Hannah's hopes were dashed, but only for a split second, as her dim eyes regained their light:

Hannah nodded. She could not be like Lucas, hearing words beyond the barrier around the wreck they were in, and using the fluctuations of the speakers' souls to get the meaning of the words and compile a wholly foreign language. She was really envious when she saw all that could be done after touching the soul on the path of evolution.
