It was quite a boring day, I woke up, got ready, had breakfast and left for the academy with Shikamaru. There were no black crashes today.
I reached the academy, greeted Sasuke and Naruto, had some chips and talk with Choji.
There was nothing related to physical training today, it was all theoretical, maths, history and language.
I got through the academy day and it was now that things were gonna get interesting.
Itachi was standing near the gate, smiling at us.
Me, Sasuke and a sleepy Shikamaru walked over to Itachi.
"Good Morning Sasuke, Good Morning Kai-Kun and Shikamaru-kun." Itachi greeted, nodding his head.
"Good Morning, Itachi-san." I said, my words ofcourse having respect.
The last thing I want to be considered by the Uchiha is a disrespectful arrogant brat, because I am trying to complete a quest here.
"Good Morning, Mr Itachi." Shikamaru said, still very sleepy, having dosed off for the entire maths class.

A Normal Walk… or So I Thought
As we walked alongside Itachi, I kept thinking about the unusual silence in my head.
Ever since I woke up in this world, my senses had been sharp, but today, something felt different. Almost like my awareness was stretching beyond what it should be.
I shook the thought away. Focus.
Shikamaru yawned beside me, rubbing his eyes. "Did we have to walk all the way here? A nap sounds way better right now."
"You're always napping," I muttered.
"Yeah," he sighed, as if that proved his point.
Sasuke shot him a look. "Don't be lazy. This is important."
I wasn't sure if he meant the visit itself or the fact that his older brother was walking with us. Probably both.
Itachi glanced at us, his expression calm as always. "It isn't every day our families get together like this."
That was true. The Uchiha and the Nara clans weren't exactly distant, but they didn't interact much beyond necessity. This was a rare occasion.
And rare usually meant something was going on.
---
Arriving at the Uchiha Compound
We stepped through the entrance of the Uchiha district. The streets were quieter than usual, the air thick with something unspoken. Even Shikamaru seemed to notice, his half-lidded gaze sharpening slightly.
Itachi led us to his home, and as we stepped inside, we were greeted by Mikoto's warm smile.
"Welcome," she said kindly, before her gaze settled on me and Shikamaru. "I'm glad you could come."
Shikamaru gave a small, polite nod. "Thank you for having us, Mikoto-san."
Sasuke gave a tiny huff of approval at Shikamaru's formality. Guess he does know how to be polite when he wants to be.
Before anything else could be said, another presence entered the room.
Fugaku Uchiha.
His gaze briefly swept over us before settling on Shikamaru. "Shikamaru Nara. It's good to see the heir of the Nara Clan here."
Shikamaru straightened a little—not out of intimidation, but respect. "Thank you, Fugaku-san."
Fugaku then turned to me. "And you must be Kai. The friend Sasuke keeps mentioning."
I blinked.
I quickly nodded. "It's nice to meet you, Fugaku-san."
His expression didn't shift much, but he gave a small nod before moving past us. There was no hostility, no unnecessary coldness—just a calm, measured presence.
Mikoto clapped her hands together, breaking the moment. "Come, dinner is ready."
---
Dinner was peaceful—for the most part. Mikoto and Yoshino carried the conversation, while Shikaku and Fugaku exchanged occasional words, though their tones were unreadable.
Shikamaru, still drowsy, was barely holding himself upright. Sasuke was trying not to look too eager whenever his father spoke.
And me?
I was fine. At least, I thought I was.
Then, it happened.
A sharp ringing sound filled my ears. I winced, gripping the edge of the table.
Everything around me blurred for a moment—then shifted.
Suddenly, voices were coming in clearer than they should have. But not the ones at the table.
No.
The adults' conversation in the next room.
---
"Things are getting worse," came Shikaku's voice, steady yet heavy. "The tension isn't fading."
"I know," Fugaku answered. "Which is why this meeting was necessary. We need to show some level of unity."
Mikoto's voice was softer but firm. "If we do nothing, the divide will only deepen."
"This isn't something that can be solved with a single dinner," Yoshino pointed out. "But if we can build a bridge—"
What… is this?
I wasn't just hearing their words. It was like I could feel the weight behind them, as if the emotions were reaching me too.
But something changed.
As soon as the conversation turned toward more serious matters, a strange pressure formed in my head—like an invisible barrier was pushing me out.
My vision blurred for a second, and just like that, the voices became muffled, distant.
They noticed.
I took a slow breath, forcing myself to act normal.
But my mind was racing.
Whatever this ability was, it had rules. And someone—Fugaku? Shikaku?—had sensed it.
I needed to be careful.
---
After eating, Itachi led us outside while the adults continued talking. Shikamaru immediately slumped onto the porch, looking ready to sleep.
Sasuke folded his arms. "Why do we have to go outside?"
Itachi smiled. "Fresh air is good after a meal."
I, on the other hand, was still trying to process what had happened.
Then—
"Yo!"
A sudden voice rang out, and before I could react, a figure landed smoothly in front of us.
Shisui Uchiha.
"Shisui," Itachi greeted, as calm as ever.
Shisui grinned and stretched. "Hope I'm not interrupting."
His gaze flickered toward me for the briefest moment. Just enough for me to understand.
He knew.
Shisui then turned his attention to Shikamaru, his grin widening. "And you must be Shikamaru Nara, right? Heard a lot about you."
Shikamaru lazily raised a hand. "Yeah. And you're Shisui Uchiha. Heard a lot about you too."
Shisui chuckled. "All good things, I hope?"
Shikamaru yawned. "Mostly that you're fast."
Shisui smirked, then glanced at me. "Speaking of fast…"
His body tensed slightly—just for a fraction of a second.
Then he vanished.
A sharp gust of wind kicked up around us, and I barely caught the flicker of movement before he reappeared a few feet away, hands on his hips.
"How about a little game?" he said casually. "If you can touch me, you win."
I exhaled slowly.
I knew what this was.
He's testing me.
I nodded, stepping forward. "Alright."
Sasuke leaned in slightly, interested. Shikamaru sat up just enough to watch.
Shisui grinned. "Great. Let's see what you've got."
New Mission!
Challenge The Fastest Man Alive! (Ay would disagree!)
Rewards : 250 Exp, +200 Likeness With Shisui, Minor Speed Boost and Revelation of the secret ability!
---
I moved first.
I pushed forward with all the speed I could manage, aiming straight for him. But before I could get close—
He was gone.
A blur of motion to my left—then behind me. I twisted, reaching out—
Gone again.
No wasted movement. No unnecessary effort.
And the worst part?
He was holding back.
This wasn't anywhere close to his real speed.
I clenched my fists, pushing myself harder. I wasn't slow, but compared to him…
I might as well have been standing still.
Shisui chuckled, appearing beside Itachi. "Not bad. But you're thinking too much."
I exhaled sharply, trying to suppress my frustration.
Shisui met my gaze and smirked.
He knew I realized it.
I wasn't in his league. Not even close.
And yet—he still wasn't showing his real speed.
This was just a lesson.
And I had a long way to go.
---
Eight Tries Later
I was sweating, breathing heavily. Shisui, meanwhile, looked like he could do this all night without breaking a sweat.
"Man," I muttered, "you're really annoying."
Shisui laughed. "You're the one who accepted the challenge!"
I clenched my fists. I needed to do something different.
Then I remembered—
The voices.
If I could hear a conversation happening far away, maybe I could extend that awareness further.
Come on… listen.
I closed my eyes. Shut out everything else. The chirping of crickets, the rustling of leaves…
There.
A faint shift. The tiniest sound.
Behind me.
I moved before he fully appeared. My hand shot out—
And caught his wrist.
For a second, there was silence.
Then—
Shisui laughed.
Quest Complete!
Shisui's Challenge – Success!
+250 EXP
+200 Likeness with Shisui
I barely registered the notification.
Because I knew the truth.
I hadn't really caught him.
Shisui had let me.
He could've flickered away. Could've vanished before I even reacted.
But he didn't.
Instead, he grinned, ruffling my hair. "Nice job, kid."
Secret Ability Revealed!
Innate Sensory Abilities!
Since this ability has not given by the system and has awakened through the host's body, the system will not be able to help the host upgrade it.
Description: Heightens the user's senses, and makes them more sensitive to sound, touch and chakra. Aswell as improving their eyesight. It allows them to hear the smallest of sounds, feel the slightest moment of air on their, sense chakra easier than others and allows them to see things far away clearly.
"Well..." Shisui murmured and then looked at Itachi, and then at Sasuke and Shikamaru, "Hey, how about you two go and get us some snacks, the shop near the corner is still open. Here, some money." He said.
Sasuke's mood brightened up when hearing about snacks and Shikamaru's mood fell upon hearing that he had to get them and was reluctant, but Sasuke ended up dragging him to the shop.
"Well," Itachi walked closer and said, "Kai, you wonder who blocked you from hearing the conversations of the adults? It was me, you used sensory abilities to height your senses."
"What?" I raised my eyebrows, feigning to be puzzled.
"It's a ability which ninjas use to heighten their senses and sense chakra signals. It's a pretty advanced technique and it's only taught to chunins with excellent chakra control and all jonin and special jonins." Itachi replied. "Even higher level Shinobi like us can sense it and block the sensory abilities from hearing sound and sensing our chakra. I sensed you using it, but considering how chaotic it was, you were doing it unintentionally." He stood right infront of me with Shisui.
"It's nearly impossible for anyone below chunin level to be able to use this technique, it would blow up their chakra paths and body. Unless, of course-" Shisui folded his arms and said but was interrupted by Itachi.
"Someone naturally awakens it. This happens when the body of a person has good and healthy chakra vessels from birth and their vessels are developed specially to accommodate as much chakra as possible. Shisui here is someone like you. He too naturally awakened his sensory abilities, someone else remarkable to have awakened this is Tsunade Senju, the grand-daughter of Lord First, and Senju Tobirama. These two are the most prominent shinobis who utilised this to their fullest, Senju Tsunade for her monstrous strength and Tobirama for his excellent chakra control and otherworldly sensory abilities."
Then Itachi's eyes darkened, "Tell me, what did you hear when you used your sensory abilities?".
The air turned cold and I gulped, Shisui no longer had his happy face, but was now serious.
"I-i heard about a divide and that things are getting worse between the clans, and that, that a bridge needs to be built to calm down things.... Nothing else.." I said, and it was the truth, that was all I had heard, Itachi stopped me from hearing anything else.
"Well..." Itachi's face lightened a little and he sighed in relief and bent down and looked at me, "What you heard, don't ever tell it to anybody. I am pretty sure the adults sensed it, Mrs. Yoshino and Mr. Shikaku will talk to you tomorrow. I was the one who called Shisui hear to test you, to fully confirm that you had awakened sensory skills and didn't just do that on a fluke. So, what happened here, stays here, alright?"
I nodded slowly, clearly still scared, "Oo-ok..."
Shisui smiled and then lifted me by the collar of my shirt, "It's the first time I've seen in my lifetime other than Lady Tsunade, someone like me who also awakened Sensory Abilities naturally. But be vigilant, these abilities are rare and bad people are always after things they don't have. Mrs. Yoshino and Unc Shikaku will tell you what to do but don't tell to it, they will make it public when it has to be done. But for now, we two have alot of training to do!" With that, he used Shunshin.
And everything zoomed as we moved at speeds faster than anything I could imagine (upscaling the characters, yes.) and arrived at the training ground which I saw in the anime where Shisui and Itachi used to train.
And then motion sickness got over me and I puked.
