Chapter 140 - Chapter 139 The New King

Karna and Makarov looked at Laxus, who was asleep, with a serious expression.

"It could not have been Ivan, as his magic was revealed because he had used Fairy Glitter," Makarov muttered while trying to figure out the reason.

Karna was unable to say anything as he had not read the 100 Years Quest completely. So he had no idea what would happen. He had heard rumors from an online forum saying that the truth about Laxus's dragon would be revealed, but Karna was killed weeks before that was even released.

Karna tried to speculate on everything he could think of, and only one conclusion came to his mind.

'The Thunder Dragon Lacrima must contain the consciousness or the soul of the Thunder Dragon. But why help me? Or was it trying to help Laxus? And if so, what would be its aim?'

Karna began speculating, but he felt like he would only get the answers if he followed through with the one option he had.

He slowly raised his hand, and suddenly, a pale ghost-like flame ignited on it.

Makarov's eyes widened slightly at that. Plus, he was able to discern a certain type of energy from it.

"Soul Magic?! Karna, how the hell did you gain access to these types of taboo magic, and what are you going to do to Laxus with it?" Makarov shouted in shock and fear.

"Whoa, calm down, old man. This magic was given to me by someone else, and don't worry—Laxus will be fine. If I'm right, this will be perfect for what is happening to him." Karna calmed the worried Makarov and used the energy on Laxus's chest, right where the Lacrima had been embedded in him all those years ago.

This power was not something that Karna had created himself; it had actually been imprinted on him like a rune equation when he last met the Sky Dragon, Grandine, along with the other Dragon Kings.

Seeing that it would be better to gain more allies in the future battle against Acnologia, and that better communication between them was necessary, Grandine had imprinted this dragon magic—a mixture of Milky Way, the spell used to communicate with the souls of dead dragons by using their corpses, combined with a few other soul-related dragon magics—so that Karna could use it to communicate with dragons as long as he was in the vicinity of Dragon Slayers.

But it also helped in many other ways due to the numerous magical equations embedded by Grandine. All those years inside Wendy were filled with happiness as she was able to see her daughter grow up well. But even then, having nothing to do had left her so bored that she felt like she would wither away unless she did something productive.

So she put herself into overdrive, perfecting already existing techniques for Wendy's future. This, in turn, led her to create a more complicated soul spell, which she then imprinted onto Karna.

All he needed to do was pass magic through the spell and then make contact with a Dragon Slayer.

Karna remembered Grandine telling him that all he needed to do was touch a Dragon Slayer with the soul of a dragon within them, and then he would be able to communicate with them. There were also some additional features, but for now, he focused on what Grandine had said— 'any Dragon Slayer with a dragon soul in them.' This prompted him to test the theory on Laxus, as chances were that the one who had interfered with him during the fight was the Thunder Dragon, whose soul was miraculously within the Lacrima inside Laxus.

"Milky Way: Soul Speak Release!!" Karna muttered the keywords, and everything went dark again. Suddenly, he found himself face to face with a familiar image—a dragon sitting on top of a mountain. Except this time, the dragon was made of deep yellow scales filled with energy, and the mountain glowed with an intense electrical charge that seemed ready to burst out. Even the clear skies he had last seen in the soul realm were now replaced by dark skies filled with countless storm and lightning clouds.

"To think that at such a young age, you have become smart enough to dabble with soul magic while also being strong enough to be considered a powerhouse in the current world. Even though, by the standards of the truly strong, you are still a fledgling. With great potential, yes—greater than any I have ever seen—but still a fledgling." The Thunder Dragon greeted him with a grin that seemed to be filled with both pride and power.

But then, its expression shifted into a slight frown.

"Or maybe not. I can feel the aura of Grandine from that spell right now—it must have been her who dabbled in soul magic and gave it to you." The dragon almost seemed annoyed, but Karna realized that the annoyance came from parts of its earlier speech being proven wrong. However, the dragon continued.

"Even then, my earlier statement remains correct—your potential is the greatest I have seen."

For a moment, Karna froze.

'A tsundere dragon?! Did Laxus get his personality from this dragon's influence?'

That thought was about to spiral into many things Karna did not want to consider, so he quickly shook it from his head and decided to face the dragon seriously.

"You… You are not an ordinary Thunder Dragon, are you?" Karna asked, sensing the aura radiating from the dragon. It had surpassed all the dragons he had met so far, except Igneel—though he could say that it came close.

"You must be a king like the others. Other than Igneel, no one else has come close to the amount of power you have."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

The dragon suddenly burst into loud laughter, nearly rupturing Karna's eardrums.

"And seeing that magic from Grandine, you must have met them after all these years of their disappearance. So, they managed to make their plans a success, huh?" the dragon shouted with obvious glee.

"Wait, you know about that?!" Karna asked, a bit shocked, as he had thought that most other dragons had been excluded from that knowledge since it was dangerous to reveal.

"Child, who do you think held back the other dragons who planned to stop us—the ones in harmony with humans?" the dragon said as he suddenly stood up, spreading his wings wide to reveal scars across his body—evidence of a lifetime of battles. The scars did not make him look weak in the slightest. Instead, they made him appear all the more dangerous and majestic.

"I AM RAIJIN, THE THUNDER DRAGON KING! ALLY TO THE FIRE DRAGON KING IGNEEL! PROTECTOR OF HUMANS AND DRAGONS WHO SEEK ASYLUM WITH ME! AND I AM THE DRAGON WHO DIED ENSURING MY ALLIES ESCAPED FROM THE DRAGON OF APOCALYPSE!!" the dragon declared in all his majesty.
