"So what are we going to do about the fact that Dumbledore is trying to sabotage you?" Daphne asked from her post leaning against a workbench littered with different potions and herbal remedies.
"Slip a dagger between his ribs," Rose suggested while running her finger along the edge of the hooked spell blade Thane had crafted and gifted to her for Christmas.
"That's not a funny joke Rose," Luna reprimanded with a frown as she looked over from the boiling cauldron she was tending.
"I don't think she was joking," Thane muttered absently as he was mainly focused on his missing limb, "Though I'm afraid we can't be that overt when dealing with someone of Dumbledore's status."
Rose scoffed and her spellblade vanished with a flick of her hand, "Why is Dumbledore even going after you? Is he that mad you fought the basilisk?"
"That is the million galleon question," Daphne agreed before glancing at Thane, "Any hunchs my love?"
Thane thought for a second before speaking, "Dumbledore is part of the old guard, in his mind, there is a certain way the world should and needs to be. Any deviation from his vision of perfection Dumbledore is incapable of tolerating. I believe he sees me or more precisely what I represent as a threat to his vision."
Rose nodded along, "Alright that makes sense, but threatening to report you to the Ministry is blowing things out of proportion."
"I agree it does seem a bit extreme," Daphne concurred, "I believe this goes beyond you, my love. Perhaps he's trying to debase the Dark Court. A lot of their houses were moved by your more anti-muggle portions of your testimonies."
"Isn't your family part of the dark court?" Luna asked tilting her head to the side in genuine question.
"Historically yes, though my mother is only motivated by power and wealth. She would vote in favor unlock the gates of hell if it was in our House's best interest," Daphne explained with a slightly sour tone.
Thane couldn't help but chuckle, "Yes your mother is a rather cutthroat politician and negotiator. But back to the topic at hand, I couldn't agree more. Dumbledore's ire goes beyond me, but I don't believe it's at the Dark Courts. I am far from a figurehead."
"Maybe not yet," Rose suddenly spoke up with urgency, "But with your momentum, how long before you cement yourself as a real powerhouse? You know what I would do if I saw a potential enemy leader that would become a pain in my ass down the line?"
"Knife in the ribs?" Luna asked.
"Knife in the ribs," Rose confirmed with a nod of her head.
Thane paused, "Rose, I think you're right."
"I-I am?" Rose stuttered as Thane's intense emerald eyes fixated on her making her entire face flush.
Thane nodded slowly at first but with increasing enthusiasm, "Yes, Dumbledore must be confident that eventually, my need for progression will lead to the downfall of his vision. I also believe he may feel some sense of moral obligation to stop me seeing as I'm a student at his school."
'He may even be trying to redeem himself for not preventing the rise of Voldemort,' Thane thought to himself as he pictured the cursed black tome sitting within his extended chest. Thane had confirmed that a piece of Voldemort's soul still resided within though it was severely weakened.
After learning the Dark Lord's true name it had been easy for Thane to find mention of him within the school records. Thane had nearly lost it when he found out the blood supremacist was born to a muggle father.
'Even more reason for Dumbledore to distrust me, both of us were born in orphanages, already aware of our magic, then placed into Slytherin...from his point of view history is raring to repeat itself.'
Thane was broken out of his deep train of thought as Luna walked over holding a bubbling cauldron filled with a milky green liquid.
"I made the potion just like your instructions said, but I don't see how basilisk venom is supposed to heal your arm," Luna asked as she set the cauldron on the table next to Thane who quickly removed the bandages from his missing limb.
"Remember what I said about dosage determining poison vs medicine?" Thane asked and Luna nodded, "Well basilisk venom has the unique ability to directly target the soul. Hopefully, it should act as a carrier for the healing properties of the Dittany and Fluxweed, allowing them to heal the permeate damage to my soul horizon."
"My love do you think this is the wisest choice," Daphne asked with a concerned look on her face.
"I know it may sound dangerous, but the venom is so diluted that I could probably drink this entire cauldron and the only thing I would suffer from would be an irritable stomach," Thane replied appeasing Daphne's fears before cutting a small cut across the very end of his stump and submerging it into the cauldron.
At first, the only thing Thane could feel was warmth, but that was quickly replaced by a numbing cold followed by an incessant itching that grew to almost painful levels.
Steam rose from the cauldron and the green tint of the potion slowly vanished and eventually became a pure white.
A few minutes later Thane felt the itching sensation fade followed by a wave of sensation spreading down his limb.
Pulling his arm out of the cauldron Thane grinned as he stared at his resorted flesh, "A perfect success."
"Are you sure?" Luna gasped as she reached out and grabbed Thane's arm, inspecting it, "What about your pathways? Are they restored and if so, have they reverted back to their initial capacity or maintained your current level?"
Testing Luna's question Thane tried to push mana into his arm only to feel an uncomfortable tightness, "They've reverted, though that is to be expected. I believe I've lost some muscle mass as well."
"Then I should create a magical and physical therapy regiment, so you can recover," Luna replied with a dedicated nod.
"Amazing," Daphne mumbled in shock as she stared at Thane's regrown arm, "This changes everything, a potion of complete restoration imagine the applications."
"Yes I believe that Fae Inc. will take the magical medical industry by storm," Thane agreed, "Though there is the small problem of the main ingredient being basilisk venom. Which currently I only have a finite supply of."
"Can you even use basilisk venom, like legally?" Rose asked.
"The law only makes the breeding of basilisks illegal, there are no restrictions on the use of its poison," Thane clarified.
Rose pursed her lips, "Alright but how are they going to know your poison isn't from some secret breeding farm?"
Thane, "Simple I'm gonna tell them where I really got it from."
Daphne's eyes narrowed as she stared at Thane, "You're going to visit, Rita aren't you?"
"That was the plan, yes, after all, I haven't even thanked her for covering my trial," Thane replied pausing only when he saw Daphne's glare, "Or not if you don't want me to..."
Daphne stared at Thane for a moment longer before exhaling through her nose, "Very well, but be prepared to make it up to me later."
A sly smile spread across Thane's lips but another glare from Daphne silenced any vocal reply and Thane beat a hasty retreat apparating out of the room.
"When is he gonna start looking at us like that?" Rose muttered unable to hide her dissatisfaction.
"Oh don't worry about that my dear," Daphne answered with a smile, "I have everything planned out."
