Chapter 28 - 027:Escalating War

Word from Sunagakure had arrived in Kumogakure under the cover of night, a whispered accord sealed by the will of the Wind Daimyō. The plan was that Konoha would be attacked on two fronts. With Iwagakure and Kirigakure's forces included, Konoha would face the full force of four ninja villages. As the Raikage quickly gathered his forces, Konoha had little time to react.

In response, Minato Namikaze was dispatched to support Jiraiya against the encroaching Kumo forces, while his genin team trailed behind, assigned to lower risk operations.

"This is boring," whispered Obito to Rin and the masked bastard.

"Obito, shut up," counter whispered Rin.

"They can all hear you," Kakashi said nonchalantly.

Rin winced in embarrassment, ready to apologize, while Obito.exe suffered a full system crash, his mouth opening and closing uselessly.

A sharp scritch of ink against paper cut through their moment.

The medic in charge had paused in his work. Slowly, he glanced up, eyes dull, bloodshot, and unreadable. He set down his brush, lifted his glasses, and exhaled, as if steadying himself.

Then, without preamble, he spoke:

"Tsubasa Kagami, eleven. Ayame Uzuki, twelve. Riku Taketori, fourteen. Souta Inuzuka, fifteen. Ginji, three. Kenshiro Fuma, twenty. Rei Uchiha, twenty five. Hikaru Senju, twenty seven."

He continued, listing name after name, each one like the tolling of a funeral bell.

Obito frowned in complete confusion. Rin's brows knitted as she tried to understand. Kakashi, however, had already pieced it together; his posture straightened, his fists subtly clenching. Around them, other genin fell silent, their expressions shifting from curiosity to unease.

"These are ninjas who died on the battlefield," the medic said, his voice hollow yet razor sharp. "Some of them might have survived, if, and only if, the supplies they needed had arrived just a little sooner."

Silence.

The medic let the weight of his words settle before he continued.

"This is war, ladies and gentlemen. Every mistake you make can, and will cost lives."

His gaze swept across the room like thrown daggers, locking onto every new genin present.

"So when a superior gives you an order," he said, voice dropping into something dangerously low, "you obey."

The room stiffened.

"Am I clear?"

"SIR, YES SIR!" the young shinobi shouted, voices hurried and uneven.

The medic exhaled through his nose. He picked up his brush again, already returning to his work.

"Dismissed."

Elsewhere, the Mist churned with blood and mist drenched steel.

The battlefield was eerily silent.

The air reeked of iron and scorched flesh. The moon, half obscured by mist, cast ghostly light over the lifeless bodies strewn across the water-drenched terrain. Their final expressions were frozen in sheer horror mouths open in silent screams, eyes bulging with the last glimpse of something they could not comprehend. It was not just death that had claimed them.

It was something far worse.

A lone Kiri jonin stood amidst the carnage, his breath sharp and ragged. His heart pounded so violently that it nearly drowned out the deafening silence. His team, elite and handpicked for this mission, was now gone. Not fallen in battle, not cut down by the clash of blades, but erased. He gripped his kunai with shaking fingers, the metal slick with sweat. Every instinct screamed at him to run, but his legs refused to obey.

Then, he heard it.

The slow, deliberate footsteps that crushed the brittle remains of the fallen underfoot. A sound neither rushed nor hesitant. A sound of absolute control.

The crimson mist parted, and he emerged.

Fugaku Uchiha, Konoha's leader, Uchiha's devil.

His presence did not command attention; it demanded submission. His uniform was untouched, as if the battle had never reached him. His stance was poised, effortless, exuding a confidence that came not from arrogance, but from certainty. And then, there were his eyes.

The three tomoe Sharingan. Those WICKED EYES.

Twin eyes of blood-red malevolence met the jonin's gaze, and the world unraveled.

The ground beneath him liquefied into a sea of writhing hands, clawing at his ankles, dragging him down. The screams of his fallen comrades howled in his ears, pleading, accusing, cursing.

"HEEEELP ME, SATOSHIII!" x7

"WHY DID YOU BETRAY US?" x5

"CURSEEE YOUU SATOSHI!!!"x3

"I don't want to die... please" x1

He turned, but every direction led to the same sight: himself, kneeling amidst their corpses, his hands soaked in their blood. The weight of their deaths crushed his chest, suffocating him. He screamed, but no sound came out.

In the real world, the Kiri jonin collapsed to his knees, his kunai clattering uselessly to the dirt. His pupils were dilated, his body trembling as cold sweat poured down his face. He gasped like a drowning man, eyes darting wildly, but no escape existed. He could still hear them. He could still feel them.

And above it all, Fugaku watched.

Silent. Still. Unmoved.

Contemplating if this jonin's life had any value.

There was no need for words, no need for theatrics. His enemy was already broken. With measured precision, he turned away, the battle long since decided.

In the distance, another squad approached, unaware of the nightmare awaiting them.

Wicked Eye Fugaku was waiting.

And now, Fugaku Uchiha stood among the ruins of another failed Kirigakure assault, his Sharingan spinning in silent condemnation. The orders from the Hokage's council had been clear: continue the campaign, despite the dwindling resources. Konoha's focus had shifted, and Fugaku was left with a fraction of the reinforcements he needed. It was a bitter reality, one he knew too well. The war, they said, demanded sacrifice.

Yet, it always seemed to demand his clan's sacrifice.

But he had to remain strong. For this was war, and poor morale would be more crushing than their dwindling resources.

"Clean the battlefield," he ordered, and the ninjas present, those who now looked at their leader with fanatic eyes, did so.

A/N: I had to investigate because I realized that my knowledge of Naruto started to get deeply rooted in the ff that I have read before. Btw, I am reading Itachi shinden and it is really good.

Also, Reading it made me realize how terryfing Fugaku had to be. Just imagine how the man would have been, understaffed, almost no resources, and even then he was nicknamed wicked eye fugaku. A strong man in his own right. I wanted to add something about senbonchan but I thought that was already too much. So maybe for the next one i guess

Btw, if someone is still reading this stuff, please help me choose between this two songs

Battle against a true hero (undertale)

Still here (league of legends)

Also, changed the image. I tried to make using ai because i have no money. Tell me if you like it
