, 2 iron ingots on the left and right slots of the middle row, 1 furnace on the middle slot of the middle row and 3 smooth stones on all slots of the bottom row.
He managed to craft a Blast Furnace.
With the remaining 4 iron ingots, he took three of them to craft a bucket, while the last iron ingot was used to create shield.
He quickly grabbed water from a nearby water source that he passed through, now he was fairly safe to explore the underground.
After walking around for a few minutes he found a vast hole on the ground that was an entrance to a bigger cave.
'Even in the game, I know they're undoubtedly massive but seeing them in real life might give me Acrophobia.' He thought, and the distance between him and the ground was definitely more than a hundred blocks.
"I'm not confident in doing MLG, and there's the source of the sound—!" He dodged to the side as he turned his body to look at the mobs.
It was two skeletons and one creeper.
'I've been hearing skeleton noises for a while now, it seems that they managed to find out about my whereabouts, pretty impressive.' He thought as he was struck by an arrow on his thigh.
"Kuh, it doesn't leave a lasting damage but it still does somewhat hurt, though the sensation isn't pain but something similar." He muttered as he walked towards the creeper.
It was simple, he just had to dodged or endure the arrows until he killed the creeper.
One thing he managed to learn from fighting was that he doesn't need to follow the cooldown rule as his attack speed depends on his own swings.
In an instant, he managed to land the last strike on the creeper that turned it into a white smoke and dropped gunpowder.
'Shit, I should learn how to fight while blocking in the future, this isn't working out, I look like a hedgehog right now.' He thought as he materialized a shield on his off-hand and blocked the volley of arrows coming towards him.
'I'm still not used to fighting with shields, probably because I haven't fought much in my life until this point.' He thought.
After multiple failed attempts at timing his attack with the skeletons, he managed to land critical attacks on both of them regularly that made them die in only two hits.
[Ding!]
[You have killed a hostile mob, [Creeper]: +15 Points +1 Kill Points.]
[You have killed a hostile mob, [Skeleton]: +15 Points +1 Kill Points.]
[You have killed a hostile mob, [Skeleton]: +15 Points +1 Kill Points.]
'I still have no clue about the purpose of these points but they must be important.' He thought as he slowly descended into the depths of the cave.
