Dragon Slayers can be categorized into different generations.
The first generation includes those who learned their Dragon Slayer Magic by receiving the Dragon Seed, either willingly given by a dragon or enchanted from the living body of a dragon. They face no risks in gaining their powers and using it, but the chances of dragonization are very high unless they are enchanted to remain human or artificial antibodies are created within them by the dragons who had created their dragon seeds..
The second-generation Dragon Slayers acquire their magic from Lacrimas, which are naturally formed in regions filled with the dead bodies of dragons. However, the chances of these Lacrimas appearing are very low, and the process of implanting them carries significant risks. These Dragon Slayers also have immediate access to Dragon Force. They subsequently seem to be having complete control over their powers while having no chance of dragonization.
The third generation consists of Dragon Slayers who were both taught by dragons and implanted with a Lacrima of their respective element. This combination was supposed to make them stronger, but records indicate they repeatedly lost to other Dragon Slayers who did not have Lacrimas. They, too, have access to Dragon Force, but it is more controllable and weaker in intensity compared to other Dragon Forces. Thy too suffer from the risk of turning into dragons.
The fourth generation consists of automations created using the dead body parts of dragons. They are autonomous and controllable, but inherently weak, relying solely on physical attacks. They also lack any particular element, possibly due to the limited research conducted because of the scarcity of materials.
The fifth and final generation of Dragon Slayers includes those who gained their powers by consuming dead bodies of dragons. They are strong, although most of them are overconfident due to the fact that they defeated dragons at their weakest moments as the reduction in atmospheric mana had reduced the power of Dragons in the world by a lot. Additionally, because they isolated themselves on a single continent, they believed themselves to be stronger than they actually were. Compared to the first three generations, they are weaker. Moreover, their Dragon Force transforms them into violent, zombie-like dragons with no chance of reverting unless a master enchanter, like Irene or later Wendy, creates a method.
Even though Dragon Slayers can be categorized based on how they acquired their powers, Laxus was a monster among monsters within the Dragon Slayer community.
In the original timeline, the only thing that stopped Laxus was the exhaustion he faced after battling Mystogan and Erza, along with losing almost 98% of his magic due to activating Fairy Law. Natsu was only able to win because Laxus had fainted from exhaustion. Later, when comparing their injuries, it was clear that Laxus had only a few superficial wounds, while Natsu and Gajeel were bandaged like mummies.
Even in later fights, Laxus only lost because he chose to or because he was weighed down by other circumstances. In his battle against the demons, the only reason he lost was that he willingly sacrificed himself to absorb the demonic poison permeating the atmosphere, which was slowly killing his comrades.
Right now, Karna could see the full force of that talent. Laxus was slowly learning to adapt to the overwhelming speed Karna displayed.
He used the elementalization method but spread out stray electricity so that Karna would not be able to pinpoint his location. He made sure to strike only when Karna had already moved from his original position and was in the air, where his mobility was limited—unlike Laxus, who could move freely.
"Brace yourself, little brother," Laxus muttered as he prepared to land a punch.
But almost immediately, his punch went straight through Karna, shocking Laxus and making him lose focus for a second.
A second that Karna did not let slip.
BAAM!!
Once again, Laxus was at the receiving end of Karna's punch, which sent him crashing into the ground with full force.
"HOW?!" Laxus screamed in pain but immediately froze as he looked at Karna.
Karna was hovering in the air with black lightning coursing through both of his feet. His eyes were tightly shut, indicating that he had managed to locate Laxus by shutting off his other senses and relying solely on his magic sense.
'Thank god, it works,' Karna thought as he successfully performed Moonwalk without needing to acquire it as a reward from the system. He had heard about the concept in anime and had calculated the amount of power needed to execute it. It might have been impossible in his old world, but in this one, where there were no limits to how much power could grow, he had figured out how much was required.
With the added enhancement of Black Flash, he was able to perform it easily while expending much less stamina.
Laxus, at that moment, was fuming over how he was being beaten down.
'I knew he was strong, but he wasn't supposed to be this strong. If this keeps up, I won't be able to stop him later.'
Laxus made his decision as he got up from the ground.
'If I don't stop him now, he won't be able to protect himself. He'll get hurt again. But if I stop him permanently this time, I can keep him safe.'
Darker thoughts began flowing through Laxus's mind.
But at that moment, Karna sensed something inside him.
'This magic… IVAN!!' Karna was shocked at what he was sensing. He had always assumed Laxus's paranoia was due to the hardships he had faced as a child. But now, he could sense traces of mental magic within him—magic that carried the same signature as Ivan's, which he had sensed years ago.
'Damn it, how the hell did we not see this before?' Karna cursed as he watched Laxus take an entirely different stance.
BOOM!!!
Suddenly, the entire roof of the cathedral was destroyed, and sunlight streamed into Laxus's hands.
'Shit,' Karna cursed.
"Fairy Glitter," Laxus muttered.
