Lucas suppressed the blood that had tried to rise to his dry throat, and tightened his core muscles to keep his unbalanced organs in place. He pretended not to notice the gaze his subtle actions had drawn from Estrella, and looked at the man in front of him.
He looked at Jack Schneider. The man still had his dark hair, but the years had done a number on him. Fat had started to accumulate on his form, hiding the muscles he had built while reaching the peak of the first level of evolution, or rather, the peak of the preparation stage for evolution, the Body Sculpting Stage.
But that still helped him look like a forty years old middle-aged man, instead of showing the sixty years old that was his true age. And had it not been for that, he would not have survived whatever left him so battered before Estrella brought him inside the Dark Arrow either.
