Chapter 28 - The Truth

Bes burped. One more delivery. The worst one yet. Silhouette. "Sorry, you know? About this whole thing. It sucks for you, but that's just the way things go sometimes." He sat her down. Delivery to a demon.

"Take it back," Zorc demanded. "I don't want that."

Huh? "You don't want your corrupted little demon?" That was strange.

"Take that one to the other Atem."

Now he was really confused. Bes scratched his head. "Isn't this one for you? How come you don't want it?"

Bes got a laugh. An explanation. And he left to Isis immediately.

"Twinning?!" Isis could not believe it as she went straight to talk to Zorc with Horus. "You evil demon, that is not allowed!"

"Actually?" Zorc's voice came from every direction around them. "It is allowed. As long as the twinnings don't end up in the same dimension. Another thing Atem owes me for. Unlike you idiots, I saved his kids."

Saved? "They were being defused."

"They are humans. They don't do that. It's a form of killing."

" . . . right." That was why they made such a fuss about the whole Masika thing. "Someone still survives and moves. It's not killing."

"It's a different kind of person, Téa and Masika are not the same, are they?"

Well? "They are a little different." Oh dear. "You don't think splitting it up would have been a good idea?" Isis looked at Horus. "I thought infusion was the one that made people upset?"

"Be that as it may, twinning is illegal," Horus warned Zorc.

"Then come arrest me. Oh you can't, that's right. I'm a fucking demon!" Zorc laughed.

"I split them," Horus said confidently. "They were separated and more soul was brought in."

"Yes, which is why I casted a spell for any soul part that wasn't their original to eventually drift away from them. They aren't whole."

Oh shoot! "That's probably what all the fussing is about." Isis groaned. "Why did you do that? You wanted a Silhouette, you got a Silhouette!"

"I wanted two of a kind."

Two of a kind? "What do you mean?" Isis asked. "You said that the invisible game was Atem being the whole of Atem. You want to give back both Silhouettes? You confuse me, Demon! You said that you twinned, but Horus was the one who made the split. What did you . . .?" Oh no. "Zorc!"

"I wanted two of a kind. I've got little mission helpers now, that are going to help me with my millennium items."

"You asshole!" Isis cursed him. "Curse you, Zorc, Hikaru was the light and not yours!" Ugh! "You kept the children, and just twinned them, didn't you?!"

"Stop complaining. If they win, they can moosh them back together with no consequences. In the meantime, I've got my new little demons in training. Very proud over here." He laughed.

Isis watched as two kids suddenly appeared. Not babies, nor the sweet age of 6. "Zorc. You cannot change them that fast. Even if they were six, they would not change that fast."

"You are correct," Zorc complimented her. "I control the bodies and mind for now. Their little thoughts and such, are trapped in the Shadow Realm. Do you think Atem will hear it?" He laughed wholeheartedly. "So yes, keep the baby. I have no need for infants."

As soon as they appeared, they disappeared again.

"You promised that if Yuugi and the spirit showed that they were the whole of Atem, you would remove the demon from Silhouette!" Horus yelled as lightning flashed as well as thunder.

"I haven't broken it," Zorc insisted. "My little demon would be returned."

"But you have taken Hikaru, and he was not within that deal!" Horus slammed his scepter into the ground. "You are moving against Osiris. You are moving against Ra!"

"Fine, fine! If he is the whole of Atem, I will remove the demon from both."

Hmph. "Demons." Such foul things. "You still went against the deal!"

"The twinning saved the children that you would have outright killed. Now the dimensions will not mess with each other. Everyone gets a baby, how much happier can you get? You can even send your little stout god to tell them they were twinned. Less worry."

"We will have to have Bes show up so often just because you won't let them have soul," Horus warned him. "You are treading on serious ground. I should go tell Osiris and Ra. I should get Horakhty!"

"The deal is still the deal. Nothing else has changed, except I didn't murder their children."

"The one without the Silhouette, was supposed to feel her out," Isis reminded him. "If he has one, why would he? And if he sees your demons out of the kids, he will really put things together without needing to be the whole of Atem."

"Atem has an uncanny way of picking things up. He will probably do that anyway."

This demonic nonsense! "Then what is the test?"

"Each Atem must say 'I love you' to his Silhouette. And! Each Atem must say 'I love you' to his version of the spirit of Masika." Zorc snickered.

Uh? "Both of them must say that?"

"Atem is more spirit than man," Horus said. "Both requests are unfair."

Well? "A caring father would say I love you easily to his daughter," Isis disagreed. "I mean, a human father would. A spirited father should."

"Yugi is the part that has the emotions," Horus said. "We should go for something more general."

"No. Only I love you will work," Zorc insisted. "The whole of Atem was a simpering mess for Masika. Even a small percentage would have survived in the other half."

"He takes care of Silhouette for a night for the other spirit," Horus said.

"Silhouette is both of their responsibility, watching her proves nothing," Zorc insisted. "He must say I love you to Silhouette and I love you to his counter version of Anzu/Téa. It can even be to the little twin Silhouette, or the original Silhouette. That's my compromise."

Horus looked toward Isis. "Plan on Bes visiting every three days for the rest of the children's lives to restore their souls. Just in case."

"As you wish, Horus." Isis bent her head toward him. This was terrible. Was Zorc more in the wrong for the twinning and stealing Hikaru? Or were they for doing the splitting of humans? "If they are pressed back together as babies, the process won't be so bad."

"One more thing," Zorc said. "Don't use any of your influence on the spirits of Atem or any of the First Tear."

Damn it!

"We will play fair," Horus said. "I'm still telling the others."

The whole environment shook.

"That was me trembling in fear, not laughing," Zorc teased.
