Chapter 5 - Cursed Rumors

"You want us to go where?" Renfo is yelling his lungs out.

Jordan explained everything that transpired to him, with the occasional nod from Domm, who witnessed a few of the events. The only bad side was that the fallen hearthstone was known as an abandoned wasteland, and only those with a personal death wish ventured there.

"No, we are not about to walk to our deaths because of a Story That isn't even 100 percent true." Renfo continued.

The Meridian, traveling with us, was nowhere to be found. So that is why Jordan took this opportunity to explain things. Knowing the stubbornness of Renfo, Jordan would be here for hours.

"Look, guys, we have to figure this out, because that meridian can return," Domm said.

"Exactly," Jordan stated, " I know you don't want to believe me, Renfo. You have a personal history. You wandered those very lands for years, in search of a family lost in an unknown chaos."

Renfo's eyes began to wince at the past revelation. But he felt the urgency and truth in Jordan's words, something, or as Jordan put it, 'someone' was there and needed to be found. The conversation was interrupted by a shimmer of dazzled lights, the warping of someone into the house.

The return of the meridian caused the trio to stammer as it was a sudden reappearance, where nobody had seen it happen in the slightest. Jordan did notice a slight wisp phase indicating an end trail left from behind the Meridian; he knew this was something of a teleportation after-effect, but he did not know from which spell, as it seemed unnatural.

"I hope you are all ready to venture off," She spoke in a tone of superiority, looking amongst the three. "As there is much ground to be covered. And many challenges to overcome."

Domm acknowledged the meridian, throwing a full fist in the air, pumping with enthusiasm, "Right, and much to do along the way."Winking at the other, the other 2 Domm, although he they can be very aloof, can also feign a sense of

The party set off with upbeat enthusiasm, they had to be as they were heading first for the Dread Land, a place not often traversed, as only those who wanted a quick and simple death went there. Renfo knew this too well, as he would occasionally go there to train himself. "That's all, said if we must travel to this loc, ation we have to make haste, "said Renfo chi, med in pointing in the direction they had to travel.T Travel, "I know of a shortcut to reach the lands at a swifter rate."

As Renfo crept silently through the underbrush, the atmosphere grew heavier, almost charged with an unseen energy. He could feel the change in the air, a warning of the danger ahead. He needed to find the beast quickly — the knowledge of its presence gnawed at him like a dark shadow. Just as he thought he had reached the gorge's edge, he froze.

Before him, the world opened up to reveal a massive stone outcropping framed by the jagged cliffs of the gorge. And there, coiled upon the rock, was the Basilisk dragon, its scales shimmering with an iridescent sheen that caught the light in a dance of brilliant colors. Towering above him, the creature was easily three times his height, each muscle taut and sleek, radiating power and ferocity. Its eyes were slitted and glowed like molten gold, fixated on Renfo with an intensity that sent chills down his spine.

"By the gods…" Renfo whispered, backing away slowly, yet every instinct screamed to stay rooted, to observe, to understand this magnificent beast. The creature exhaled a low growl, and Renfo could feel the vibration settle deep in his chest.

Meanwhile, back at the path, Jordan and Domm sensed Renfo's faltering energy as it trickled across their bond. "Something's off," Jordan said, concern knitting his brow. "We need to move."

"Right behind you!" Domm replied, his voice a mix of bravado and trepidation. They darted towards the gorge, hearts racing, knowing that whatever awaited them could shift the fate of their entire mission.

Suddenly, Renfo's stealth wore thin. The Basilisk had caught his scent. It unfurled with a primal grace, leaping from the cliff edge to the ground below with a crash that sent debris flying in all directions. The ground vibrated as the creature landed, and it let out a bone-rattling roar that echoed like thunder.

Just as Jordan and Domm reached the rim of the gorge, they were greeted by the sight of Renfo standing stock-still before the colossal beast. "Get back!" he yelled, determination woven into his voice, though he knew it was too late. The Basilisk turned its head, eyeing the two new intruders with the calculated gaze of a predator.

"Draw your weapons!" Jordan commanded, readying his stance as adrenaline flooded his veins. Domm followed suit, his sword shining under the sun. The air hummed with tension, the faint smell of sulfur hinted at the creature's fiery breath, and the ground trembled as it prepared to charge.

"Wait! There's something strange," Renfo urged, his instincts screaming—this was not just a mindless beast but something more ancient, more intelligent.

In an instant, a deafening roar erupted from the Basilisk as it launched itself at them, claws outstretched and teeth bared, eyes glimmering with predatory hunger. The world slowed as they all readied themselves; Jordan clenched his sword tightly, Domm braced for impact, and Renfo's heart raced as he assessed the creature's movement, knowing one ill-timed decision could lead to disaster.

Then, the unexpected happened. A flicker of movement darted across the corner of Renfo's vision, and from the edge of the gorge, a figure emerged, a cloaked shadow that raised a hand. "Stop!" The voice rang out, commanding even over the roar of the Basilisk.

In that split second, the dragon hesitated, and they all held their breath, caught in a moment of uncertainty. Who was this newcomer, and why did it have the audacity to confront the Basilisk?

The familiar weight of danger returned, heavy and palpable, as the group stood at the precipice between safety and a fight for their lives.

Then the ground shook again, and the Basilisk's golden eyes locked onto the newcomer, its stance shifting as it prepared for battle anew. But the cloaked figure stepped forward, a glint of authority in its eyes, and with a voice that drifted like smoke, they said, "You're all in grave danger. Stand back!"

And with that, the scene shifted, the fate of the encounter hanging in delicate balance, the next move uncertain and fraught with peril.
