Episode(1): The day that changed everything
SOVEREIGN OF DEATH~(1)
The day that changed everything~ (1)
The day was sunny, especially hot. Especially since it was summer the heat felt like torture.
Birds chirped sweet tunes, while cicadas gave their signature annoyingly high pitched buzzing.
School was in session, it was now lunch for first years.
In building A, class 1-A for the relatively smart kids was bustling having been free from the hell of working in the heat.
At the very back of the class, a boy sat and stared at the outside world through the window.
That boy was none other than me, Kanata Nagisa.
Peering out the window, the outside world felt like a different world compared to the noisy classroom.
His expression was detached, and his expression calm.
And even in the rowdy classroom, no one noticed him sitting alone in the back as if he didn't even exist.
Well, no one could fault them.
I wore nerdy glassy and my bangs covered my eyes, not to mention my aura screaming 'don't get too close'.
No one wanted anything to do with such a gloomy loser.
Yes, everyone ignored him because of his behavior.
But so what? He was happy with the current situation.
Being left alone didn't bother him at all, on the contrary it made things easier.
With my identity, mingling with these guys would be too difficult of a task.
Yes, he had another identity aside from just being an ordinary high school nerd.
As a result, he wore fake plastic glasses and a wig hiding his true appearance.
Heir to a multi-billion dollar international corporation, if it was known that such a person was hidden among a group of ordinary teenagers the storm this would stir up wouldn't be small.
It was better this way.
Thanks to growing up in a closed off environment, Nagisa genuinely could not bear to mingle with kids his own age.
It wasn't that he looked down one them, it just felt awkward since they had nothing in common.
Are we even the same species?
This wasn't the only reason he was distant towards others.
Having grown up practicing martial arts, his mindset was different from others and being alone meant having less distractions that kept him from training efficiently.
Why did I practice martial arts in this modern society where law is king?
Well, according to my old man the Kanata family was some ancient big shot back in the day and had a lot of clout due to our strength.
Still, martial arts had less and less effect as time passed and laws and policies made it hard for violence alone to rule a region.
Especially since the Kanata family art was solely about killing making not ending up in a prison cell after fighting difficult.
As a result, our ancestors transitioned from martial arts to business quickly adapting to the situation and making a huge profit.
Thanks to this, the Kanata family was completely reborn and thrived even to this day.
But, the family never gave up on martial arts.
Every heir of the family had to learn and master at least one martial arts by age 25.
I was no exception to this rule.
Ever since he was 5 years old all he'd known was training.
But Nagisa was different, he was only 14 and had already mastered every martial arts he was taught.
Even his grandfather and patriarch of the family felt awed and envious at his comprehension talent and potential.
At the same time, no one could say it was merely talent that led him to this point.
Being beaten every single day in the name of training, Nagisa had no choice but to quickly master the martial arts before he died because of the old guy's 'love'.
Just the memory made him shiver.
Being beaten one-sidedly by someone way stronger than yourself is no fun at all!
There was still some resentment when thinking about it, but now that he had mastered the martial arts he could match the old guy and no longer got beaten.
Of course I still train daily, but the beatings had ended which was cause for celebration.
All that was remaining was to inherit the business and truly take over as the head of the family.
But, this was only for after he graduated university which was a long time off.
I'm just worried the time will pass before I can even find a proper hobby.
He chuckled wryly.
Whatever, I should just get some training in when I get home.
Aside from swing his sword around, Nagisa truly had no special past time activities at all.
In fact, the only people he had in his contacts were his grandfather, his bodyguard and his fiancé whom he barely even chatted with.
Others?
Where would he find the time to meet them?
Wasn't swinging his sword taking up enough time as it is?
But, it's not like I'm a lunatic that escapes reality by training.
An image of the past flashed through his mind, a woman covered in blood and the young Nagisa only able to cry over her cold body.
'The past can never repeat itself! Not while I have the power to make a change!'
This was his trauma, one he would never forget.
Vrrr!*
Waking up from his daze, Nagisa reached into his pocket and took out his vibrating phone.
He read the message on the screen.
Old Bastard: Return early, I'll let you meet someone
Reading the message that came from his grandfather Nagisa sighed.
The text was short and to the point.
But, Nagisa recalled the last time his grandfather introduced him to someone. Turns out, it was all a setting for him to be ambushed by gangsters to fight his way out.
[No way]
Not this again!
Last time I left unscathed because I was already at the point where my strength was way above an ordinary human, but had I been weaker I would have definitely been injured.
Does this guy think I'm the same old punching bag as I was when I was weak?
Hmph!
Just wait!
Woosh!
~Wah! What the-
~All of a sudden?!
~What's with the light!?
Hm?
Startled by the sudden wind in the classroom and the screaming, Nagisa looked over.
Damn! Who brought a flash bang!
The entire room was swallowed in a light and even Nagisa with his good eyesight was unable to see a thing.
On the ground, a circle of magical patterns gradually expanded and with it the light grew covering the entire building A.
From first year classes to the 3rd years, nothing was spared.
Finally, the light vanished but, so did building A.
The news that was released sent shivers through the nation and international countries.
On Wednesday 23 of the year 2018, it was reported to the entire world that a terrorist attack flattened an entire building and killed 320 plus students, 13 teachers and a few of the best security guards in the school.
Parents called the school, faces stained by tears hoping to hear that this was all a prank.
Even the family of the missing teachers visited the school.
But what could they do, not even the school understood what happened. As for a terrorist attack?
Never even happened.
The school only thought the government was testing a new weapon that got out of control, either that or an alien attack.
But, as human beings the school personnel could understand the grief of the families and thus hosted a mass memorial.
The government also saw nothing wrong with this and gave their approval.
Grieving families weren't the only ones who gathered, curious onlookers and alien conspiracy theorists also attended the memorial.
It was even hosted online and in the news.
A middle aged man sat as he listened to the surrounding cries and sobs.
He held no emotion on his face as though this entire event had nothing to d with him.
Beside him sat a handsome boy with a teenage appearance.
He had chiseled features, his face seemed sculpted to perfection and even in baggy clothes his lean and fit outline could not be hidden.
Especially his deep golden pupils that were like two brightly burning stars.
In one word, he was perfect.
In two words he was insanely perfect.
Weirdly, no one noticed this person seated in the crowd as if he didn't exist.
Only the middle aged man.
But the man paid him no mind and only glanced ahead.
His gaze settled on the portrait of the youth with nerdy glasses and bangs covering his eyes.
Sorrow etched itself in his detached and cold eyes.
Finishing the cola with a sip, the boy glanced at the man and chuckled.
'It's weird seeing such an old guy in his feelings'
Sigh
[Don't worry, the kids alright. His path isn't just gonna end like this]
The moment he spoke, the surroundings became silent.
Even the loud sobs were no more as the eyes of everyone who heard the boy's voice became vacant and empty as if they lost their souls.
Seeing this phenomenon, the man shook his head.
Mortals could never handle the weight of this boys words.
The boy also realized what happened and waved his hand.
The majesty in his tone receded like a tide and the people all returned to normal as if nothing happened at all.
That should do it.
He then focused on the man who shook his head at him.
Not taking my words serious?
[He's my descendant so what's there to worry about?]
Don't take his appearance to mean his was a child. No, this was an old monster and the true ancestor of Nagisa. A being that stood at the very pinnacle of the world, no he was the pinnacle!
Leon, god of origin!
He seemed so carefree as if this was the imaginations of a child but it was the genuine truth.
[What about you, will you return to the sanctum? Your father keeps yapping about bringing you back. I'm a bonafide divine being yet he's treating me like a messenger pigeon]
If that guy wasn't his descendant he would have slapped him silly.
But, it didn't really bother him. Leon was unlike pretentious powerful beings and was extremely close with those of his bloodline.
After all, family should stick together.
As long as none of them crossed the line he didn't mind them treating him like a kid.
The place around the two were silent.
The man froze at the question.
Return? Now? How could he?
The darkened skies made his expression seem even darker.
As the dark clouds passed overhead, the shadow cast over him vanished and the middle aged appearance also disappeared.
What remained was that of a youth in his twenties.
[I was tasked to protect the young master but I failed!]
He turned to the boy beside him.
[Come on now! That's not your fault. Even I couldn't have known some shameless bastard would dare open a space fissure when I arrived]
If I knew I would have strengthened the barrier to prevent any accidents.
Yet the man lowered his head in shame.
He had failed, and that too in front of the great ancestor.
[Even if it was not intentional, I failed. I will punish myself by going to purgatory for a hundred years. If I should survive then I will return to the clan]
The boy frowned hearing the word 'purgatory'.
He knew what sort of place it was, of course he knew.
But to make his descendant go there was like sending him to his death.
Purgatory wasn't a place you would send someone to play.
A burial grounds used to exile the most evil beings, especially those that were hard to kill. That place was hell itself.
Not just because of the people, even the environment was bad enough to leave a god begging to be let out after a month.
Only the most unfortunate of people would ever end up there.
Heck, the reason I ended up in purgatory once was simply because I was careless.
I had conquered it sure, but that was because it was me!
And even I would have a hard time choosing to open purgatory for taking someone out after all, if I made a mistake and destroyed it the laws of purgatory may bind with nearby worlds and create a broken dimension.
So even if this guy really decided to go, Leon could do nothing to help.
But, it was his decision so who was he to say no?
With a sigh, he turned and began to walk away while his body gradually blurred.
[Stupid descendant, don't get yourself killed. You still have to explain to that kid]
Well, at most if he died Leon could just extract his soul and reincarnate him into a new vessel.
Though it would take time for him to recover his lost memories.
The man looked in the direction the youth vanished, before lowering the fedora then vanishing himself.
